Boris is actually on 8th place since the 23:00 update of yesterday. You must have looked at yesterdays 15:00 state of the race. At least that's suggested by the remaining distances.

Thanks for for a great show Florian these boats are just amazing the way they can handle the rough seas. Having been in 45 kt conditions with 5 meter waves once myself I csn say I did not enjoy it one bit. I even saved the last of my coffee today for the cheers at the start of your show. Great coverage of a great race! So, great that Yohanne Richome is doing so very well on a great boat ... BUT, his sponsor dumped Sebastian Simone after VG 2020 and I am thrilled also that Sebastian is having a great VG2024!! In terms of performance, Justine Mettraux is Queen of the Seas! Regarding Pip's predicament, why doesn't she head for Hobart instead of Melbourne? It's closer and she'd arrive quicker even if it's only a few days. For some reason, I never noticed the below-deck furlers on Yoann's yacht. What's the reason, aerodynamics?

Hi Florian - good show but would appreciate your analysis to include more detail on how you see the predicted weather patterns affecting the front 2 groups as they make the run toward Cape Horn. It looks as though the first 3 may stay at the front of current low pressure while the next 8 or 9 boats up to Justine Mettraux may hang on to the back. Will a higher pressure with lower winds then hit the front 3 and allow the following group to catch up or will one intrude between the 2 groups and cause a bigger split? I think maybe the former but be interesting to hear your more experienced view. Cheers

I don’t know Florian’s take on it but in all actuality the weather predictions look even more hazardous than usual, I suspect meteorological situation to be quite abnormal, which leads to deceptive reports as they’re based on compiled statistical datasets of the past

I'd like to now why Pip Hare and her team decided to head to Melbourne rather than Hobart. It looks further, requires more beating north and runs the risk of being trapped on a lee shore in a vessel not sailing well to windward. The west coast of Tasmania and King Island are wild and remote.

I think that you hadn't properly updated your tracker for the analysis. For instance the rankings for Paul and Boris are for December 18 14:00 UTC. Also the weather forecast timestamp indicates December 18.

It changes day to day, they look at the satellite images and adapt it to keep the boats away from the ice

If the ice was properly anchored the line would be static. This technique was tried once but sufficient chain could not be had. 🤣

I would suggest to clearly mark video snippets taken from previous VG editions (like passing of Cap Horn) - it's confusing otherwise.

The VG has progressed since the earlier attempt. Sodebo Ultim probably won't meet the leading three IMOCA's is my personal uneducated guess. The other IMOCAs in the fleet, yes, at some point. That's assuming nothing bad happens but we all know how vulnerable these foiling trimarans are, which is like running through an obstacle course. If the JV was being attempted by one of the three fastest Ultims (SVR, Banque Populaire, Gitana) then I'd say there would be a chance to converge with the leading yachts. The problem is I cannot foresee an extremely lucky voyage without incident these days. In the Arkea Ultim Challenge which was raced last January, _every_ team had to stop for repairs! That race permitted stops knowing the foiling trimaran vulnerabilities whereas the VG doesn't allow it.
