Good to see you Conrad and best wishes for the new year! I have a question that is a little different from what others may have asked. I've been a huge fan of America's Cup ETNZ for many years. I realize it's two very different kinds of sailing competitions, but wonder if you strive for greater personal achievement knowing your country's historic triumphs in the sport of sailing? Do you draw inspiration from Burling/Tuke and Team NZ or aspire to that level of accomplishment in offshore sailing competition?

If I counted correctly, 2 boats have been rolled over. How do they get the water out of the boat and why doesn’t seem to be no damage to all the electronics? Happy New Year to all Seawolves 🎉. Joerg

Q&A, in the second group i have noticed that Herman has fallen quite some places back since they have come into upsetting conditions. What are the feeding elements of the boats that determine how a boat performs in the different conditions?

🇨🇦 Conrad, really interesting to hear more about you. Good luck. Florian! _Please_ stop twirling your mouse when you’re on the progress map. I can’t read the boat stats in the pop-up window and especially in a group the pop-up jumps from boat to boat and I can’t tell who you’re referring to.

I have a question for Conrad. I hear of the skippers changing sails. I know in light airs a large spinnaker type sail can be flown. Otherwise, all of the head sails are on roller reefing. So, I am confused.

Q&A Does the skippers have any system to stop the boat if they fall into the water? I mean remote managing the autopilot.
@leonardbertaux68972 күн бұрын
Great question, yeah they all have an emergency stop trigger on their life vests, goes off just like their pfd’s automatically when under about 50 cm of hydrostatic head.

Hi Florian, really enjoying your coverage of the Vendee Globe. It seemed to me, watching the boats as they head up the Atlantic, that they don't seem to point as high as I expected. Looking at reported wind versus sailing angle, that the leaders are sailing about 55 degrees TWA. Looking at the IMOCA 60 polars I can find on Google, I see max VMG in the range 45-50 degrees. Could you talk a little about how the latest foiling and daggerboard IMOCAs go to weather? Might we see extra Jean LeCam performance relative to the foilers once he hits the Atlantic?

Question for Conrad: you explained that you realized you have the diverse skills to be a sponsored solo racer, but could you also share your core motivation that sustains you through the extreme challenges of the Vendee Globe? And how has your motivation evolved as you've gained experience offshore alone?

4'15" "... but basically at the moment I have wind from 267° so essentially from the EAST..." Strange, I thought 270° was due WEST... Anyway, thanks again for your daily report, it's MOST interesting. Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one to really enjoy drone images taken during the race 🤩🤩🤩

For the next question episode: What is the function of the engine? You’ve mentioned the engine a couple of times and I have always wondered.

only to charge electrics. So its basically a generator, with the prop sealed off.

I wonder how many whales are killed or injured by fast sailing boats loaded up with environmentalist propaganda (on high tech plastic boats with higher tech plastic sails, plastic foils, sheets, halyards.....
@SeawolvesTV2 күн бұрын
I think you need to take a better look at how large the ocean is. The odds of hitting a Whale is astronomically low
@leonardbertaux68972 күн бұрын
Not really if you’re in the wrong place. I recall the winner of the 2013 Marblehead to Halifax hit a whale in the middle of the night, came to full stop. Hauled out at RNSYS and found flesh on the leading edge of the keel. Could easily have killed whatever they hit.

@@leonardbertaux6897maybe an idea to have an acoustic signal underwater pointed to the front of the boat to warn/wake wales up?

@@michiel1362many IMOCA boats are already outfitted with such pingers. They are hard to keep working, and not very effective ie dolphins still swim around the boat when it’s on
