I already had Orca on my radar but your review really unpacks a lot of hidden value. Thank you Forian!

The ease of installation and availability to be seen on multiple devises is the key in actual use 👍

Hi! Can you share more details about the velcro mount? I don't see any velcro in your boat
@408murph Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the information about the Orca Pilot. The technology looks great and is a natural transition from the computer sailing apps to the chart plotter. Usually I use OpenCPN or Navionics to plan a route and then either Predict Wind or Windy to keep track of the weather on my home computer. Once sailing, the boats I charter typically have Raymarine or B&G, I find I have to reenter the route. Having everything integrated so that it leverages current devices like a phone is fantastic! Look forward to hearing more about the sailing specific functions and wondering if it has features similar to B&G Sail Steer. Also the price point is a lot better so might pull in sailors thinking of going with a home made Raspberry Pi network to save cost. What about the base maps? Do you have to buy the vector charts for each region you sail in? Again cool tech and thanks for sharing.

Would it be possible to bring your own Orca Core for a charter sail holiday, on a boat that has a NMEA2000 backbone and hook it (temporarily) up for that holiday? Is the plug and play that easy?
@SeawolvesTV Жыл бұрын
@@willmv4139 interesting idea, but actually yes you could totally do that. As long as you have at least 1 free plug somewhere on the nmea2000 backbone and you had some place to temporarily stick the device, it should work no problem :). You would need to update your polar info in settings to reflect the rental though.

All maps are included and updated contiously via internet connection (no sd card nonsense). First year is included in the purchase price. After its a subscription (11,- month).
@robthompson7174 Жыл бұрын
Yes but the maps seem to be only Europe and New Zealand, so not exactly a cruising solution. Unless you can leverage a Navionics or similar chart source by importing them? I don't see any information on that

Thanks for the nice introduction to the Orca system. As I about to install a new plotter this seems to be a good option. Coming from using a B&G Zeus2 I am especially fond of the laylines that are displayed. Another important aspect for me is that AIS targets can be set to display COG arrows with a lengths of e.g. 10min. That is very helpful when crossing shipping lanes. Do you know whether these items can be displayed by the Orca system as well?
@SeawolvesTV Жыл бұрын
Yes you can set custom ais arrow lengths.

Thanks for that review. We are looking for Orca as a companion system with our BandG allready on board. Is there any problem of compatibilty? How can we switch beetween BandG autopilot and Orca autopilot fonctions? We expect to start a trip around the world next year. Do you think it is usefull to have the both systems (we are interesting to have all the informations on our phones or tablet when we are inside the boat due to bad weather conditions).
@SeawolvesTV Жыл бұрын
no prob at all, It just works as an extra layer on top your B&G.

Thanks for the review. Good camera and shots. A little hazy. Are you shooting through something that protects the video camera from moisture? If so, it's perfectly understandable.

Nice video and helpful review. I wonder how you set it up to work with your autopilot. Do you use the built-in GPS and 9-axis inertial motion unit, or have you kept the EV-1 sensor core from Raymarine?
@SeawolvesTV Жыл бұрын
you can easily switch between the two, inside of the Orca app. I'm currently using the built in sensors in the Orca unti.

Where do I find the episode about the Ray EV? Things to add on the list. Forwardscan, radar, laylines, rastercharts, an the ability to print charts on paper. With chartdatum, scale, diamonds and so on. A function to draw cours to steer and dead reckoning. On the screen. To be able to run the sofware on a bigger screen, laptob or pc :) Just some ideas
