Single handed sailing on a small 19ft bilge keeler. I take the hard decision to return to the Mainland early due to an issue with the outboard. As it happens, it was a quick and simple fix. But I cant be too cautious. I was not prepared to attempt a fix on a beach with a few limited tools.
Conditions were perfect to head out on this day, so I set course from Old Grimsby Harbour, Tresco to Mousehole, Cornwall.

Wonderful video. I've only been over by Scillonian III, so landlubber. But i did havea13 ft Rana with Evinrude outboard which would give me about 6kts.Go well!

@@Roy-gi5ul they have a new Scillonian apparently. Replacing the old one. I love the Scilly isles- I will be going back to explore it more.

Get yourself an inflatable SUP.. They make great tenders. I use one on my corribee and keep it fully inflated on deck.

@@jamesdunn3436 I’m keeping an eye out for a small inflatable. Seago make a tiny one. Did consider an inflatable kayak but they don’t pack down any smaller.

good stuff love to see boat cooking, its kind of rare music at the end was bit too loud

@@pironiero I only cook when I really have to. And I have to be really hungry to drive me to rustle up something. If and when I do some galley stuff, I’ll be sure to add it onto the footage. I apologise for the music, had issues when editing in a poor WiFi area and was unable to review before I uploaded. I took a gamble and have a few mistakes in this one.

just found the channel and i love the boat, for filming i use a headcam much easier , i guess you didnt film the trip down to the scillys from Medway

@@Spud63 I just got a head and chest mount. Hands free is good for me. I did film the early part of the trip but hit bad conditions in the Dover straits. So bad I had to forget about filming at the time. I also lost footage from Penzance out to the scillys- still trying to see if it went to the cloud. Gutted if I lost it permanently.

@@jasonjoyce4487 keeping safe is more important than filming , have you tried a cam on the end of the boom alot do that

Great channel Jason just found it and subscribed. Love your boat. I’m a believer in keeping sailing affordable and fun.

@@lewis26ful thank you. Sailing can be as expensive as you want it to be. But I am a sucker for the shoestring approach. Glad you enjoyed it.. makes me think it is all worthwhile filming and juggling it all together. In which I have limited skills!

@@jasonjoyce4487 Definitely worth it. It’s more relatable for the most of us that sail on a budget. I have a pocket cruiser on the crouch. My benefit is that you don’t need crew or have to organise much to go out for a sail.
@jasonjoyce4487
@jasonjoyce4487 Ай бұрын
@@lewis26ful exactly that. It’s more independent for me to sail this way. It’s swings and roundabouts- no one to help, but then I can do as I please, when I please. And a boat this size equipped the way it is, I can remain independent.

Hey Jason. Great videos. You mention your port tack was poor, any reason for that?
@jasonjoyce4487
@jasonjoyce4487 Ай бұрын
@@paddyfore yes, the tide was pulling strongly south. The wind was north east. So on the port tack, I made a north west track back over the ground I had covered. So I stayed on the south east track and managed to gain it back when the wind went north westerly as predicted. Plan B was to stay on that if the wind didn’t swing as predicted and then done the port tack long after Lands End to take me back into Mounts bay with the tide then being on the Port Beam. The tidal flow down from the Bristol Channel was brutal. The course made good was vastly different from the ships heading. Surprised me!
