Vets just say “it’s an elkhound thing…” and haven’t offered any real solution to minimize these! Thank you so much! Our Bowen also says thank you!!!

Merv; I can’t believe I’m only finding out about the cyst causes now finally. Ours was a darker coat that must have been the kind that get those cysts from the wrong diet. We took ours to a vet who told us to keep her on dry food, in fact the kind the vet sold. We worried about those cysts and emptied them ourselves. They kept coming back. By the age of 7 she got cancer. I’d like to go back and give that vet a piece of my mind. The 5 people in my family loved that dog like most people wouldn’t believe. Man she took good care of those kids if we were in the back yard or if the kids were in the house and we had to go to a store for a short time. She was loving but she didn’t like other dogs or people trying to get close to the kids. Once a guy tried to walk up our driveway to get in our back yard without asking anyone. She had him backed up against the garage and wouldn’t let him move. She barked to get us and was low growling at the salesman and she looked like she meant it. Our youngest daughter and the dog were so close. It was hard to find a time when you didn’t see them together.

Can confirm! We have three Norwegians. The cysts stopped when we started feeding them salmon daily. Here’s a tip, our local meat store GIVES us bags full of salmon skins and meat trimmings. Just ask. It helps to bring them in for a visit and pets when the boss isn’t around.

Great video Merv. I found if merle won’t eat the frozen fish to cover it with defrosted tripe and pork liver then it goes down like good bourbon!

Hi Merv- can you please tell me what harness that is? Thank you
@MervCarlson8 күн бұрын
That is a Hurrta harness, weekender model I believe. You can order them by size too. Thanks.

Mine are on Raw but I don’t have good access to fish (lots of beef, chicken, bison and bones). What are your thoughts on adding fish oil to their meals?
@MervCarlson5 ай бұрын
Hi Tracy, if they are on raw that works pretty good for your girls. They are mostly interior dogs, except for Leif in there. Some fish oil will do the same, for sure. Thanks, Merv

Please do you know of a breeder in Ohio? OR how can we AI w\o a vet.
@MervCarlson29 күн бұрын
Hello I don't know of a breeder out in Ohio, sorry. As to your question about AI, you would need to find a stud that could be collected, and then have it shipped. Various methods, frozen, fresh, etc.

My Tikka had one, they are easy to open and expel the sebum. People get these as well. They are really not something that you need to see a Vet for.
