Ian Wooldbrdge (now passed on) memorably wrote in the Mail the next day - "Coe & Ovett came round the last bend like two Spitfires coming out of the Sun". Will never forget that sentence because they did, two Brits beating the whole world.

In every version of this race and every article written, no one even mentions the great performance by the silver medalist, Jurgen Straub of East Germany. He ran well over his head and he was the most brave. C'mon "experts" give him a shout out!
