Dude, bring on more Prince! You are at the very tip of the iceberg in terms of viewing his enormous talent. There are some insane performances you need to see! I recommend his live performances of Motherless Child, Shhh, and his 1983 version of Computer Blue. You're about to fall down a Prince rabbit hole for sure. He was able to put out so many albums before his passing and they're all excellent.

I wholeheartedly agree. All great suggestions. However, I think that for somebody still getting their feet wet (in the waters of Lake Minnetonka), Prince's performance of Play That Funky Music in 2011 is my suggestion - only because it's a popular song/tune. I'm also trying ton think of great Prince performances on the piano to show what an incredibly diverse/dynamic musician he was.

True! When I was 10 years old in 1985 all I wanted to do was drop out of school run away from home marry Prince and join the Revolution 😅 Didn't have a lick of talent ,but that man and that band had my heart soul and mind. I can't listen to him much anymore today it just hurts too damn bad.

Hey! I’m glad you’re discovering Prince outside from the Dave Chapelle show. Prince was not just an immaculate guitarist. He was a fantastic piano, drum, bass, and everything else. He played over 26 instruments, if not more. He was a giant in the music industry, and I’m so thankful that he was part of my youth. The man was an all-round musician. Could sing, dance, and produce his own stuff and then also produced and wrote for other people. There is no one like Prince and there never will be. 💜

I've been a David Bowie fan since 1980, seen him tons of times. Other iconic artists too. But if you ask me what the best concert ever was, I will say Prince, Diamonds and Pearls tour. I wish I had seen him live more often. He got me almost stranded at the venue, because he just kept on playing. Venue tried to kick him out by turning on the main lights. His reaction? "Cool, now I can see you. Everybody get up and dance!" He finished after 1am. No public transport, had to hitch a ride with the guy sat next to me. The EFFING talent was just staggering.

There is a tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison (George Harrison son) are just a few other musicians to pay tribute to him, By performing a song written by George Harrison called "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Prince makes an appearance and performs. It’s an amazing performance. I highly recommend you see this performance. Just watch it on your own. You don’t even have to react to it on your channel. It will blow your mind. It’s an amazing performance.

I saw this concert 6 times in 1985 (5 at the Forum in L.A. and once in Long Beach - where my friend and I got on stage for "Baby I'm a Star"). The reason people say this is the concert to watch is because this is when Prince became "PRINCE" for the world at large (after the success of the "Purple Rain" movie - and the concert aired live via satellite globally). We longtime fans were there from the beginning ("Soft and Wet" was his first single and I was a fan when I was far too young to be listening to his stuff that couldn't be played on the radio, but that was part of the fun before the days of parental warning stickers - of which his "Darling Nikki" made a direction contribution in hearings in Congress. "Head" comes to mind too 😆). I got my first contact high at 16 in 1983 at a Prince concert 😳. Also, he was playing too loud for the venue that night (Universal Amphitheater - about 6,250 seats) because he was also playing 17,000+ seat arenas on that 1999 tour. My ears were ringing for two days, but I wasn't mad at him lol. I think it was 19 concerts spanning the ages of 16 to 44 for Prince and me. Part of my youth died in 2016 with him, Bowie and George Michael 😞. (And yes, another huge chunk had already died in 2009 with MJ 😢; I saw him for the first time of many in 1971 at 4 years old).

An important point to remember is, prince improvised his guitar. He played his solos in the moment. Every show was a new solo. Watching him kill it on the guitar takes on new meaning when you realise he is composing in real time in that moment.

I realize this is lengthy, but the lyrics at the beginning, (you said you were unable to hear) are awesome so here you go: 🎶 “Dearly beloved, we have gathered here today To get through this thing called life Electric word life, it means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here to tell you, there's something else The afterworld, a world of never ending happiness You can always see the sun, day or night So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright Instead of asking him how much of your time is left? Ask him how much of your mind, baby 'Cause in this life things are much harder than in the afterworld This life you're on your own And if de-elevator tries to bring you down Go crazy, punch a higher floor!”

Prince launched his Purple Rain tour in Detroit Nov 84 to 7 sold out shows. I was a freshman in university and lined up for 3 days at the box office to get tix. All 7 shows and the Purple Passion Bash after party where Prince and the Time jammed for hours. Syracuse was the first concert recorded but Detroit was by far the best show of that tour. Yes, Prince's 1985 concert in Syracuse, NY was also significant because it was the first live concert to be simulcast on television nationwide. The concert was broadcast simultaneously on MTV and various radio stations, allowing fans from all over the country to experience the electrifying performance in real time. This groundbreaking event further solidified Prince's status as a trailblazing and influential figure in the music industry, and it marked a new era in the way live concerts were shared and experienced by audiences.

The Parade tour, The Sign O The Times tour (captured in the classic 1987 concert film), the LoveSexy gig, the 1992 Glam Slam show and the early 2000's Musicology Tour were better gigs. The Purple Rain tour was dope though.
