Alison Krauss is someone that deserves a deep dive. Until she was recently passed by Beyoncé, she held the record for the most Grammy wins of any singer in history. 27 Grammys And Beyoncé has had the advantage of there now being more categories than when Alison was most active.

His ribbons and badge indicates he was a combat veteran in Europe during WWII. One of the ribbons is a purple heart, he was wounded in battle. As a combat infantryman myself I can state clearly the transition from combat to civilian life if very difficult. The one thing that was holding him together was the dream of returning to his loving wife, the safety of civilian life, getting a good job and raising a family. Seeing his wife in bed with another man broke him and as it turned out beyond repair. I can tell you that someone that has seen combat never really gets over it, you just learn to deal with the memories. Unfortunately far to many don't and they take a destructive path to deal with the pain and memories.

I’ve never seen a better video that so quickly shows the disease side of alcoholism and heart break for that matter. It’s sad and so tragic. Their voices together are haunting.
@hawk7469
@hawk7469 Жыл бұрын
Hey Vicki, Be quiet. You have know clue what you're talking about. This is not a video about the disease side of alcoholism. The video portrays a man coming home from war or it could be a man coming home early from work finding his wife cheating. Yes, did he turn to the bottle absolutely, but he was over it and this is how he chose to handle it because getting cheating on sucks for both both men and woman.
@vickimurphy5183
@vickimurphy5183 Жыл бұрын
@@hawk7469 of course the video is about cheating and the song too. My point was that Ricky did an excellent job in just a few frames showing the downward spiral of alcoholism. They go from beautiful to wrecked in just a few bars of the song. Of course they were drinking because of the cheating and the guilt but alcoholism is what killed them both. “Put the bottle to his/her head and pulled the trigger”. And yes I do know what I’m talking about. My step dad and mom split because of whiskey and after he was in ICU and almost died of liver failure. He put down the bottle thank God and is doing great today but we almost lost him. He’s such a different man sober.
@vickimurphy5183
@vickimurphy5183 Жыл бұрын
@@hawk7469 PS: the be quiet and don’t know what I’m talking about is uncalled for. Chill out it’s music and all music is open to interpretation. This is my interpretation and as it had 106 likes by the time you commented I’m going to say I’m not the only one who feels this way. It sounds like you were cheated on. If so I’m sorry for that but lashing out at people in the comments section over their opinion of someone else’s opinion of a song is a waste of energy. Just saying. Enjoy the song and video it’s a good one.

@@larynanntapp6333 I'd have to see this interview, as most people say "but I heard it here so it must be true" and then never provide the proof. But the video itself holds all the clues. Listen to the words in the music video "When you get back we'll START our family". Clearly they hadn't had a child yet, and when he gets back she's in bed with someone else, so they didn't have one after. The songs narrators are friends of the couple, and there are two children at the end of the video, which are clearly the children of the two people who buried her ("WE laid her next to him beneath the willow"). Also the little girl is older than any child would have been even if they had had one before/soon after he left for the war.

I was a bartender at the American Legion in my early 20s. I was talking with a group of regulars about how I didn't think I would be good in the military because I didn't think I could kill anyone. Every single one of them agreed that every human is capable of killing if it's the life of your people, or your own on the line. I remember this conversation distinctly because old veterans of mixed branches love arguing with each other, but they all very seriously agreed on this, and very few other topics.

Here is my story about this song. When I was 17 years old I fell hard in love for the first time. He ended the relationship and I never really knew what happened. All my life, through marriage, children and divorce, I wondered what happened to my first love. About 5 years ago he tracked me down and sent me a letter. We talked a few times. He said he just left our relationship because he thought I was the coolest girl and I could never be happy with him. Anyway he sent me this song. I was in a relationship and so was he so that was it. I finally felt closure but the song made me feel like he would always love me. It’s a very sad song though.

I dated the love of my life starting in 2013. In 2015, I went to basic training for the US Army National Guard at Fort Leanordwood. While I was there and just about to start the most crucial part of my training, she sent me a letter with pictures included of her sleeping with someone else. She told me how awful I was for making this decision as to serve my nation. Ever since then, I have struggled with alcohol and never felt love, happiness, or any emotions really since she destroyed me. This song is definitely one that resonates with me, and I feel as though i've left at least half of the story. Thank you for such an honest reaction.

Try some of his funny ones…”Ticks” “Celebrity” and “Online”… His duet with Carrie Underwood “Remind Me”… And the favorites “He Didn’t Have to Be” and “When We Get Where We’re Going”…. So many!

I just found this channel and it’s only the second video I’m watching, but I’m just overwhelmed with emotions! I love watching him hear these songs, that I already love, for the first time! You can tell he has such a good heart… but I need to know more like: Who is this guy? What’s his deal with music? And where is he walking to? And why is he so freaking handsome…? Yes, I have a huge crush but it’s OK because I don’t date. I’m almost 50. Harmless!😘

In '69 I saw a G.I. get a "Dear John letter" in southeast Asia from his wife. Others only learned the score when they got home; back to "the world", as they termed it. Country music has been called "Three chords and the truth" for a reason.

I love your description of country music as "effective and efficient". They do summarize a situation very skillfully if they are good writers, and whoever wrote this (whether it was Paisley or not) was awesome. That first line alone gives me chills. Rick Schroder (the actor) was awesome--he was a rare case of child actor transitioning to adult actor and both kids in the video are his, just FYI. The lady has also been in a lot of stuff, too, and is so good in this. Just subscribed:)

Hello Sebs! I am new to your channel, and I think you are one of the best "reactors" on KZbin! I'm a proud veteran and lover of all music. This is an excellent example of the strength of country music storytelling. Country is simply about life's ups and downs. Here is proof that tragedy is horrific and sometimes beautiful all at once. Shake it off and be thankful you can relate, but you have not had to experience this cautionary lesson. Beauty can be brutally honest.

Great Reaction Video...... This Song is a Rollercoaster...... As other have mentioned, the Actor playing the Soldier is Rick Schroder (Child Star from a show called "Silver Spoons" and as an adult on "NYPD Blue"...... He was Also the Director and the Girl at the End that watches their spirits walk away is Rick's Daughter....... Allison is a Legend..... I believe she still holds record for most Grammy's...... 36, I think..... Brad is a phonenominal Song Writer........ He has both Touching and Funny Songs in his library (Others have listed alot before me)....... To get an understnding of his outlook listen to a song called "This is Country Music".........

The storytelling in country music is so effective because it’s based on real life, things that happen in the lives of everyday people. I love your channel and have been bingeing on your videos for the past couple of hours.

They sound great together, but Alison is an "A1" artist on her own. Try "A Ghost In This House" by her, she is always an angel on your ears!

I've been listening to your reactions of primarily country songs because that's my genre now. I am impressed by the way you express yourself and not afraid to show your feelings. Brad Paisley is a great singer and he does duets with other singers as well as his own. Listen to Remind Me that he sings with Carrie Underwood.

I think this song is so popular because alcoholism and sometimes infidelity affects everyone. Whether it's your own story or a sibling or a cousin or friends, you know somebody that's been through it.

This is a great song, even without the video considered.Written by Bill Anderson , that's all you need to know. He has done more to promote carrying on traditional country than anyone. Classic country songs often tell a great and heart-wrenching story. Brad Paisley is one of the few of a younger generation of artists carrying on the true meaning of great country music.. Alison Krauss was the perfect choice for this song. It has been said, and I agree that she has the voice of an angel. Thanks for giving exposure of great classic country to a younger generation that otherwise would blow it off. Keep it up! - Don Zborowski

My little girl- Javier colon! A beautifully sad song. My dad showed me this song YEARS ago and I still cry every time I hear it. I’m definitely a daddy’s girl and this song gets to me. There’s no music video but if you can’t find a live performance… I would love to see your reaction!!

It’s a story of redemption. Regardless whether it happened here or on the other side of eternity. The story is: love redeems all. Forgiveness redeems all. That’s my take on it anyway. Hope it’s yours as well.
