If you think this banger is raw and powerful gotta listen to "silver springs" from this 1997 the dance tour, Stevie not only writing about her ex but making him perform it as well, Stevie giving it to him! with those eyes glaring right at him and seemingly yelling those powerful lyrics right at him!!!

Silver Springs is Stevie's response to this song. It got left off Rumors, but the performance from this same concert is stunning. I think the only better Fleetwood Mac live performance than Silver Springs from The Dance concert is the recording of "Rhiannon" from the February 27, 1976 show of "The Midnight Special". You can find it on their channel. There are other videos of the performance there, but this one has the best sound quality.

Other people have mentioned it but it bears repeating: the bewitching power of some of these songs really is fueled by the tension Stevie and Lindsay. As many people have said "Taylor Swift breaks up with you and writes a song about it. Stevie Nicks breaks up with you, writes a song about it and makes you play it and sing it with her, over and over and over again, for nearly 50 years." 🤟🤣

Supposedly Stevie Nicks had given a silver chain bracelet to keyboardist Christine McVie. Signifying the committment to staying together as a band. Not only the Stevie/Lindsay breakup, but also the end of the marriage of bassist John McVie "Mac" and Christine McVie occured about the same time (1976). Drummer Mick Fleetwood was also going through a divorce at the time. The album name Rumours (45 million sold) in a way dealt with all the turmoil in the band members' relationships. Another couple songs about the Stevie/Lindsay breakup were "Go Your Own Way" and "Dreams"

Sebs, if you are going to keep reacting to Fleetwood Mac, don’t sleep on Christine McVie--the other, other lead singer and pianist. Over My Head, You Make Loving Fun, Songbird, Everywhere. Gone at 79, yet still far too early. The lady always lived up to her maiden name, Christine Perfect.

Love this concert. I remember when it came out on PBS back in '97 - I believe it was the 20th anniversary of their Rumours album. Fleetwood Mac began as a very Bohemian band. And it was still this way with the album this is from "Rumors". That's why you're hearing that distortion. Plus, ever wondered why Stevie Nicks wears those dresses? For the same reason. Unbelievable. This is the only version to listen to. This came out when I was a senior in high school. Love them.

If you want raw on-stage emotion and chemistry, you have to check out "Silver Spring" from this concert; Stevie wrote it after their break up. So many of the tracks from the Rumours album form an evocative call and response; you have to give them credit as song-writers and musicians for being able to continue to create and perform together in spite of their intense and sometimes tense interpersonal dynamic.

The late luthier Rick Turner custom made the Model I for Lindsey Buckingham after discussions they had during the making of Rumours. Lindsey played on strats and telecasters before he joined FM. Mick wanted him to use the traditional Les Paul all the previous FM guitarist used. (also wanted him to use a pick - didn't happen) The Les Paul gave a bigger warmer sound but not the clarity of a strat for his finger picking. Turner built Lindsey a guitar that could do both also with an acoustic overlay. He presented it to Lindsey during Tusk tour rehearsals in 1979 and Lindsey has used it as his primary electric stage guitar ever since. Turner has a small range of the Model 1's but it flagship model is the Model 1-LB (named for Buckingham). John Meyer uses a variant model.

You need to hear the studio version too. One of the greatest bass solos - simple, but the tension in it is amazing. On the studio version Lindsay uses a Dobro to get that sound. There was some serious tension in the band too, as you point out. They were all writing songs about each other - "You Make Loving Fun", "Go Your Own Way", "Second Hand News"... How they stayed together as a band is a miracle.

Because you asked: Guitar is a Rick Turner Model 1. This is one of the most versatile and powerful instruments I know. Mahogany body, laminated maple/purpleheart neck, piezo pickup, humbucker magnetic pickup which is mounted on a turnable plate to find the sweet spot of any guitar string, a switch to split the magnetic PU to a singe ecoil, a fade-control for mixing piezo and magnetic pickup and an active parametric eq. THIS guitar looks tiny but clearly is a masterpiece of the deceased luthier Rick Turner. Lindsey Buckingham wanted the clarity of a Stratocaster and the power of a Gibson and loved to handle this guitar like one of his acoustics. Rick Turner desigend and handmade the Model 1 and Lindsey uses this guitar for almost every song. I own one and that's a beast of a guitar! Cheers. BTW: I Like your video!

The breakup song that was truly personal was Silver Springs sung in this show by Stevie to Lindsey. That is worth reacting to also. The Chain is really a group song, and talks about both breakups (Stevie+Lindsey and Christine and John McVie, who were married). The Chain was more about keeping the bonds of the Chain of the band together despite the personal issues. It was the bands signature song.

The original song is the only song that was made up of individual parts recorded at different times. Then it was dubbed together in the studio. Johns bass line was going to be a different song. Stevie gave them the lyrics for the verses. Lindsey and Christine wrote the music and the chorus lyrics. The band loved Mick's and John's ending. Lindsey added the guitar over the ending, and 'The Chain' was made. It's the only Fleetwood Mac song credited to all five members of their 1977 lineup.

It was partly called the Chain and credited to all the band members, because it was scraps of other songs pieced or chained together into something new. Stevie wrote a demo song called The Chain with had the a completly different sound and lyrics that ware altered for this version; Christine's demo Keep Me There included the instrumental from the bass solo to the end of the song; and the intro was a recycled piece of a Buckingham Nicks song from before they joined the band.

Lindsey (lead singer on this track) dated Stevie Nicks (center stage), John McVie (the bass player) was married to Christine McVie (the blonde playing the piano). The song The Chain was on the album Rumours, which came out in 1977. This was Fleetwood Mac's highest selling album of all time. Because of the tone of each song, everyone could relate.
