If you are following a non SEC team, you have heard main stream media force feed SEC propaganda to an unreasonable extent for 10 plus years. The gap wasnt huge, Saban carried the weight and all SEC teams shouted SEC SEC. The rest of the country detests that garbage. The real question: did SEC schools have more under table paying players than other conferences pre NIL? Yes. Things have changed folks. Cope

the dominance is over. but don’t think one bad year means they’re gonna become the ACC and not win a NY6 or CFP game in 5 years. the fans just watched kirby smart get boat raced by and tell themselves “so my coach has been here for 5+ years and can’t even beat him but marcus freeman gets its done in 3.” since the end of 2020 I believe lane kiffin is the only active SEC coach to beat him. and now, kirby’s not even top of the conference. remember: Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, South Carolina, has no pro sports. Tennessee’s and Louisiana’s pro sports currently all stink. the SEC is currently the best basketball and baseball conference. the fans treat the colleges like a religion. the conference will be fine.

Everything you said about Alabama being the primary driver of the SEC document was true. The part where you waved some shiny keys was in asserting that Alabama fell off because Nick Saban stepped down. I see it the other way around, that Nick Saban stepped down once he realized he no longer had a built-in competitive advantage now that NIL and the transfer portal were in play. Why risk a legacy with repeated fifth place finishes in the conference when you can go out on top and let the inevitable fall from the Heights on someone else’s shoulders?
@SoopologyСағат бұрын
Lmao no. No matter the conference that went on the run the SEC did (really about 4 programs), the sport would’ve blown up more anyway. And likely would’ve been even bigger because the East/MidWest/West has bigger markets. OR the sport would’ve been on this path anyway, because programming was on the upswing regardless of what’s on it. Sports benefitting from TV & social media, not the other way around.

I've always maintained that the SEC was the top conference but not nearly as superior as their fan bases tend to believe. All we heard was just look at NFL talent. So I actually did that today. Just a small sample size of NFL rosters of the 12 NFL teams playing this weekend in the playoffs. All the roster information was taken from ESPN rosters on line and includes IR and practice rosters and the college listed for all players on those teams. Incredibly, the SEC had 208 players listed on those 12 teams rosters. Anyone want to guess how many the Big 10 has??? 205. I'm will to bet SEC fans will have a hard time understanding this. My conclusion is what I thought. Not nearly as one sided as people think. And secondly, this isn't an overnight thing. The last decade has been evening out. Your welcome!

I don't see how any games got devalued during the regular season. The Oregon -Ohio st game and the Michigan game weren't in any way, other than Michigans 6-5 record, which has nothing to do with the playoffs. The only thing getting devalued is the championship teams that never had to compete with all the top teams. Hell, it brings more value to winning the championship.

That's where you keep falling, Josh. The second tier of the SEC is NOT as good as the Big 10, not this year. But in 2023 that ended, not 2024.

I don't put much weight on Texas not running the ball well against Ohio State, they only had 53 yards on 30 attempts on ASU. They haven't run the ball well for 2 games now. As far as the SEC, they will still be a premier conference. They might not win as many Natys with Saban in retirement. It wasn't that long ago but from the years of 1981 through 2005 the SEC only had 4 Natys. The BIG12 had 6 during that stretch. The U had 5 in the same span. How times change.

Saban situation begs the question of was Alabama really as dominant as they appeared pre playoff years? I don’t think so. People forget a lot of anomalies happened this year to give us the CFP teams we got. Ole’ Miss losing to Kentucky. Do you really think that is going to happen again next year? Alabama losing to Vandy? Indiana only losing 1 game. Georgia losing their starting QB for the CFP during the SEC championship game. If 1 of those didn’t happen things would be different. Do we think those things will happen again next year? Bowl games outside the CFP really don’t tell us anything. Sit outs, disappointed teams playing for a conciliation prize that doesn’t mean anything. If we learned anything this year, the SEC top down is the most competitive at a high level conference out of the big four. The B1G is the most top heavy unevenly talent distributed conference. 18 and even 16 teams seem to water down competitive conference schedules. We saw this in the B1G with Penn State and Indiana, and we saw this in the SEC with Texas.

I’m sick of hear people say Arkansas, Florida, and Auburn are good teams since they happen to play Alabama and Georgia every year.

The only reason folks are celebrating that there are no SEC teams in the championship game is because we had to listen all year to everyone touting the "depth" of the SEC every chance they got as an add-on to any SEC result during the season. But guess what? You were complete frauds all year. You got dumped, rotated, mopped up in almost every post season occasion. Teams the SEC made fun of straight boatraced them. Sure, Ohio State really got “screwed” in the Penn State game by officials and didn’t benefit from them. In fact being so penalized this season would be a perfect bailout if they benefit from bad officiating while winning like Clemson did against Ohio State in a playoff or national championship game. As well as Penn State in their loss to Notre Dame tho the 1st PI on an interception was the right call and the 2nd was certainly by the book, so it wasn’t egregious but it also was pathetic and a bailout, the missed holding call was egregious. I was for expansion. After this year, it is abundantly clear that we either need to go back to 4 or they need to fix the issue with the format, and do so quickly. In this current format, we have the regularly 2 worst teams in the playoff getting first round byes (Arizona State and Boise St). You have all 4 teams that got Bye's having to wait an entire month until they play (All 4 teams who got byes lost, by the way) and you have teams that should be ranked a lot higher getting cupcakes to beat up on to ramp up in the playoff. Those major things will cause massive issues if they aren't addressed in the future.

If the SEC is fading, it's okay. I don't know that we are. But 20+ years of prominence and a decade plus of dominance is as good as anyone can ask for. That said, once we get a handle on the new NIL, revenue sharing, roster management and retention? I like our chances. We can't continue to be a feeder system for top tier talent to add-in to already talented teams in the Big10. It isn't like they were laps behind us. They were nipping our heels the last 4-5 years. Then they get to rest during the season, a luxury we can't afford with our conference schedule. Add our guys while also taking away from our depth? Well...guerilla warfare is what that is. And it's always been effective against a well provisioned foe.
