Thanks Matt. As an old guy playing park league softball (and watching MLB for almost 60 years), I’ve learned all of this by observation and trial/error EXCEPT the excellent tip to line up your left foot perpendicular to the bag. Genius idea, I’m using it from here on in.

Great video as always! Question: when receiving the ball I've taught the girls to step towards the ball with their right foot so that they position themselves on the inside of the bag rather than the outside. My reasoning was the runner would be more outside than inside and stepping forward would shorten the throw from SS by a couple of feet and start the transition throw sooner. Is this incorrect?

This is ideal footwork for a ball to the SS straight on or moving middle, but you should cover inside/front half footwork for turns from 3B.

Good video, however, softball is a bit different. The second baseman wasn't late getting to the base. Softball has so much more small ball possibilities that the second baseman cannot cheat over that far for fear of the bunt getting put down (especially with runners on first and second. She'll be covering first while the corners crash). The field is much smaller (60 feet base paths, the same as a baseball pitching mound) so the double play has to be more quickly paced. Just my two cents.
