Thank you soooo much for sharing!! This is my daughter’s 2nd yr playing softball & she’s 12 now. Changed schools & softball is REALLY big there. I saw how behind she was! She has come so far this season due to having coaches like you. They’re teaching the game & not just hitting/catching, unlike last year! I’m gonna show her this so she can get a better understanding of base running. I didn’t play the game so I never knew that softball was so much fun!!! Hate I missed out but I’m so grateful to get her exposed to it now!!!

What age are you starting off at? You know its better to start young. At a certain point even if you are pkaying rec ball 14 year olds are not gonna be something that you want to start off on. So Im hoping your between 6-9

Can anyone answer this: which type of lead at first should a player use? Does it depend on personal choice, or does it depend on the hitters side of the plate they are on? For example, would someone take a ready stance fully in fair territory if the batter is right handed, or would a runner take a stance half in foul territory if the batter is left handed? Or is it just personal comfort? I see a lot of runners stay with their back foot in foul territory regardless of which side of the plate the batter is on. Is it wiser to be partially in foul territory if the batter is left handed to avoid possibly being hit by a batted ball, or is it more beneficial to be "one step closer" to second thinking the ball will be hit to the first base side?
@juanitatorres59603 жыл бұрын
to be honest I tend to get as close to second as possible, if the catcher throws down to first to go to second having a better chance to being safe also I'm one base closer to home. to me it doesnt really matter what side the batter is on, it kinda matters on speed to, if your more of a slow player it would be smart to stay closer to first and you're more fast then try to get as wide as possible. (sorry if I didn't answer your question the way I should have I just wanted to show my way of taking leads at first)

The lead on third, the only thing I am not liking is the coming back to third in foul territory. Come back up the line will force a throw from the catcher to be off or will hit you. I don't much care for his logic on this, everything else is spot on.
@oe94733 жыл бұрын
You stand on foul territory because if you get hit with the ball on the inside of the foul line you are considered out but if you are in foul territory and it hits you you aren’t considered out
@msmatthe883 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he is wrong on that one. You would turn back to the line and if the catcher throws dive to the outside corner. Same as baseball. This forces the throw to the field side resulting in a longer tagging motion. He’s also not using logic on running in foul ground on a tag up. You take a direct path the the foul side of the plate. You wouldn’t intentionally make third to home 65 feet instead of 60.
@msmatthe883 жыл бұрын
@@oe9473 this is only true of a batted ball. He is referring to returning to the bag on a pickoff throw from the catcher.

I agree with most of what Coach has to say, you missed out on the opportunity to talk about deep fly balls when on 1B and how far you should get off base depending on what part of field it’s hit and how deep. Also don’t agree with leading off of 3rd in foul yes but coming back in foul no. I don’t want to give 5he catcher an open lane to throw the runner out. Going back in foul territory gives the catcher a wide open throwing lane even though they are farther away from a tag. I rather close off the throwing lane

Alexandra Garcia for base running or when you hit the ball ??
@meaganruliffson54825 жыл бұрын
When you hit the ball you run right away but if you are on a base and you are deciding to run look at your third base coach and if he is yelling at you to go you have to go but if he is not looking at you or saying stay stay

If your on a base you run as soon as the pitcher lets go of the ball
@klglenn51093 жыл бұрын
Okay so you run when the pitcher releases the ball. You are considered out if you run before the pitchers pitches. So once that pitcher releases the ball you take your lead. If that catcher misses the ball then you are gone to the next base. And you keep doing that until you are in scoring position to get a run for your team😎. Now if your talking about when you run from the beginning...then the answer to that it you run when you hit the ball as soon as you hit the ball you are running to first base.

I totally disagree with the way it is being taught to lead off. You really should square your shoulder like a fielder with your left foot on the inside of the bag to push off with and then you turn and run like a sprinter like in a leadoff in baseball. I could be two steps ahead of anyone leading off like you are teaching.
