Second FASTEST EVER 10k - Battersea Park 10K 2023 (FAST) - welcome back to another video and today I am sharing with you a video from my second fastest ever 10k that I ran at the Battersea park 10k 2023 organised by Sri Chimnoy! I went to London for one last fast 10k race of 2023 and managed to jump into the golden leaf 10k to see if I could get a new 10k PB, or at least get close!
A massive thanks to everyone I spoke to there, people who helped film and the organisers of the race!

Congrats on your race, really solid effort! The busyness of the park with people, dogs, bikes on top of the multi-lap format makes it more challenging to stay focused on your pace, especially when you're running solo!

Fantastic time Andy! I like how you setup your goal ahead of time and went with it. Usually I sort of wing it and see what I have for the day. I've been working on more of the mental side of racing recently. 6th place running with the likes of Nick Bester is quite an accomplishment. I agree with your assessment that running with the regular park users can be distracting and also cause some slow ups as you focus on navigating around them. As always, I enjoy your videos and your advice has given me more focus and insight into my own training. Also thanks for the tour of London. Have only been to Heathrow but hope to one day visit the UK.

Great running mate! 👊🏻 that’s a great time on that course. I did the half there back in September, it was 8.5 laps! Mentally found it really tough. Too many runners and walkers on the course and was constantly over talking ppl and having to slow down in places. Ran 1:16:58 and was way short of my target. Definitely not a fast course despite it being flat!

Am in awe at your dedication Andy, travelling down to London, little sleep, ... it did look a bit surreal with people walking, jogging, scooters etc, a strange combo, so extra kudos for keeping focused once the two guys moved ahead. Have you run at Castle Combe , not too far from you, three laps of the race circuit and only runners !!!

What a joyful Vlog. You clearly had a great time there. Yes I ran a Sri Chomnoy 10k back in 2008, finishing 4th. It's not quite on the scale of the Run Through events or others. Hence the feeling you're doing a solo time trial round a busy park. I think this is one of those occasions where it's all about the time you had, rather than the time you ran. Sitting on a coach for several hours won't have helped either. If you add travel, sleep, surface and competition to the mix I'm sure you can find 33 seconds there...!

I did my long run on Friday there and I noticed the sloshing with leaves and mud and it’s just random that if it’s raining the days before the race you might get a bit of that in the autumn unfortunately. I have 10k and half marathon PB there . Especially Run through they organise pretty much every month and if you get good conditions it’s a fast course if you don’t mind laps. I’d say try again in spring or winter you won’t be disappointed!

Great run mate, lovely to meet you and share a few miles 👍 I think XC on the same day meant it was slightly less busy than usual, sadly find myself in between groups for Sri races, that’s just bad luck though. When did you kick for home? I went about 50-100m after the bandstand and feel it was a bit late, but overall solid race and well organised I found.

Well done! Interesting looking at where you ran it is the exact same loop as the 5K races have done there (and one 5 miler) which are mostly in summer evenings but go in the opposite direction. I don't remember any part of it being a poor surface. Imagine it was just the late autumnal leaves and so generally slightly damp underfoot conditions. On summer evenings it is busy (mainly with other runners) but never found it an issue so must be more out and about on Saturday mornings. Also think it is difficult to race that early in the morning especially after travelling down. Overall that race looks relatviely very high standard (89 sub 40 out of 195) but it is also is "clashing" with every parkrun everywhere so kind of inevitable gaps form. Anyway I feel sometimes just need to try different races and indeed tactics. That you kept up the pace and even slightly negative split it probably meant did the best you could on the day. Was that Ben Parkes & Sarah Place you were referring to? I see Nick Bester ran well but "only" was 3rd and Anya Culling was 1st woman.

Yeah in the dry conditions it wouldn’t of been an issue but the turning onto the middle path was a bit boggy for the first 10/20 meters and you lost a bit of traction… that plus the leaves and mud on that corner made it a bit sloppy. Yeah I’m really glad I tried it and that’ll be the theme for next year too.. some old/some new races! Yes Ben Parkes & Sarah Place 👍

I run Battersea 2-3 times a week for all speed work. It is pretty empty week days and Chase the Moon/Sun in the evening, especially once it is cold is also nice and empty. I got a free Saturday once from kid time and ran down there and was dumbfounded how many more people were there. You also quickly realise people are amazingly unaware of their surroundings and that 50-200 people are running as hard as they can down this path. Try it again during a cold evening.

I actually mixed Saysky (half tights) with a Soar top for NY (Saysky do not do a soft blue top , and the soar matching tights highlight the crotch area like they belong to Alice Cooper) , while it might be fround apon, worked a treat and the saysky half tights are brilliant for pockets 260G of gel, 6 salt tablets and a small burner phone 😆.. but then again I did run it in the rebellion pro's which I did not see another pair of , so perhaps I am a tad strange .
@TheFODRunner
@TheFODRunner 7 ай бұрын
A burner phone?! We’re you evading the police whilst you were out there?! 😂😂 yes those saysky pockets are brilliant aren’t they for storing all the gels… and burner phones! How did you find the rebellion pros?
@JohnBirtchetSharpe
@JohnBirtchetSharpe 7 ай бұрын
@@TheFODRunner 'was not a burner really , just you get the type of phone i can carry easily ;-) , The rebellion pro's were great for the first 12 miles, but they did apply more strain to my hips which has highlighted some place to focus on in the gym. The rocker, and bounce was very welcome at the end (5th avenue) where I saw others cramping up.. and walking. I possibly could have saved a minute running in my trusty Saucony Pro 3's but too close to call as the rebellions are brilliant when fresh and when knackerd , just not as well as coasting as the Pro 3's.

You know Battersea is my home park, but I actually went to Olympia park to get my 10k PB. I think because it is my everyday running park, I can't get my mind into racing mode if it is at Battersea so I have to go elsewhere. My kit is all over the place almost never matching... but I did run a 10k PB with head to toe Puma kit and must say it feels nice to be all match. What do you think of the PureSport things? There is so much social media push with influencers that it put me off even trying it but I am curious. Ok, you get a pass for the Prime drink... no one is perfect...

Yeah I can understand that… I think I’d feel the same if there was a race on our local industrial estate! The puresport balm and freeze roll is something I’ve used for well over a year now… freeze roll before every run and balm after hard workouts and long runs and I swear by it. I don’t really use any other products though, I am an ambassador for them and i shout about these 2 products from the roof tops, but i wouldn’t recommend anything else just because I don’t use anything else!

Great run. Battersea Park not far from me and have done a few 5K's there though fortunately the races I've done there stick to the main path which is nice and smooth. A lovely park but the downside is it attracts a lot of dog walkers, families and other runners as you say so you can loose a few seconds weaving around people and dogs.

Battersea is always the bottom and middle part only. It can get busy and you probably got a bit unlucky as it was the first nice day in over a week so people were making the most of it.
