Bentley Turbos are classics, but they're complex with lots of failure points. If you buy one with problems, it will cost a fortune to fix it--if you even can (See Hoovie's experience with his Bentley Turbo). The only way to buy a used Rolls or Bentley is to go to a specialized shop that services, reconditions and sells them. You can get some kind of warranty, and you'll know that the car is working properly when you buy it. It's worth a few thousand extra for this.

The mad thing is that most people who buy the £140k Bentleys are spending less than 1% of their total wealth! This can be interpreted in 2 ways - that the average Jo is spending 10 times more on their car than they should, or the rich just don't like cars.

A Bentley that doesn't break the Bank!!!!!!! (Servicing)????
@AndrewGruffudd7 жыл бұрын
If you go to a factory-trained specialist, servicing should cost no more than sending a BMW to a main dealer.
@tommuchitty87197 жыл бұрын
Mate I have a 1993 Brooklands Bentley and it cost 3 grand every two years in suspension rebuilds. I am pretty sure an old Bentley is bit more than a BMW.
@AndrewGruffudd7 жыл бұрын
It's not impossible. But then it's possible to have nothing but trouble with a new car as well. For instance, if the car was in an accident at some point in its life and not quite well enough repaired, the wear on certain components could be excessive. This is why buying the right car in the first place is of the essence. If it has a warranty, then any faults can be detected in good time. Also, it depends on use and other variables: I cannot imagine that your story, as unfortunate as it is, is typical. If it were, the car would have a bad reputation. Typically, the main regular expense on the suspension of Bentleys of that era is the hydraulic system, which should be renewed every seven years.
@tommuchitty87197 жыл бұрын
One Owner car mate, no accidents. Just trying to give people an understanding that buying old Bentleys is not as cheap as what Tiff said in this video.
@AndrewGruffudd7 жыл бұрын
It should have been sorted by the factory, then. Bentley is a business, and businesses have obligations to sell merchantable quality goods. And as Rolls-Royce (who then owned Bentley) pride themselves on quality, they would - if approached correctly from the first - bend over backwards to see your car right. As I said, it's not normal for such a car to wear its suspension so rapidly so, failing misuse and other possible causes, it wasn't built correctly in the first place. If it were me, I'd have established a relationship with the factory, which I could then call on in such an eventuality. Even now, I'd have the problem investigated thoroughly by an independent, possibly with a view to litigation - 'though I wouldn't expect much, it could at least mitigate expenditure and, possibly, recoup some of the past expense. That said, you should weigh that against the cost of a civil suit, which could be ruinously expensive in itself.

Ruffas yeah but if you buy a nicer one it would most likely have an upgraded head gasket and a possible lifetime guarantee :) that's what my MG F has
@AndrewGruffudd7 жыл бұрын
The problem the 1.8 has is the small coolant reservoir. If the owner isn't fastidious in maintaining coolant levels, then the gasket will blow. If he is, it should last to spec.
@williamwoods80227 жыл бұрын
Totally solved with the new N type gaskets used on the Chinese MG6 cars etc. The Rover engineers at the time had the solution to the problem but the management just wanted to waste money on the likes of MG SVR instead of fixing this simple problem and designing a decent replacement for the Metro/100 and is why they went bust in the end.
