I'd like to imagine there's some kind of alternate future where Trolls became the popular scandinavian franchise in Japan instead of Moomin. Imagine a theme park with all those faces staring down at you.

DKC3 is amazing, I have an original copy, but the screen would sometimes appear when I turned on the game due to poor cartridge contact, either due to dirt or something else.

I didn't even know Daikaiju Monogatari existed. It's a shame it never came out here, could've been a classic.

그 시절에 눈치를 채지 못하고 넘어갔던 순간들을 다시 보게 되면 이랬었던가를 떠올립니다. 지금은 왜 이런 이야기들을 보지 못하고 있나 싶군요.
The bio base in Daikaiju Monogatari hits hard. I thought Giygas (Earthbound / Mother 2) was scary... I didn't know Japan had its own version of SEUCK (Shoot Em Up Construction Kit, an early computer program where you make shooter games)! It seems that, as with the Donkey Kong Country 3 piracy screen and the Sonic CD "Infinite Fun Sega Enterprises" screen, the Dezaemon corrupt data screen can add a sense of doom with the right choice of background or music (boss battle music, "game over" screen, etc.). I remember the "copy protection screen" meme from a few years ago. The trend probably started with the game Spyro: Year of the Dragon which had a very clever and elaborate way of punishing players who used illegal copies. If the system detected a pirated copy, Zoe, the fairy character, would warn you that you were playing a pirated game, but play would continue as normal. As you played through, however, the game became slowly more corrupted. If you somehow made it to the last boss, it would reset to the beginning, saving and overwriting your progress. It was very reminiscent of how illegal copies of 3D Studio Max would appear to work just fine, but slowly corrupt the mesh data leaving your 3D model a tangled mess to punish you for downloading an illegitimate copy -- but also of the signs of madness from Eternal Darkness, which made it disturbing. So it inspired a generation of players to create "creepypasta" about copy protection screens, including making their own fake ones (for example, a screen for Nintendogs in which the dog dies due to the player using an unlicensed copy).
