I hear this nonsense all the time but why kill an engine that’s deemed itself super reliable & cheap to maintain? “If it ain’t broke ,don’t fix it”! But what people don’t understand when they build these machines with more tech more displacement with more power the cost goes up! That takes away the whole meaning of “entry level”. Entry level power=entry level price!

Once you learn the basics on shifting and if riding is gonna be a passion of yours, your gonna want a bigger more faster more thrilling experience in less than a year. Maybe a month or 2. Idk, the market wasn't full of so many beginners options when I was coming up. They had the Ninja 250 and Ninja 500 and the next best thing that wasn't a race rep and affordable as hell was a SV650. Does the segment always need to be getting faster? As an R3 owner, the power is perfectly adequate for all on road usage and I remember when I first got on it, it was plenty scary enough 😅 Too many people focus on MORE POWER MORE SPEED as if a usable, approachable bike doesn't have an upper limit on those metrics. Reliability, safety, handling, affordability are all vastly more important in my opinion- at least when it comes to this segment. I've taken my R3 on track and that was the only time I wished I had more power.

@@torque110 depends on your style of riding- the r3 is perfectly capable of 160kmh+, and that's not even sitting on redline. if you're larger and spend multiple hours on freeways a week, perhaps something with a larger engine that'd be less stressed would be good- like a Cbr500r. The r3 definitely doesn't accelerate madly past about 90kmh, but it's still very much able to cruise and overtake at freeway speeds!

Yamaha is really shooting itself in the foot with the R3, R7, and R9 lineup. Why not make the R3 a proper A2-compliant bike, like the Aprilia RS457 or Ninja 500?
