The amount of misinformation regarding flanking damage in the twitch chat and these youtube comments is wild. The "flanking" bonus damage is scaled based on the angle between the last two hits the unit recives from ANY direction by up to 200% increased damage at 180 degrees between the last two hits. The direction the unit is facing or being attacked from is completely irrelevant. You will get the same results from the front and back or from the sides. The second shot will always get the same bonus with the same angle no matter where it hits; only changing the angle changes the damage. That's on the devs i suppose for calling it a flanking bonus, they should have just called it a surround bonus or something.

@robcat6377Ай бұрын
agreed, it's more akin to the dungeons and dragons trap damage than actual flanking damage. not completely a misnomer though since in practice the effect is the same in that if you hit from a wider range of angles you do more damage. i suspect chris sawyer did this in the original ta because tank turrets can turn, and originally, this was a public domain rewrite of ta, but it's just speculation.
@AnonymousVenatorАй бұрын
@@ChecedRodgersIt's a pretty well known fact. It's because getting units to face a certain way, especially vehicles is kinda difficult.

Even if they wanted they won't, being pro is a full time job now and BAR can not offer them enough money. @uThermal when your energy is overflowing like in this game, set the white button lower and make a metal maker or two until it's not overflowing. also, like in starcraft, never stop ecoing. ever. the best players find the balance between eco, teching, and ability to produce units to continue fighting, also if there is more than one lane you need to control, this is where towers other than llts come in handy, it means you don't need as big of an army in each lane, similar use to the towers in sc2, but then for defending any area rather than just your base/s.

Yay BAR! D-Gun is short for "disintegrator gun," which is what the weapon was called in the original, Total Annihilation.
@knurlgnar24Ай бұрын
Try moving away from T1 pawns earlier, and once the enemy has ranged units LLTs are almost useless. Your micro would make early T2 units very powerful. Once you get a reclaim field use that to move to T2. You can even reclaim your T1 lab to finish the T2 lab. It can be rebuilt at a later time once those powerful T2 metal extractors get going as they give 4x the metal.

Also you know that if you hold the middle mouse button (wheel), you can pretty much go around the map like you do with the Mini-Map quite easily like how you're pressing around the Mini-Map in SC2.

In Settings you can enable the "flank" marker, it will show you the flank locations of each enemy units. The rear I believe is 200% damage.

There are no flank locations. You get bonus damage when you deal it from different angles in sameish time (including from above)
@Armis71Ай бұрын
@@SuperKitowiec Mmmok.. I meant the you can enable the "Flank UI Icon" in the settings which shows you a circle around a unit, the White portion = 100% damage, Red = 200% damage.

4:50: Oh, wow. That's actually a HUGE advantage vs vehicle players. You have a raised safe-space right between their bases, allowing you to pop out in any direction to harass 🤩 You should sneak an Engi up there and steal the MEX; would be hilarious 😄
@VelthrexАй бұрын
It's a cool idea. However, practically speaking the enemy can walk it's Commander up the hill and clear whatever is up here, you'd also be within radar vision, meaning you'd be open for artillery attacks or possibly even a Fabricator swap to Bots/Air to deny that(though an overreaction, walking commander up there makes the most sense). Can definitely be exploited to take temporary cover and harass from a different angle early game though!
@MyylkАй бұрын
Flank damage occurs when a unit is taking hits for 2 opposite sides (front AND back, left AND right, etc) thats why surrounding units is very powerful. There's also a gui option to visualize this.

@AntoniGawlikowskiАй бұрын
Flanking damage is not really attacking from the side (as in side of the unit). It's rather having at least 2 units attacking a unit from two sides. So in other words, it doesn't activate if you get behind a unit. It activates if you have one unit shooting from the front and one from the back (or side)

9:56 You have light fragile units Pawns, and sturdy Stout. Moving Pawns in front of Stouts is not the way here. With Stouts and Blitzes it could work, but with Pawns, no. Line of Stouts in front and line of Pawns behind, and when Stouts started absorbing damage, just move line of Pawns behind enemy line or enemy clamp - that is first more costly way. 2nd less costly way is Stouts line in front and lose clamp of Pawns on Your flank but behind Stouts (lose clamp - draw spiral), after Stouts starting tanking damage, move Pawns forward flanking and then move Pawns through enemy formation or behind enemy formation. Bind unit to separate keys, Stout 1, Pawns 2 for example - and damage tanking units in front always. 10:19 Situation here is asking for few (like 4) artillery Shellshockers. 14:03 This is not good. 14:15 This is a lot better. 14:26 Too much separation between flanking units and tanking unit is not a good idea. Bed synchronization. Blitzes would do much better than Pawns here anyway.

Marc, you really can do T3 faster I think... you'll dominate
@SamsanityАй бұрын
To tech to a T2, you should go for a primarily energy based economy Make tons of energy -> convert energy into metal. Rely less on windmills since they are variable with weather, try to tech into advanced solars, then fusion reactors (reclaim all the previous energy production for their metal to tech into more advanced energy production).
@tni333Ай бұрын
You’re only playing 8v8 eh?
@ElmerFuddBARАй бұрын
not really right and its really map dependant. wind on some maps is better efficiency than asolars, better than fusion and even better than adv fusion. converting energy to metal is not good either especially on solar/asolar economy, the payback time on that is huge. unless its a high wind map or you're on adv fusion economy then converting energy to metal is not worth it. Of course to go t2 you need enough energy income or you'll stall hard when you go t2. metal is really the limiting factor when going t2 as t2 lab and con bot/units are very expensive on metal compared to t1, so the best way to go t2 as a front player is to expand to get more mexes, but most importantly to get the required metal boost is to make good trades at t1, reclaim metal from the battles and put that into a bit more energy and a t2 lab. metal is really the limiting factor when switching to t2 and getting the timing right is pretty crucial.
