You are so right. I have good young adult children but I still tell them to make sure your paper work is up to date and all safety equipment lights are working. Because you don't want to risk being stopped you never know when a bad one will be the one who stops you. And be cooperative most of all.
@SloverOfTeuth

Police often say "We only catch the dumb ones". As a teenager, I started getting stopped by the police as soon as I got my first tatty old Italian sports car, go figure. There's a process, and you do the process to minimise the consequences for you, whether you enjoy it or not, because that gets the best outcome for you. In over 40 years of driving, I've paid less than $200 total in fines (call it $500 in today's money), that's it, and I've had plenty of fun. It's sad to see that he is behaving like a child and making bad decisions, and that likely comes down to upbringing and never learning how to deal with authority, believing he could always cry his way out of it. Whether you like it or not, society requires that kids in cars have certain protections, and one should be able to understand that and adapt to the reality of it. You might even want kids to have those protections. If you are driving while revoked, it probably makes sense to wear a seat belt yourself. Lots of bad decisions, unfortunately.

These factors are compounding and in all honesty, what we all just saw wasn't a man crying because he got caught and is refusing to take responsibility, I believe we saw someone who is actively trying to improve their life and turn things around but has no trust in the system and has no other choices left. We didn't see someone violently resisting arrest, we saw someone having a mental breakdown because he has no options or control of his life. We don't need to forgive his actions, but we could all do with practicing some empathy and understanding that people in these situations aren't inherently bad. Maybe, but his actions seemed more pissed off with himself than with the cops. Likely thought he’d caught a felony charge somewhere in there and was heading for a good stint.
