The natural sequel to Monster House would be set in that series of condos that were once the Danger Zone of the film’s climax. The developers drained a lake to build them, so you can say that all the dead criminals that were sleeping with the fishes are now haunting the condominiums. You could call it “Mobster House”. And the eventual reveal is that each of the haunted condos, much like an organized crime family, defer to the authority of their boss: Donna Constance. Y’see, her soul was briefly put to rest when the Monster House was destroyed. But since the condos went up, her remains are yet again entombed within the firmament of a domicile, so she’s back and madder than ever.

Monster house 2: lake house. Dj and what’s her face buy a lake house in a well to do neighborhood, unaware it was built on a lake the mafia used to do the ol’ cement shoes to the snitches. They gradually come to realize that they aren’t just dealing with a monster house but a monster block, with a monster dock and monster lake. At some point they also learn that Jimmy Hoffa was buried at the old Giants stadium, making it a monster stadium. If you retcon the first movie to take place in the 90s you could even have the monster stadium and the monster block fight like kaiju

So I have a funny story connected to this movie. When I was a kid I once found a vhs of beetle Borgs when this came out and I saw three kids on the back of the vhs. The thought process in my head at the time was “ah yes of course, the live action monster house”. For the courage the cowardly dog episode the one that really fucked with was the spirit of the harvest moon episode. House attacks the kids. Well do I remember Howl's Moving Castle Doctrine, aka get-the-fuck-away-from-my-jeep. Speaking of Ed being on a poster in Monster House, there was also a British television puppet who was a duck with a green mohawk, literally called Edd the Duck. He was also the official mascot for the UK during the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. I don't know if Ed intentionally modelled the Punk Duck avatar off of Edd the Duck, or if it was sheer coincidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if he WAS inspired by Edd the Duck. Confusing cigarettes for "ziggurats" made me think of a fictional brand of cigarettes sold in the Middle East. As for the whole "burying people in concrete to make monster houses", that kinda happens in Eternal Darkness. The big bad sacrifices a bunch of people to create a Pillar of Flesh (that's genuinely what it's called) as one of many dark rituals arranged to bring one of the Ancients into our world. Also, I'm pretty sure something similar happens in DUSK, where the pulped remains of thousands of people are used to power "altars made of concrete, fed with blood and bone", likely to power that portal that takes you to The Nameless City.
