Tbf I dont understand why Pdox wont make mechanized avaiable sooner. Especialy that Germany and UK and USSR had something like it already on 1939. SdKfz 250 (or 251, I dont remember exacly), Universal Carrier and T-20 Konsomolec.

@@MagicButterz most of countries were using horses through whole war. The only fully motorised/mechanized army was USArmy. But in case of game I ment more like "avaiable to research in 39" Germany, UK and USSR could have buffs to research time or ahead of time

That division is really fun to play but sadly only work when you have an strong Industry and play a major nation, you need a lot of oil due to the fuel cost

Was the alternative meta when motorized rocket arty didn't cost tungsten and with research bonuses had the same SA as SPG. But with new Howitzers stats and lower chassis cost SPG is back on top.

@@chicc73 you don’t need to know the exact numbers. You want as many motorized rocket arty as you can reasonably get away with. By that I mean look at the organization stat. An org of over 35-40 is ideal.

If you play as Lithuania, you are going to get insane bonuses for mech attack, defense and research. I got mech 3 at late 1941 and i stomped Germany and Axis without breaking a sweat. 42 combat with = 4 rocket trucks, 2 anti air trucks and rest is mech . 1000 defense and insane amount of soft attack make this division better than tanks.

7:00 keep in mind, Amtraks can't be modified, only renamed. Also keep in mind that because Amtraks are SF like Amp tanks, they are effected by any bonuses to special forces in general. Meaning that it's possible to stack buffs onto AmTs that Mech won't get and make them even more chonky.

The buffs in the SF tree of the research are pretty meh and SF bonuses from Military command don't make sense since you can just stack the more general ones instead.

I feel like mech's pretty important when going Mobile Warfare, your generals can only use the blitz and breakthrough tactics if all the divisions they control in a battle have at least 50% hardness. So if you want to make use of those, you can only add a small amount of mot to each armoured division to boost their org. Mech on the other hand help you reach that threshold (while also boosting org).

this is partialy true. theres 2 different requirements to utilise breakthrough as tactics and you only need one of the. as you mentionned one of them is all units have 50% hardness, the other one is having a skill advantage of 1 over your opposing general in battle.

@@sirundying Edit: never mind, was looking at blitz instead of breakthrough. Could've sworn they had the exact same requirements. You do have one detail wrong though: skill advantage needs to be over 1, which means least 2.

@@marthvader14 If you go to the doctrine tab and click the button for selecting a favourite tactic, it'll show you a list and you can see the requirements of each one by hovering over them. Alternatively, during a battle, click on the active tactic, and it ought to show you a list of all tactics available to you, the likelihood of them being used that battle, and the weights used for that calculation. So if your general has 1 or more divisions assigned to its army that are actively fighting in the current battle with below 50% hardness, it'll show 0% chance for blitz to fire. Lastly, you can also check the land doctrine article of the hoi4 wiki. However, I haven't any place where they stated what over 50% hardness actually means, had to find that out by testing it myself. And as someone pointed out earlier, 50% hardness is only strictly necessary for blitz (and masterful blitz). Breakthrough on the other hand can also fire if you general is at least 2 skill levels higher than his opponent.

Baltic countries get them even cheaper with Ford as a design company, something like 20% off I think. Lithuania also has a focus that gives it a 100% mechanized research boost. If I remember correctly you can stack that with a 2.0 years ahead of time reduction from the Ford focus (in the focus tree, not the Ford Focus), to get really cheap mechanized ii by 1940

Off hand, France, Poland, and Com/Nat China can rush Mech due to the focus tree. Poland right now is the best for it, since they can get bonuses to Mech, even more so if they go fascist, or get a 300% bonus towards researching it. IT's actually a viable move to start researching Mech 1 out the gate, get the 300%, and then rush Mech 2 before '40.

The one thing I really like to do is make fully motorized INF divisions. If you punch the enemy with tank divs and you support them with supply planes, these moto divs can capture HUGE parts of enemy country without the enemy ever getting an entrenchment bonus. In fact, the enemy is mostly gonna be happy if his divisions can retreat without being overrun. And when the time comes, start switching them from moto to mech. They are just not gonna take damage. And with the final tiers of technology, they may even attack on their own, without relying on tank divisions.

I feel like airborne units can be handy for cutting supply lines while you attack an area, potentially even capture airfields or supply hubs if your opponent isn't being cautious.

@@thegreatestdane8978 Yeah it's less against AI as they're not really smart enough for it to be effective but I think it could be used effectively against players if you can catch them off guard. Just cutting the rail lines in places would be enough in theory

I sometimes make a supermarine combo of amphibious mechs and amphibious Meds or Moderns, in a 40W division. I usually cannot produce more than a few divisions before everything is over, but if you really want to capture a seaport before the enemy manages to reinforce it with serious frontline units, this one always works. And sometimes it can even blitzkrieg the area around it to create a buffer zone you can use before your regular units arrive. Its ideal for tanking out USA, UK (if nothing else worked before), or Japan, or for D-daying Germans out from the coasts.

Actually in a division HP behaves differently to other stats- ones like soft or hard attack are mean average between all parts of a division, but HP is a SUM of all batalions. So we can clearly see that ACs are actually classified as tanks because they add exactly 2 HP to a division just like a tank battalion. I don't remember if it got patched, but their research speed definitely used to benefit from BOTH armor designer and motorized designer for up to a whopping 30% increase with best designers- this was also pretty tricky, because ACs could benefit from some attributes added by a designer (like extra armor, speed etc.), but not all of them, and I think the designer purchased later took priority and could prevent ACs from getting that bonus from a second designer(but the research boost was still applied correctly).

Soft attack and hard attack are not averages, they are sum totals of the equipment the battalions/companies add. The same is true of defence and breakthrough. About half the stats are sum totals and the other half averages.

I love Mechanized some countries with truck research are the best for it. You can also make them dirt cheap by making a new model and slamming down the production cost, add reliability to offset the decrease in reliability. A 40 width mechanized division is immaculate 1000+ defense even before your support companies like engineers, art (if you want), AA, etc. Logistics is super goo too to cut fuels costs. Edit: Also since you’re creating a new variant if you can’t max of production cost right away won’t replace your production efficiency. It’s nutty watching me only produce like 5 a day and then it immediately jumps to 10 and the production efficiency hasn’t moved an inch.

1000+ defence is a waste. Divisions really don't tend to be doing 1000+ attack to a division. Especially not one with high hardness. The defence should be replaced by attack in the case of overstacking as attack is still relevant in defensive battles. It's actually a massive waste because you really shouldn't be building a specialized 40w mech division for defence in the first place. The point of such divisions is to be your spearhead. Cutting into the enemy, taking supply hubs, encirclements, etc. Normal inf with arty/AT is perfectly capable of defending. And if your intent is a expensive, strong division to defend a chokepoint/point of importance, tanks are preferable as they're more capable of defending against the enemies spearhead divisions like tanks/mech than mech is.

@@pagatryx5451 yeah I don’t use them for defense specifically. I was more so saying that’s how high it gets at 40W. Attack depends on how much motorized arty you put with it I usually just do 4 and you see upwards of 360-400+ soft attack, about half hard attack five and tank if you add AA/AT, and breakthrough is smexy and they zoom just as quickly but are even better defended and much less likely to be pushed out from a tile you’re using to maintain a pocket.

My question is, does anyone find AC (Armoured Cars) actually viable? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's cheap af and good for suppression, but for actual combat divisions? In History they'd be recon or raiding vehicles, but that's represented by a support company... so...

In vanilla have no niche in HOI4. They're more expensive than cheap light tanks, whilst offering less hardness and equal suppression. And they have far worse potential for damage than light tanks. They also require higher numbers than light tanks. With the tank changes, they are frankly redundant now. The *only* unique thing they have is their high speed, allowing them to keep up better with motorized.

@@Storywalker4 Hmmm, I can’t think of much, but maybe they reach production cap faster? After all, armored cars are more similar to normal cars than tanks, which is something a civilian workforce would be much more accustomed to manufacture.

I made that division that consists out of 9 mechanised 3 armored cars and 3 mot.artillery it’s super fun to play with even tho I don’t think it is matter it’s still awesome.

Amphibious Mechanised is broken, as if when conducting a naval invasion the unit gets engaged in a battle, because of the way fuel supply works at sea and during battles, it will be unable to request fuel, and after approximately 1.5 in game days, it will start suffering from the crippling 0 fuel modifiers. This means it's usually entirely incapable to land anywhere that's even moderately contested, even by the AI, and absolutely can't land against a point a player might anticipate and build up, such as a D-Day Wall. Thus, what's the point of devoting research and production to a tech that can only fight for, at most, 2 days in the terrain it was specifically designed to operate in?

Hey, I have a question and maybe you can help, I don't understand why there's an option to give a tank the half track suspension, and at the same time there's the possibility of "modding" a half track by itself, there's a benefit to choosing on or the other? I know you can't make a halftrack division with tank production, but why make halftracks when you can make trucks and tanks? Maybe is a bit costly in production but it will have tank stats rigth? btw, yes, I did copy the question I left on the previous vid, but now that you talked about halftracks, I have more interest in the unit

for amtracks you also need to consider that units landing don't get supply so no fuel and if you run out of fuel those amtracks are useless for that landing.

True, but as SF they can get a bonus supply grace from the SF tech tree. Extreme Environment give 48 hours, and Elite Forces gives another 48 hours. Combine that with a Logistics Wizard and you can have a full 11 days of supply.

The only reason i dont use mechanized is because you cant use it as supply trucks. So you still have to produce motorized equipment. Imo that just makes it less viable.

Yeah same. I puppeted UK and france, made sure to take all european tiles. Forgot first about Gibraltar (locked me out of the achievement), then in a 2nd run i forgot about brittains and frances islands in the eastern mediterran sea and malta... and so on.

They can be, the reason most people don't is there are better options. Mech use fuel and rubber, which is better used up by Fighters/CAS. You get better armor and piercing by putting one heavy tank in a 42 width inf div than by having a 42 width mech div. So high armor/pierce inf (that cut inc damage by half)w/CAS, or faster inf(mech) w/double defense stat? Most go with the first since CAS is king and AI don't usually pierce.

Tried this. Used brigade sized formations to hold a front; ran out of fuel and got swarmed. Sadly Quantity usually wins out in hoi4.

It is not broken since usually Germany does not get enough XP to max out their doctrine before killing France time, they can get it for killing Russia time but not before.

Attrition is constant, doesn't matter if you're fighting or not.

Attrition doesn't apply in combat. Reliability does factor into whether you lose equipment from damage sustained in combat though. For the specific use of attrition in HOI4 Honey Badger doesn't know what they are talking about.

Mechanized were always OP. Doesn't matter that they cost a lot more at beginning, they are making that up with lower losses because of high hardness. And they are doing the job. The base truth is, you can't have more than 4 divisions per single direction attack battle. Well not more than 4x20 with divisions. So I don't need that many armored divisions, 4-8 have done the job with the France (for example). Just enough to punch the frontline. And tanks and mechs, can punch the frontline.

With more divisions you can push more tiles instead of pushing one tile harder. It's much easier to break the enemy line if you make several holes in it.

I noticed a short while ago that Armored Cars have more Breakthrough than light tanks. Do you think they could be better than Lights in the late-game?

Honestly no. Tank designs will basically always be more cost efficient than armoured cars if your doing it correctly. And CAS even more so. There just isn't a reason to build an Armoured Car at the moment and it's a little frustrating.

@@FG_Remastered Great question. Not sure at the moment. I'd double check to see roughly what HP and hardness they are at. I think the interwar light tank with the suspension downgrade is still comparable but its been a long time since I checked.

Wait you can adjust mechanized with exp? Mind blown! Edit: You can reduce production cost!!! There isn't another unit in the game that allows that through exp.

dude come on, I noticed this like a week after NSB came out on a side note, the real exploit here is that Mechs don't get the same speed maluses that Mot get, so if you have tanks you need to prioritize getting mechs in them for faster mobility, ESPECIALLY FOREST motorized have a **-50%** speed in forest, mech have NO speed malus in forest also pure mech divisions are the best source of defense in the game. If you stack them on a choke point (like Singapore), it is impossible to break through except with CAS. Having heavy tanks (heavy cannon) may be the exception, but heavies don't work across rivers or in jungles

Only if they have more hard attack than soft attack, and I don't think that's even possible if you like your organisation to have more than one digit. Edit: even if it's possible, if most of their army is focussed on hard attack, they'd be easily overrun by the most basic of infantry, arty and cas.
