The port must also be used to constantly charge the watch in the Apple Store on the interactive display models. If you notice, they don't have a standard charger under them, so there must be a cable running through the strap to the port.

Hmm, thanks. I didn't even notice that port. I'm loving my watch. Keeps me moving and my Personal Trainer is always asking me to check my pulse when I exercise. He thinks it's the best feature of the watch. Since I'm the 65 yr. old grandma subbie...most likely the only you've got, I thought I'd weigh in here. Oh, I have the small face with a green band. Just took the little port cover off there is a 6 pin port but you can't plug an apple charge cable into it.

I don't even use an iPhone but I think it'd be smart to make a band that the clasp was a male/female USB port so you could just unclasp it and plug it right into a computer or USB adapter, no need to carry a charging cable.

That's a service port. If apple wanted people use it they wouldn't have covered it up. It's extremely unlike apple to ask their customer to get a needle and remove that tiny easy to loose cover in order to get a special band to work. I would say that the reason it charges faster is because it's meant to be used by trusted technicians. In other words they can trust the charger to work properly and doesn't need the same safety standards. As well as bypassing a lot of things that could possibly break.
