hmmm.. I'm thinking I might use this to make a watercolor notebook with a perforated edge a little ways in so that I could tear off pages as I paint. That way the cover folding back would still be very handy. of course it means eventually my book would be empty, but then I could just cut out the stitches holding in the leftover bits of paper and sew new pages into it... think I might give it a try

No one could make it more clear. Your excellence is admired and appreciated. Listening to a book goes great with this type of project. I know you don't get as many views on bookbinding and I support your smooth self-narrated integration of the sponsorship. Hope others do as well.

I've been waiting for this! I like to make custom notebooks as gifts for family and friends and I kind of got sick of making coptic stitch ones all the time. I think I'll try it out this weekend!! Thank you so much for making this tutorial, it's so clear and well-made that I doubt I'll have any real issue making this.

Thank you. You explain the technique so clearly, at a pace that makes it easy to take in and with clear filming. The bonus is that you have provided links for all the supplies (saves time for the viewer), other tutorials and related videos for more info and the little blurb about the history of this technique adds interest. I have wanted to try my hand at book binding for many years, but searching for the correct supplies and tools seems daunting when I already have three main disciplines of art I work in (ceramics, jewelry and drawing). I have wanted to use bookbinding to create books of my original small art drawings, and like this technique but will look at your other videos as well. Again thanks.

Wow! This notebook is amazing! Congratulations for learning a new binding technique Jen! 👏👏👏👏 Just a few comments from someone that has experience with this binding style: if you make an even number of holes in your covers (6, 8, 10...), the ends of the threads can be both at the back cover. I think it's a more polished way to finish the knots. Also, when attaching the signatures to the cover binding, a curve needle like the one on the video saves your life. You'll save hours if you use it instead of a straight needle!

I messed up first time by forgetting the whole point of signatures and went through each and every one every time. Only when I’d finished did I realise. It was difficult getting the needle through all of them by the time I’d finished! The next one will be better but I have a lot of pages to fill with sketches before that happens. I did tape a length of narrow ribbon to the middle piece before I started so I have a bookmark. The other thing I learned was that you should clear a space several yards around you because you can guarantee the thread will hook around anything within range. Thanks for the video.

I'd always been afraid to try bookbinding, but this is WAY easier than I was afraid it would be. I've made my first little booklet, and I have lots of notes and ideas for the future! (I definitely need to buy a curved needle. I found an old upholstery needle in my sewing supplies, but it's a straight one. Those last couple signatures are tricky with a straight needle!)

Actually, you might be able to make the spine piece somewhat flexible with specific cuts (like what is used to make wood flexible), but I don't know if that would impact the sturdiness. Would be a fun experiment.
