Marjorie Reynolds worked continually throughout her long life, never a star but a fixture in movies and tv, an enviable career by any standard.

I have noticed that in so many of these older movies, that the parents of the young woman or man look old enough to be their grandparents...what's up with that? I'm 66, have a 39 yr. old Daughter and even a 12 yr. old Granddaughter, and I still look younger than the gal's Father.

You are correct. Parents of young people are usually in their 60's. And 25 yr olds play teenagers.

We are living in a world vastly different than then as well . Young men on a ranch or farm were considered more useful and were homegrown often into their 30s. Young woman in the average home were no Ellie may Clampetts. Women were raised to be the soft side and were not thought of much different than cattle in some areas. You would marry a girl far younger (perhaps14 to 17) and tie family $$ ... it was simple in that day ... tough to explain today . Already I am sure there will be many comments that are assumptions of my observations ...

@marbleman, I'm 67. My mother was almost 37 when she had me. She had 3 more after me. When she would go to school for my youngest brother, his friends would ask him why his grandmother came to the school. It happens.

They had numerous childhood and young adult illness...plus, many had physically tiring jobs. Push mowers, no automatic washers & dryers, lugging wet clothes to the clotheslines, hanging rugs and beating them, ....and many more things.

This is a feel good movie with some drama in the middle. I happen to like Marjorie Reynolds. She's just gotten engaged to her dream man when a former boyfriend shows up. Seems he's finished up his term in prison and wants to pick-up where they left off...and there by hangs a tale. Great fiance, great family and the fly in the ointment.

' A most incendiary piece of piquant crime noir,' once you stay with it, this reel moves as if you're strapped in the passenger seat, or a hi-end railcar. Mr.pizza earned some mad stripes for this one.

It's good that a neglected little feature such as "Secret Evidence" (PRC; 1941) can be conveniently viewed; but not so good when, as here, the print used is with washed-out visuals (at least the soundtrack is of acceptable quality). The PRC features, apparently, were not well-preserved, a rare exception being their 1945 crime gem, "Detour", which - if belatedly - has been restored to its original appearance! Unfortunately, while this studio wasn't given to turning out such impressive entries, their output did consist of entertaining fare, worthy of having been better taken care of. William Nigh, the director of "Secret Evidence", was a Hollywood veteran whose enjoyable motion pictures date to the silent era, his best possibly the Univeral features he helmed in the early Forties, his Monogram films being just as entertaining - in this viewer's estimation, anyway. Sincerely, Ray Cabana, Jr.
