Another rabbit hole! My mom's people lived in DeWitt county, Illinois (many settlers) and this Explore option opened up a bunch of stuff to look at. In I go!

Thanks Connie! Great information. Boy, I remember the old Rootsweb days, the message boards. Met a few relatives through the message boards and even some childhood friends of my Dads that were very helpful in my research in the area Dad grew up.

Thanks Connie! I’ve been bumbling around my family history since the 60s. But between family and job and life, it’s always been relegated to a fascinating and intriguing puzzle to get lost in when I had some spare time. Now that I’m retired, you are teaching me how to organize my “work” and fill in the lives my ancestors lived! When I’m be saved enough, I’ll sign up for more structured learning, but for now I’m enjoying the heck out of trying on all of the things you are teaching 😊

Still have the Red Book and Source Book on my shelf. Rootsweb accounts (for people who hosted/managed pages) are supposed to have or will move to read only this year -- no more updating/editing, just info for people who may still have old accounts there. Connie, I love your channel, and so appreciate all of your time and work that goes into your great vids!

apparently those items are in the pro tools and you have to pay an extra $10 per month on top of the world subscription that is over $300 per year.

Thank you for all the tips. I always learn something new and useful from your posts. I think I stumbled on the census tab once, and now I know where to find it. The "AI" tab is fun to look at, gives us a look into life at the time our ancestors lived. Now to put the tips to work! :~)

For those of us who have poor vision, may I submit to you a suggestion to increase the size of your pointer? Make it super large and choose a color that contrast with the filed behind it? Thank you

@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
Go to DNA Painter to determine all possible relationships. dnapainter.com/tools/sharedcmv4 Then through a process of elimination you should be able to figure it out.

Another great video! Quick question, on the Family Group Sheets, is it possible to print one out with it filled in from one's own tree? Or do you have to have the Pro subscription to get that feature?
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
I don't believe printing an ancestors profile is a Pro Tool. You can simply go to the ancestors profile, click on tools, print, upper left click Customize, and you can choose what to print.

You always mention something I've forgotten. Every year Ancestry has a new way for people to screw up their tree.
@LanceHall10 ай бұрын
Lol so true. They made a mistake adding Geanet data to hints. I've look at that data and I'm sure it has steered many tree wrong. I wish Ancestry would just focus on nothing but real records and indexing. Also of course a chromosome browser as part of the higher tier.

I wish we could toggle on and off the Explore. It’s in every fact on the timeline and I feel it junks it up. ☹️
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
This feature is in Beta. That means you can send feedback directly to the developers. Sometimes there is a feedback button in Beta features. If you see one, send them your suggestion. I tried to do this under Explore but I don't see the feedback button. Perhaps you can find one somewhere else in the system. You can also try drilling into the Contact Us page in the support center.

@@GenealogyTV Thanks. I didn't realize it was Beta. I'll do that.

Connie, is there any way on Ancestry to restrict hints to direct ancestors without seeing hints for their siblings and children? Thanks!
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
Not exactly. There are a few little filters to turn off things you have already seen, but I think that is part of the pro tools.
@Red__Penguin10 ай бұрын
Just wandering, How far back do you think you can go without DNA testing, is the 1500s possible?
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
Sure. It just depends on the documents that have survived.

Connie, is there any way to generate a fan chart automatically for a specific person other than oneself? I would like to generate fan charts in which the root person is not myself but each of my great grandparents. Is there any way to do that other than typing these up manually?
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
Yes. On Ancestry... go to tree, fan chart view, hover over the person, right click and choose view tree. That puts the ancestor into the center. Then on the left side three dot menu, click print. From there you can choose to export it to your printer or to a PDF file, etc. Alternatively, you can export your tree to ChartMasters. You will pay for a family tree there... but I've seen them at conferences and they are beautiful. If you go there, tell them I sent you. :)

Completely forgot about the message boards. Thank you for that reminder. The Red Book from Rootsweb, is that information different than what we find in the family search wiki?
@GenealogyTV10 ай бұрын
I see the Red Book in the FamilySearch Catalog, but you can't view it unless you at the FHL (to the best of my knowledge). On RootsWeb you can read the text of the book like a website.
