The perfect kick drum is a kick from people like so much they throw millions ask you to come here your kick drum Change my mind
@dawatcherz Жыл бұрын
what i was wondering and didn't get an answer to in this video is whether the three parts of the kick have the same root note, maybe even the same note but in different octaves.
@13Skribbles Жыл бұрын
@@dawatcherz there are two types of kicks. Tonal which means you can actually hear a tone because of the body of the kick sustains one pitch. If the kick drum changes pitches then it is considered an atonal kick drum. Meaning there is not one note the kit covers several different notes as it either pictures up or pictures down Those are pretty much a neutral kick it will fit with any mix at that point you have to worry more about the transient and the tail off but the tone would fit with almost any key

Great tutorial! I love this channel! You skipped over one important trick though: Using kicks that are a 5th or 4th away from the root note. This works really well for songs in the keys of A, B and C. If you have a song in A, I highly recommend trying out kicks tuned to E. Much more body and bass.
@EDMTips Жыл бұрын
Love it! Great tip 👍🏻
@blackmateriaofficial2383 Жыл бұрын
@@EDMTips Yes, while tuning your kick is useful, having it to the fundamental of your track can be counterproductive and not give the best results, as the potential for phase problems actually increases. Just tune by ear to what sounds right/sits well. actual pitch is irrelevant.
@citybikingmusic60911 ай бұрын
This is what he should have done when he said "tuning the bass doesn't work" at 15:42. The kick should probably be as close to the original pitch as possible, so adjusting a 4th or a 5th away from the identified fundamental would most likely work here.

Version 3.0, just discovering for the first time ever one of the biggest tools used to make electronic music , the DAW , ahh, memories of bad sounds, overlapping copy pasted loops, Causing massive gain randomly throughout the song lol. Still, it's been roughly 20 years but I'm still always getting advice and tips whenever I can, can't get complacent, especially with how many tools that are available today. Great video. I will say , hearing the words: "there is no such thing as a perfect kick" -coming from an experienced musician, brings me a strange sense of relief. it's so easy to get overwhelmed about details so tiny that you end up having to walk away for awhile to clear your mind, like trying to smell multiple samples of a cologne that smell almost identical , until they just smell exactly the same. Not sure if that's a weird example, but that was my best attempt at a comparison 💢💫

good content there. The best punching through songs i have done where done with kick 2. No Samples. I went years long through the process you explain here. With kick 2 i have not only tha raw unprocessed Waveform.. but also full control over envelopes and pitch. Also it is worth mentioning that very seldom kick 2 could deliver a perfectckick on its own.. so i use white noise transients.. and pretty heavy eq and controlled distortion.. this of course is not for every one as it involves tweakin and experience.. but you know... i need a kick to fit to my ideas.. chords basslines or synthlines.. and this is really tricky by choosing among your thousands of kick samples. I have about 10 Parameters i go for and tweak to perfection in kick 2 and this worked for me much better any single time... i give you an example.. in kick 2 you can adjust the Key of your kick in a way is not possible with a any sample😊

Both of your 'before' examples made me cry. The perfect kick is the one that works in the track you are currently working on. edit: i wonder how you begin a new project. lots of 'edm' producers start with a drum loop every time, others start with a bassline, others with a hook (from a synth or instrument). I vary each time depending on what it is I have been inspired by recently (i tend to make ambient/IDM/noise rather than club music). What about you?

Btw huge deadmau5 fan here off course but sorry 😁I tune kick drums . Or i chose already tuned kicks. there is definitely a difference with the feeling. I dont know how to explain this since it s not long enough to create pitch but it still makes a difference. I also tune every single perc or drum sample I use. hats cymbals. I tune everything. Again I dont know how it works I started doing it after a kshmr vid. but If i tune everything track sounds and feels much better. It does not have to be exact pitch but I def play with every single element’s pitch before I commit.

I'm musically on a different planet, but this way of thinking is really good, and when it hits the spot, mixing is the easiest thing in the world. I'd rather use 10 hours on sound choice first if I have to.

i think it is worth mentioning that the pitch needs to traslate well on all systems! there are many "pitched" kicks out there that are in perfect pitch on big speakers and than out of pitch on phones or viceversa.. for me this means that a good kick needs a pitch that trascends through all frequencies... be ot naturally or through distortion saturation😊
