Secret/Hidden Piston Stairs v3 [Minecraft Redstone Tutorials]

Partnoids! I'm back =D Today's video is v3 of my hidden stairs. KZbin removed my v2 model video and turned down my appeal, which is unhelpful and as far as I'm aware completely unjust.
However I decided it was a good excuse for me to go back to the drawing board and create an even better version of what I had! Hope you guys like it. =)

To fix this STEP 1: Place a second repeater behind the one he places at 1:36 going in the same direction. Link them all up ( including the new repeater. STEP2: Do not change the ticks on the repeater at 2:07 leave it at 1 tick. STEP 3: At 2:10 you place the repeater on 3 ticks. DO THE SAME FOR THE NEW ONE BEHIND IT. (3 Ticks). STEP 4: At 2:12 he sets the inner one to 4 ticks. Do the same for the one directly behind it (4 ticks also) Follow the rest of the tutorial exactly and this should work for you. If it had broken froma update this should also work for you.

FIX For 1.7.9 Build the system exactly as CNB has then: 1. In the pink circuit at 2:10 add an additional repeater behind this on 1 delay 2. In the pink circuit change the repeater behind the one CNB changed to 4 tick delay (2:14) to 4 tick delay 3. In the green circuit at 3:51 change the timings of this repeater to 2 tick delay instead 4. In the blue circuit at 5:09 change the timings of this repeater to 4 tick delay instead

To fix this: At 1:36 add an additional repeater behind it facing into the one displayed. (It will have no timing, leave it at 1 tick). At 2:09 he says that repeater is at 3 ticks (2 click) but it needs to be at 4 ticks (3 clicks/full delay). [This is the repeater that you added another repeater behind it in the previous step] At 2:12 the repeater he shows needs to stay on 4 ticks (full delay) but the repeater behind it needs to be changed from 1 tick (no delay) to 4 ticks (3 clicks/full delay). At 5:08 the repeater that he puts down he puts to 3 ticks (2 clicks) but it needs to be changed to 4 ticks (3 clicks/full delay) in order for the stairs to work. With these 4 changes the design is 1 block longer but it will work. NOTE: There is a bug with the game where the 2nd stair won't extend. You can build this in the exact same spot 100 times and it will never work. Move the stairs by even 1 block in any direction tho and it will work just fine (it is a bug with the game, not the stairs).

Like I said, there is nothing wrong with the timings. If you move the stairs one block in any direction it gets fixed.

Fix for 1.8.3 PINK CIRCUIT ONLY 1. Do not place the repeater placed at 1:23, instead, replace it with redstone. 3. You don't need to place the torch on the far right of the circuit (1:52) 4.Leave the repeater on the left, at 2:06, as it is (1 tick). Don't change it to two ticks. 5. Make the repeater on the left, leading in to the pink block, (2:10) from 3 ticks to 4 ticks 6.Make the front most repeater of the double repeaters (2:12) from 4 ticks to 2 ticks. 7. Make the back most repeater of the double repeaters from 1 tick to 4 ticks. This should give you a block swapper that works with a lever in 1.8.3

found a fix for 1.8.1! If your having an issue with the middle stair block not being replaced when its forced up then there is a simple fix with 2 blocks and 4 redstone. the 4th block placed at 4:55 ish doesn't get power so bring the piece of redstone that points to the repeater at the blue wool and make a loop of redstone wire up and point it into the blue wool next to the piston thats not firing (the 4th block of blue wool he places) NB make sure this wire doesnt interfere with anything else in the circuit, thats why i used some blocks to stop it connecting to the other parts.

Addon to your post: For anyone who is having problems with the second stair (the second stair would not change) I have a fix: Go to 1:37 - place a repeater behind the one going into the pink block. Set the first repeater to FOUR, and the second repeater to TWO delay. Go to 3:50 - that repeater pointing into the green wool has to be on FOUR delay. Go to 5:09 - that repeater has to be on THREE delay. I think that works. It did for me.

on pc, to fix the timing on the pink circuit, the original repeater set to 4 has a repeater behind it, set this one to 4 as well. Now, you must add a repeater behind the one that was originally set to 3. This repeater must be in the same direction. Leave it set at 1 and the one that was originally 3 needs to now be set at 4.

***Fix*** As stated in the comments below for the pink portion, make the three tick a four, make the repeater behind the four tick repeater four. In the fix, you want to add one more repeater behind the repeater previously set to three ticks and connect the redstone. ***Fix*** This is what I did to fix it.

I'm not any sort of redstone wizard either, but here's my explanation of it. Basically, when you place down a repeater to lengthen the circuit, you're also adding one more "tick" to the signal. However, when you right click on a repeater (moving one of the torches further away from the other) you are increasing the delay furthermore. It basically just saves a lot of space when doing larger projects.

I love your staircase. That is all there is to say. It is pure genius! I have made somewhere around 13 staircases now, and I cannot express how useful they have been. I administrate a semi-private server that was only advertised on facebook, but have built 5 of the stairs there. I have issues though, for WorldEdit doesn't seem to like the pistons too well. Keep up the great work, and don't ever let your dreams go to waste!

The flip flop works if you change it a bit: remove the redstone torch below the piston and put it on the adjacent side of the same block, put a block over the redstone torch and another behind the piston, connect the 2 block with redston dust (so when the torch turns off the dust turns on and activates the piston for 1 tick) and a block over the redstone dust adjacent to the piston to cut the connection between that redstone dust and the new dust that activates the piston

Awesome design, followed step by step. the only suggestion is to point out which side is going to be the front earlier so when laying out in already existing build, one doesn't have to calculate. Top notch tutorial, Excellent design! Keep up the good work!

There is a fix for this design, Adding an additional repeater and changing some timings makes it work but it is still subject to random bugs. If you build this in certain places in your world (as far as I can tell the bug is location specific) the second stair will not swap with the floor properly. 9 out of 10 times you can build this and it will work fine (with the correct new timings) but that 10th time the 2nd stair will never swap. The pistons just bug out.

Fixes for 1.7.9! In the pink curcuit change the repeater on 3 ticks to 4 ticks and place a repeater behind it. Go to original 4 tick repeater and change the one behind it to a 4 tick as well. Then in the blue circuit there are two repeaters - one on 4 ticks and one on 3, then one piece of redstone connecting to start. Change the 3 to a 4 tick repeater as well. Using this on my 1.7.9 Realm now and it's working fine.

Dinnerbone changed the delay on buttons recently, so the sticky piston shown above won't let go of the block it's holding now. You'd be better off using the locking functions of repeaters to bypass the need for pistons in conjunction with the t flip-flop.

For those of you using the Xbox 360 Edition, when trying to incorporate the T-Flip Flop into your Hidden Staircase, what is not seen in this video, is the Redstone Torch *directly* beneath the Sticky Piston, which should be placed against the side of the block toward your T-FF Switch, but the Redstone Torch itself should be "extending" from the block towards your Staircase.. So you place it, facing your TFF, but the Redstone Torch "extends" from the block toward your Staircase...

I found the solution. Set the video to 2:17, so we are looking at the same angle. Set the repeater on the far left to 4 ticks, and add a repeater (1 tick) right behind it (you need a little extra redstone wire it all together again). Then the two repeaters feeding into the pink block on the far right need to be set to 3 ticks and 4 ticks (opposed to the original 1 tick 4 tick). Everything else about his design remains the same. Hope that makes sense. Good luck ;)

try and fill out the walls with more of whatever youre using (for me, im using sandstone). after adding an extra layer of sandstone onto the side with the 6 pistons, it seemed to work. i think its the weight of the sandstone that holds it down and prevents that glitch. I've done this piston staircase 6 times and that last trick seemed to work for me

Another change (it costs 1 redstone less) is: remove the redstone torch below the piston, put a block on the back of the piston, put a block on the side of that block and 1 level down so you will have a block near the block with redstone dust on it on the side of the piston, put a redstone dust over the new block and a redstone torch on the side so that it will power the block on the back of the piston.

In one of the last updates they adjusted some things where they make some designs to make a super short pulse not work (like in this T-flip flop). I suggest you just search youtube for alternative T flip flop designs which still work fine.

Make sure your Blue Lane repeaters under the second stair upwards sticky (@4:26) is set to 4 (no change from video) and that Repeater @ 5:09 is set to 4 (from 3). Other than that, my stairs are facing N/S (top of stairs North) and work fine in single and multiplayer. Maybe a directional bug?

in pink circuit: in that circuit there is only one 3 tick delay going into were you replace the stairs so you need a 2nd redstone repeater in front of it with 2 ticks of delay and were you have the full delay redstone repeater going into the block with the 2 redstone tourches, you need to set up the first one going into it with full delay also P.S also in the blue circuit i found in mine in the blue zigzag part both my redstone repeaters had to be on full delay

OKAY! for all out there who STILL have problems like me, even after the solution from Tanja C. or others. Mine works with the repeaters on the far right going into the pink block with 4&4, but! you have to adjust the timing of the blue circuit as well! there are 2 repeaters, one is already on 4 ticks (remains) and the other one on 3. you have to change this one to 4 ticks. solved it for me. hope this helps^^

There's a much more compact T-Flip-Flop that I know how to make. You just connect a 1-tick pulse limiter to a sticky piston, and put a torch beneath where the block on the piston will be when the piston is extended. I'll make a video of it if you want. :)

If you are still having issues with this, follow the above directions, and at 5:12, put a repeater behind the dust that powers the blue circuit on 1 tick (normal) and another dust connecting it to the main power line.

So from its "default standing" after you first place the Repeater on the ground (known as One Tic) you must activate the Repeater *once*.. Switching it into "Two Tic".. This should allow the Sticky Piston to push the Wool into the Current, to block it, then retract without the Wool. Then when you hit your TFF's switch again, it will then extend once more, *grab* the Wool (or whatever you use) and pull it out of the Current once it retracts. =]

I'm playing around with this now. The problem is if you follow the comment instructions where you replace the repeater with redstone the last two pistons stay powered on and don't retract, so the sticky piston doesn't pull them back.

A time delay means there is a little lag from pressing the button and something happening, say you pushed a button and then a few seconds later a light turned on that means that something has caused the signal to (not stop) but delay

And for those of you who knew about the Redstone Torch under the Sticky Piston, but still could not get the Sticky Piston to "toggle" the electrical current with the block of Wool as seen in the video, it may have been a recent fix in a patch, but you must reset the Redstone Repeater that is also below the Sticky Piston (In that little "trench" with the Redstone Dust and Torches) to "Two Tics"..

C. Make a redstone dust circuit from the far right 'line' of redstone dust (the one that is outside the digged area and is next to the far right PINK block [minute 5:11] ) and lead it to the two repeaters you just added a moment ago. This worked out for me :) hope this help.

the two repeater timings in the block switch on the original one with a piston beneath them. the block switch he sets up basically. there is only one in that with a 3 tick(which needs to be changed to a 5 tick, making one a four and adding a repeater) and the 4 tick to be and 8 tick(making the conjoining repeater 4 ticks as well). This should fix the rest of the timings as well. 10 people have been helped so far ^.^

you can make this work still (red-stone timing varies on servers vs single player games). Take your stairs and floor blocks out of the system, flip the switch a few times and watch your piston move. The pistons for raising blocks need to be down first before the side pistons try to swap. Mess with the timing on your repeaters until your pistons are moving in the right sequence. Add back your stairs and floor blocks to the system. Only glitch i have is the 1st stair doesn't want to hide (swap back to floor block). My fix for this on the server is to flip the switch to hide the stair case... then double flip it, and it will pull the trouble stair back down and put the proper floor block in hiding the staircase properly. The problem with the comments on youtube is that its putting popular comments first from old versions of MC. Adding a extra repeater with 1 timing change is the most popular fix comment. This will not fix the build on the current 1.11... you'll need to play with the timing even more. My servers redstone ticks fast, i had to slow almost all the right side pistons down to 4 before it started cooperating. Good Luck! :)

My fix for this still works on all versions except the new hived windows10 / Xbox version. In that version everything works but for one piston not getting power due to Redstone changes. Currently working on a compact fix as it is awkward to power

Essentially moving the button One Block back as well, thus, again in theory, eliminating the malfunction of the Sticky Piston touching the Redstone Dust. And just add one more patch of Redstone to the floor, between the prior and your moving Wool piece, to connect to the Redstone Torch in the Center of your TFF "trench"... I added a repeater to the left side of first section. So that there are two in a a row. I think I dropped all of the timings down to 1 except the nearest one facing right. You might have to play with it, but once you have the first section working the rest will go just fine.

Yes when you make the lock there is a redstone output and on the stairs there is a lever connected to red stone, connect the red stone behind the stair lever to the lock out put red stone.

initially the second step down didnt retract for me so i assume i forgot a wire connecting the piston, but after messing around with the circuit for a bit i managed to get it to work, aside from my mistake it works perfectly

The only changes needed to be made are in the pink (block changer) circuit. 3rd repeater placed needs to be at 3 ticks. 4th repeater placed needs to be at 4 (full) ticks. 6th repeater placed (going into pink block under piston) should be at 2 ticks. Add another repeater behind that one and set at 3 ticks. Connect with redstone as normal. All other repeaters in pink circuit should be at 1 tick (normal).

No. The colored wool are just so you don't get circuits mixed up. You can use and block that is not reactive to gravity

Could you add the "finished size" to this? Just the mechanism itself at least, because I have had to redesign my setup about three times, due to issues running too far into my wall edit: size is 7x7x3 blocks, I just needed to dig some out of the sides to get the power to the six-sticky-piston set. Now that I think of it, you could just do block > redstone > repeater > block...etc.

I think you would want to use an x-or gate. I'm pretty sure that CNB has something on his channel about how to make a compact one.

at 1:37 change the reapeater to a 4 tick then add a repeater behind it at 1. then at 2:08 change it to a 1. then at 2:13 change the repeater behind the 4 tick to a 3 tick. then the one next to it needs to be changed to a 2 tick. then finally the repeater pointing at the piston on the right is changed to redstone.

i do. what you do is just, insted of hooking up the output wire to a piston door hook it up to were the button is supposed to go (get rid of the button) on the outside and then when you get the code correct you can go in it

Connect the 9 digit lock's output to a NOT gate, and then connect it to the secret stairs. If you don't know what a NOT gate is, just google it.

In addition, after just now experiencing a small issue with my T-Flip Flop (TFF) and everything I tried to relay to you guys.. You may even try pulling your TFF entirely One Block away from your Contraption. As you see it in the video, his Sticky Piston is resting *right* alongside a patch of Redstone. Which, in theory, could cause malfunction.. So, if you are positioned at the button of your TFF like in the video.. Tear apart your TFF and rebuild it One Block closer to your button.

You mean, in place of a T-Flip Flop? Sure! I'm curious, why would you prefer an XOR gate? Generally, I prefer levers over buttons when it comes to "hiding" switches.
