I swear I met this gentlemen at a local pond in NJ. Him and his friend. Had about 10 rods laid out with tons of different rigs. And I had 5 or 6 with all different rigs. All high end JDM gear. I had an awesome broken english conversation with them as we lent each other gear to throw. I had a rig I called a scoobydoo / scooby through rig...and he was fascinated by it. Said it was like an itchi gitchi rig (which i could never find) And I had another rig which was this exact rig which he paid very close attention to how it swam and fell in the gin clear water. I was out just testing some new setups and after about an hour or two, headed back to my truck......And there was a Toyota Tundra with a full bass tourney wrap next to mine. This was about 10 years ago

Title should be changed to "Korean Bass Fishing Technique". Shin's own words.
@junjo72515 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear about the rig and wanna thank Shin Fukae for the description of free rig first. As he mentioned, this rig is the most popular rig in South Korea. In addition, the official origin of free rig is from a South Korean professional bass fishing angler, his name is Kim Sun Phil who has been bass fishing over 20 years. There was a bass fishing professional tournament in South Korea in 2010, this competition became the starting point of free rig, he used it and got first place due to the rig. This is the official origin of free rig. I'm from South Korea and I truly love bass fishing. You might not care about where it comes from, possibly considered it as from a country in Asia and the most popular country is Japan to you. But, to me, it sounds like Texas rig is from Mexico (doesn't even make sense tho). As a fan of this channel, I just want to ask you to fix the title of this video and the wrong information or to pin this comment on top please.

That ring on the weight has far less friction than a bullet weight. It will fall much faster because less friction. It works. There’s a pretty big difference in that and Texas rig. You can work the bait straight down and it’s great for finicky clear water bass

Angler Andy I think he meant spinning reel setup. Doesn’t work so well with a weighted bait. Something very slow sinking and weightless.

The free Rig is a preparation made in South Korea. I think the title of the video is explained as a preparation made in Japan. I think many people will misunderstand the preparation made in Japan. I'd appreciate it if you could revise the title.

Like a Lindy Rig without the barrel swivel. It would probably work great with ZMan and getting their buoyant plastics to sink slowly by inserting nail weight.

At 3:42 when he says this must be cast on " slack line " what does he mean ? Im confused
@thebassuniversity5 жыл бұрын
He means don't reel your line up tight after you cast, leave a big free-hanging bow in your line so that the weight will drop quickly, but the bait will not.

It's a cylindrical weight and eyelet folks, drops way faster, and easier down a line then threw half inch of bullet weight. A t-rig/Carolina rig wont allow a bait to fall as long as this. I will have my bait 10+ feet off the bottom throwing this rig

If you slack line a Texas rig it will fall straight to. I like how these Japanese guys come over and " invent" new techniques im 45 and was fishing a dropshot for panfish when i was 5. Wacky rigging at 10, we just called it a center hook worm. O well
@mrmisterman9995 жыл бұрын
give me a break this is just an un-pegged texas rig. You dont use a bobber stop on your weight.
@cocorkiller23225 жыл бұрын
Not a bullet weight bub.. the eyelet slides wayyyyyy easier with a cylindrical drop-shot weight then through a half inch of bullet weight. Texas rig almost never does that much drop without the bait following.
@FilipinoBMW5 жыл бұрын
But wouldn't the larger diameter of that sinker used in his demonstration allow it to fall faster and more freely away from the bait vs. the bullet weight for T-rigs? The smaller diameter of the bullet weight hole in theory, would catch the line within it at any angle and drag the bait down. Once on the bottom, whether it is the free-rig or t-rig, then action would be similar. Looking at this, I think the biggest element is the lure choice. A Z-Man soft plastic with it's high buoyancy, or even a ringworm or something that can trap a lot of air, should make this rig tantalizing.
@mike26875 жыл бұрын
Same premise but there's greater friction for the line traveling through the entire bullet weight vs the shorter (and wider opening) of the drop shot weight providing a much more exaggerated action than with the bullet... it's the difference between putting 1/2" rope into a 2' section of 3/4" PVC vs sticking it through a 5" PVC that's .5" long. The action would be the same but the level of friction would be night and day.

But the ring has less friction than a line thru weight. It will fall down a slack line much faster and easier. Then you work the bait straight down to the bell sinker.

This rig has been around since the 50's or 60's. Not new in any way, shape, or form. It's a tear drop, or a bass casting sinker. Those have been around for ever. A drop-shot rig is a bonafide 3-way rig. The Tokyo rig is a bonafide 3 way rig. Weight on bottom, lure above, suspended. I call a spade, a spade. Fish marketing at it's best here.
@thebassuniversity5 жыл бұрын
These rigs may use similar equipment, but your assertion is not accurate. Just because the components have been around does not mean that you're dialed into the technique. For instance, when I started fishing a dropshot back in the early 2000's, I had little information other than what you've written here. A friend told me exactly where he was catching them with a dropshot on Lake Wylie. He described: weight on the bottom, bait about a foot above. As a result, I was fishing 14lb. line and an EWG hook. I fished the area thoroughly, not even a bite. Then a friend of Aaron Martens told me, no, this is a "finesse technique". Growing up at High Rock lake, I had little use for "finesse techniques", so I did my research. After dropping to 8lb line (which I thought was so flimsy, I was going to break off every fish...I had not learned that I don't need to set the hook like Roland Martin in 1978 while shiner fishing with a 5.5' glass rod) and a tiny octopus hook with a 4" worm, I returned to the same place and absolutely crushed 3lb. largemouth. So, no, these rigs are not all the same.

It’s an effective way to catch fish but lets give credit where credit is due. If he’d not mentioned Korea you would have given full credit that it was a Japanese technique. If a Japanese introduced a Mustang to a person who was unfamiliar and it was accepted as a Japanese car, Americans would freak out. Not on a same scale but same in theory.
