I actually find the contrast between 621 Raven and Pilot John quite interesting. For one, 621 for most of the game seemed emotionally detached from the rest of the world due to the injuries suffered from Coral augmentation, only concerned about the job, nothing more. John however just seemed mentally and emotionally imbalanced. And while Raven towards the end of their journey fought for what they believed was the right answer, John here killed because he wanted no one to be like him and potentially better than him, a near Iguazu-like mentality. Both are unstable and yet behave drastically different.

Both are 'hounds'. 621 simply follows the voices of Walter, Ayre, or AllMind depending on play-through in silence. Shrieker does the same thing; just doing what the voices tell him. The thing with Shrieker isn't so much pride about being better than the rest, but the fact that they believe they're alone in their suffering. When they find out they've been killing other augmented for the contract, this world view is challenged. At that point, do they decide to accept this view and that they've killed multiple of 'their people' for the handler? Or do they reject it, clearing out the evidence and telling themselves that the pilots were nothing like them? In the episode they took the blue pill because it's they easy way out for someone with so much drugs in their system. I love the character arc, made it even better to watch.

We never see or know how 621 reacts or feels about anything he does or that happens. I personally don't see anything different than what Iguazu does and the Fires of Raven ending. At best we're just assuming he does what Walter asks him so he can get out of slavery and get enough bread to reverse his augmentation. He's clearly willing to kill ANYONE that keeps from doing that and keep in mind Iguazu wanted the same thing. Whether 621 is capable of sociopathic monologues remains to be seen because we never hear a word 621 says. I personally think John is a fleshing out of what life as an augmented merc really is.

@@kaliduncanel3356 That may be true for the Fires of Raven ending, but then there’s the Liberator ending, where what we can assume is that 621 chooses to stay augmented and assist with Ayre’s wishes to find a future between mankind and Coral. But I do agree with you, Secret Level has definitely fleshed out just how messed up and dangerous the life of an augmented human can be.

Far I can guess is that this episode is way after AC6 AllMind's ending. He could be a rubicronian but he wasn't born during the period the 621/Raven was on the planet and the Raven tattoo on the pilot's back and painting on the AC is more like a child like behavior trying to live up to become a legend like his idol he heard tales when growing up.

The guy in the bar who calms down the attacked patron is voiced by Temuera Morrison of Star Wars and other fame. My favorite part of the whole animation is the human side of things. It's exactly how I imagined it, heavily cyberpunk inspired with lots of augments for AC pilots. The cockpits are also fascinating as its built to link with the augments to assure they don't combust to the G forces of the ACs, with breathing apparatuses and stimulants being discharged into the body. The scanner is also interesting as it seemingly links to the eyes and ID of the pilot, that once connected, essentially puts them in the machines point of view so they can navigate and see. Some other interesting things mentioned in the conversations between John and his Coral lady friend are that some AC pilots can remotely link two ACs together to control them at once, pilots can be augmented even further and further, and of course ACs being all machine with no pilots. Overall this episode was an absolute blessing and there's so much cool world building for AC6! It makes me almost want to see some humans in the future AC6 DLC/Future game

The thing I like about armored core mech is that they usually operate like jet or planes which when you think about it, it’s quite rare in Mecca usually the other tanks for western shows or just really large humans with the way they move but the armor, cord, designs and movements are quite unique

One thing of note that i noticed is how the shield and blade of Shrieker were used at the same time in one moment, with the blade in the right hand instead, but, so many other things in the ACs and lore, weapon and parts designs as well, were accurate to the game. That one specific thing: melee being normally not equipable in the right hand, being changed for Secret Level, makes me think the devs of this might've played AC6 and had the thought "if only we could Dark Souls this with shield and blade".

I haven't watched the episode yet, but hearing about how the augmentation works reminds me of the Alaya-Vijnana System from Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. The Alaya-Vijnana System is a neural-link system between the pilot and the Mobile Suit(mech), and pilots have to undergo a dangerous surgery to use said system.

Anyone remember an enemy in arena of Armored Core 3 Silent Line? One of it called Nameless. Only comes up after we beat all of the other arena AC. Its the last arena foe, and his lore is told as mysterious background. "An enigmatic pilot who keeps to himself and maintain a low profile. He has never participated in the Arena before, but for some reason, decided now was the time. To judge him solely by his rank is a mistake." -in game explanation. We also fight Nameless in tag team battle with Mobius, the best S rank in arena, in 2v2. Its the last pair we fight there. I'm so in, if this character played by Keanu.

Soooooo is anyone gonna point out that the Voice is played by the same actor as Ayre? No joke, IMDB has her labeled as 'Ayre' and she's listed as 'The Voice' by both Amazon and IMDB. It's super weird and has some odd lore implications, buuuuut it might also explain how Ayre knows exactly what 621 is within moments of contact. It could also be that all Coral Mutations have the same voice, which is VERY strange but would explain why this mutation is a lot more (seemingly) manipulative as opposed to Ayre's more (mostly) caring attitude.

It felt like a 30 minute story compressed into 10 minutes, and the weapon bay compatible arm mounted pulse shield makes rectreating Shrieker in-game a pain since its obviously impossible to do that. But gripes aside... the action was great, the tone of the story and the darkness surrounding human augmentation and how augmented pilots are treated was great. I just wish it was longer.

probably a former doser; that combined with older gen augmentations likely led them to making contact in a similar way to Dolmayan's connection with Seria - john here just hasn't gotten that far along with his talks with the coral consciousness... however, its own... _interesting opinion_ given at the end is something that doesn't line up with how Ayre acts, but at the same time, both she, Seria, and the unnamed CWM portrayed are separate minds; it's entirely possible someone with a more passive-aggressive existence than V.VIII Pater managed to get the winning scratcher ticket from hell and now has a pile of sentient dust who thinks killing human pilots is a good thing talking inside the pilot's head, but that's a big damn reach filled with gargantuan assumptions.

Ok I have a theory about the ending or more importantly of what just happened. I believe that augmented human said "help me" I think he meant by can you please put me down or something like that. I went to rewatch the episode and I noticed that the target or the bold augmented human technically was bleeding to death. And when he said "help me" that's when the main character realising he's asking to die not to mention the bold augmented human even guided the finger of the AC to the side of his own head it's not really a villainous act if the the individual wasn't going to survive. But then again that's just my theory. Not to mention the "target" in question was in a bad shape and doubt would have survived and since augmented humans are pretty much a weapon of war is safe to assume that you don't want this type of human into the wrong hands, as our main character nearly got wiped out by five of them.

@@GREEN_KNIGHT3 which comes to my second guess I don't think they could have done it so they needed a pilot who had very similar augmentation to do the job. But then again this is a roughly 12 minutes episode and the last three minutes are just credits. Also the fact that they didn't even try to kill the main character says a lot. But I guessed they wanted him our main character to kill them as well. Either way this episode alone would have to be the gruesome one I watch all the other episodes and then nothing compared to this. All the other episodes have bloodshed which is pretty obvious but as soon as I saw that scene from this particular episode, I immediately felt a bit sick which is surprising. And it's even more surprising since we don't really see pilots out of their AC. I mean they could have extended this episode even more but then again making 15 episodes base around 15 games (well 14 games if you count out Concord) that's a lot of work. Either way this episode was great. I mean it wasn't perfect but it was better than whatever Gundam requiem for vengeance was supposed to be.

Nah. It's a moment that almost shatters his world view ('there's no one like me'). He's not someone that makes rational decisions (plus under influence of drugs, alcohol, and sassy ayre). Instead of accepting the new fact that there *are* others like him/them, they take the easy way out and get rid of the evidence. Taking the blue pill, in Matrix terms. It's not a villainous motive, rather it's similar to 621: this is a 'hound' and they may bite when cornered.

This episode however, is mostly heavily inspired of Armoured core 6 mostly because of the weapon parts and mostly the ACS.

My theory is that this episode takes place before the fires of ibis and that Johns wave mutation is the first mutation that caused the first collapse that led to the fires of ibis. I think this because augmentation was a very common and well known thing during the time when we play as 621and in the other AC games but the guy in the bar at the beginning that John attacked didn't seem to know about it, another thing is at the end John was surprised to find out that the pilots he fought were not only augmented but that the place he was sent to attack was making augmented people. So it seems likely that John is a C1, maybe the first C1 to survive being augmented, and that him and his team were apart of the first to try being augmented and thats how they died. Another thing that peaked my interest was his wave augmentations personality. They never said her name so ill call her Jane, yes I know its not original, Jane was cold, cunning, and manipulative which is different from Seria, Dolmayan's mutation, and Ayre. During the fight you can see that she does provide support but not only that she also eggs John on and even angering him on purpose calling the other pilots better than him at one point. She also never called him by name or by his call sign and instead just reffered to him as pilot, and then there is the end were she reinforces and supports him brutally killing the other pilot to make sure there would be no one else like John and her. Which I know contradicts my first statement saying Jane is what caused the first coral collapse but maybe she was just doing this to earn his trust and make John dependent on her so that he'll do what she says. This made me think of another theory, what if wave mutations are not only attracted to those who are coral augmented or dose coral like Dolmayan but also to people with similar personalities or more accurately personalities that would be easy to manipulate. Lets look at the facts, John from what we saw is egotistical, he thinks he's the best pilot ever and will do anything to prove it, he would even go so far as to kill and unarmed and injured man just to make sure that he didn't have any competition and like I said before Jane not only supported him but re-affirmed him in his decision. Father Dolmayan's mutation Seria supported him in his dosing even though it meant killing her family, and she also did push Dolmayan to cause a coral collapse but Dolmayan wouldn't go through with it since he was afraid of what it meant. Finally there's Ayre who compared to the other 2 was vastly different since she was never manipulative, Ayre was supportive of 621 but always pushed them towards thinking for themselves instead of blindly following orders. She did also push us towards causing a coral collapse but never as directly as Dolmayan described Seria, she also wanted us to assist and help other Rubiconians and even it even took precedent over causing a coral collapse because she saw everyone that lived on Rubicon as family not just the coral and SPOILERS if you did try to burn the coral again she would turn against you. To sum it up all three mutations we have seen so far were different in personalities but were supportive of the people they bonded with and 2 out of 3 of them pushed the person they bonded with towards causing a coral collapse so it doesn't seem that far fetched to me that Jane also wanted a coral collapse. This is just my take on this but let me know what you guys think.

I think them emphasizing the single red ember when John was smoking, was a reference to the coral dot representing Ayre. John to me 100% has a connection with the coral and one i seen that I knew he was on Rubicon.

The nameless tattoo if you really want to nerd out, can be considered a call back to Armored Core 1. Where if you become a Human plus you loose your original name and become Rebel followed by a series of numbers.

I've read the comments here and I think a lot of you are forgetting what John is. He is Human Plus, or at least part of the program. If you played the first (I know I'm old) AC much of what he does makes sense. First it is a contract, kill the enemy for money, he does that, contract fulfilled. Second if he is Human Plus then it makes sense he wouldn't want more around. It was a demented program that caused many to go insane or just simply die from the augmentation. The voice in his head could be a result of the program and his own psychosis, or it really is the core talking to him. I like to believe he is simply wiping out the program so that no others are made. However in the world of mega corps like in AC then maybe it will just pop up somewhere else and he will have to squash a few more heads. Personally I'd have liked to have seen Ravens mentioned.

I would just like to comment that there might actually be a connection between John and Nightfall Raven, as in AC6, Raven seems to be a callsign passed down from pilot to pilot, so John might be a predecessor to Nightfall Raven

2:05 also on the Photo it is written "Forged in Ash, we stand as ONE" so John Core was part of the RLF for some time Maybe he was part of them before the Corpos smacked the figthers Also the VA of The Voice is Erin Yvette, the same as Ayre so this pretty much confirms that he underwent under Coral infusion technique and maybe on Rubicon he made Contact I also believe that the blade being the rigth, instead of the Left, is because Keanu himself is left handed so he has customized his AC in an unique configuration

My theory on the different part load outs is that this is a different planet/continent, perhaps with a few differrent companys producing equipment and parts that are just not available on Rubicon. So maybe Balam has a good representation on this planet/continent but another company or two is rounding out the rest of what we see part wise and of course those company’ s dont have much presence on Rubicon as we know it.

So, while I like the idea of evil Ayre, I just don't think the voice is a "Rubiconian" I take it as an actual example of what Walter talks about with C4 augs and the voices that crop up in them. I like the more "traditional" approach of shield on arm and blade being able to be mounted on either arm. I loved the spread bazooka from AC3 so arm mounted Morley? Yes, please.

I feel like John could well possibly be 621 as he’s the only surviving augmented human we just don’t know if he was augmented with coral. Would make sense with how some of the endings for ac6 go as 2 of the endings leave 621 as the last surviving augmented raven. As well as him having a tech interfacing voice in his head it sounds a lot like ayre

Not really. Ayre says talks about the Coral swarm being her brothers and sisters. Meaning there is male coral. The simplest answer is that male and female protagonists are symmetrically pleasing as well as most operating systems, like Siri, have female voices.

The fact that the pilot is a gen 4 is pretty wild, makes me wonder if this pilot had a similar awakening event that 621 had, though him being a possible previous user of the Raven title makes me wonder what happened to him before, considering he's quite obviously not using Nightfall, I think it's possible that he's either the last remaining Raven who is keeping the title for sentimental reasons, or it's someone who was given the title, or like 621, someone who stole the title from another merc. Because unlike previous titles, Raven in AC 6 actually means something, which is why we were confronted by Nightfall and its pilot, the actual Raven, it's not like before when Raven's Nest was a thing and everyone was basically called a Raven, Ravens are a symbol of hope and freedom who know about them, it's special. The coral entity reminds me that there are lots of consciousness within the coral and not all of them will be the same, though with everything so far, it makes me wonder if the other augmented humans the pilot was fighting could hear her, and if they were all gen 4s as well. She also seems way snarkier than Ayre was, makes me wonder what her objective might be, since they seem so far from Rubicon.

It was a pretty good short, i personally disliked the ending because of how Shrieker made it more personal with that kill while most armored core fights are for a job or revenge in rare cases. This could be attributed to his fried brain but it just didnt feel right to me. Even Iguazu had a motivation for fighting 621, Shrieker just felt like he disliked the thought of someone being better. Also- where QBs?!
