Have you guys seen Astartes? It was a fan-made project about Warhammer 40K and was completely awesome. They brought in the guy that made that (by himself) and joined the team here that made the 40k episode. His style shows through.

The 40k episode was centered around the concept of fear and we experience that through the eyes of Metaurus, a Bladeguard Sergeant of the Ultramarines. When selecting for new recruits, he came upon a unique child, a child filled with pain and rage, a child without fear (Titus). While he loved Titus as a mentor might, he came to be afraid over Titus' potential should he fall to the corruption of Chaos. What would he become? What could that child he trained be capable of? Eventually, we see the Sorcerer appear and effortlessly dispatch each marine by entering their minds and embodying their fear, literally using their fears and doubts to kill them. The first marine fears that he could falter from some internal weakness, so his armor rips him out of itself and crushes him. Metaurus fears that Titus' nature will lead him to betraying him and his brothers, so the Sorcerer manifests as a corrupted Titus and stabs him. Then, the Sorcerer enters the mind of Titus but he appears in his form because there is no fear to inhabit and Titus breaks his staff which shatters it in the real world and stops the time freeze spell. The end is Titus refusing to allow his mentor and brother to die and dragging him out of the cave before the orbital bombardment hits to destroy the Chaos relic. Metaurus, likely dying from his wounds, remarks to Titus that they fulfilled their duty in completing the mission and that it is time for Titus to leave him to which Titus responds "not yet, old man." Metaurus then looks on in pride at Titus, the child without fear, and sees his true potential: a loyal soldier whose lack of fear provides a resolve against corruption and a steadfast loyalty to his brothers in the face of overwhelming odds.

warhammer started as D&D but with figures and army strategy, then other versions came out and this is one of the most popular that combines the space novel with the game itself.

Warhammer 40k is a sprawling series nearly as old as Star Wars that all originated from a tabletop game much like a sort of futuristic RISK. Over the decades, it has evolved vastly, but always retained it's ancient, yet futuristic depiction of the far future. There's hundreds of books to be read (anything by Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes top-tier over all) and dozens of amazing cinematics to watch, and hundreds more lore videos if you find yourself hooked, but otherwise unwilling to dive into the books or other shows on Warhammer+. I just got into it a few months back, I'd recommend listening to a few general Lore/Timeline videos, then just choose where you wanna start off. Once you get the basics, you can't really go wrong, and will only learn more the more you end up reading. Entire factions and subfactions can revealed at a whim, but so long as you understand the basics of the universe, you won't really get lost :)

For Warhammer 40k, I would recommend your next step should be the recent Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II, for which the 40k short here is a direct tie-in. It's very big on vibes, rather than on giving you lots of exposition, so it's easy to pick up the feel of 40k, and I'd recommend that kind of attitude when exploring 40k - there's a lot of lore, which can feel like a chore to engage with unless you're already invested.

So before the flood of 40k fans overwhelms you with comments, let me say you guys pretty much got the vibe of Warhammer 40k (Not Warhammer Fantasy). Its a terrible universe that no sane person wants to live in. The 40k franchise has been around for 30+ years, and mostly been developed through books. As of right now, there are roughly over 400 published books as part of the 40k universe. It is very overwhelming to get into, so don't feel like you need to rush into things. Based on your channel content I doubt doing a full lore dive series would be part of your plans, and you can probably just wait for Cavill's show. If you do want to get into the 40k lore, there are 2 suggestions you will hear from the majority of fans. Bricky and his 40k faction videos: Not 100% accurate, but very digestible and easy to watch as a newcomer. You get the entry-level knowledge without getting bogged down. Luetin09 and his massive collection of 40k lore videos: This is basically the University professor of 40k lore youtubers, and a well-respected veteran of the 40k community. His videos are a little dry and long, but very informative. Either way, the Space Marine episode was very cool and us Warhammer 40k fans are very excited to see new people enjoying our favorite grimdark universe.

For someone not versed in the lore I think she was very observant on Warhammer. There are many space marine chapters. Ultramarines, the blue guys, are kinda space romans. Warhammer is also a mix between ancient earthly religion/demonology lore mixed with future tech. Imagine a world where space travel has opened up the gates to hell.

1. Warhammer 40k 2. Armored Core 3. D&D if I had to pick. They were all pretty good though. Yeah, Pac-Man was an unexpected take. The Warhammer one though resonates very loud with me at the moment though because I've been messing around with it's vast and extensive lore. It's got a bit of everything. Orks, Elves, Demons, Aliens, Tech, Essentially Living metal Zombies, Space travel. Some of the races have crazy long life spans. So far everything I've seen is just nuts.

Nice reaction, love the commentary. I would say for a few of them, Warhammer if you want a good intro the youtuber Bricky has some good introductions to the world and Astartes is another good short if you want more of the Warhammer episode. I think my least favorite was Crossfire felt kinda generic compared to the other crazy worlds. My personal favorite was Xan from unreal tournament. Lots of nostalgia from the old games, Xan was like the big bad boss in the games for a relatively simple game of fast paced arena shooters so its cool they fleshed outside lore from the game into a great narrative piece. Glad you guys enjoyed it and look forward to you watching more!

Considering how little background knowledge you have about warhammer, you guys picked up on a lot of the context really well. The whole setting is essentially a new dark age that happens after humans have gained the technology to become a galaxy spanning empire. Thats why there is a real medieval feel to it. And for your reference, those enemies were all humans. The ones in the pit have been mutated by the psychic powers given to them by the chaos god they worship. But they were all once humans. Daemons of the chaos gods do exist in this universe though and are far scarier.
