Man those super spells bring back memories. I only discovered them after my bazillionth grindfest back and forth through the Mana Fortress trying to get the 9th sword orb in a random treasure drop, only to realize later the last sword orb can only be obtained through a developer "glitch".

I was always affected by the pretty stylish animations for the charge moves of the gloves. ... In many Japanese RPGs back then (and today) they did (and do) so many different things simply more than just right - great sense for storytelling (and for deep, highly interesting storylines, of course), motivating gameplay, really atmospheric soundtracks and also graphics/animations often above the standards of those times.

I never powered up the girl's magic all the way to the max, the others took much less time

I played this game like 15+ years ago and I remember that with the glove weapon sometimes piledrives the enemy and also a overhead throw.But I haven't seen any videos about this...maybe it was a glitch.

Nah, it's real enough, happened to me too. Thing is, neither the overhead toss nor the piledriver did any damage.

THis must've taken you a long time to power them all up. I remember when i powered a weapon and thought it was for all, but it was just for the one I was using, so forget that!

Hey, sometimes Evil Gate supercast summons a horde of Shadow Zeroes that fills up the screen. It's rare, but it does. Did that happened with you too?

There's a secret I figured out. You can get spell specials all the time by casting lvl 8 spells over and over again till they become level 9 spells then they'll go back to level 0 and you level them again to max. If I remember correctly you do this twice. When the Mana tree restores the seeds this is when the glitch or 'feature' begins and you can level spells over lvl 8.

that's not true... max is 8:99 the value behind the level indicates the possibility of the special effect... so for 8:01 you will rarely see the special cast, on 8:99 the special will occur on almost every spell ... with the special you will lose the spell stacking since the game freezes for a moment

3LektroN1ck It's true, least on the SNES version, not sure about the emulator they might have fixed it but my original SNES version went beyond 8.99.

I remember mine on SNES never getting past 8:99 and I lv'd every single spell to that point on both Popoi and Purim before going properly through the flying Mana Fortress. Maybe it's a difference between NA and EU version (I played EU)?
