Hello everyone.
Today's video is also about welding shrinkage.
I prepared two pipes that were fitted with a 3mm gap.
One will be welded in two layers, and the other will be welded in three layers.
In order to weld in two layers, you need to fill a lot in each pass.
Then the passing time will be longer and the heat input will be higher.
In order to reduce the heat input in each pass, the passing time should be shorter.
Accordingly, the amount of filling will be lower.
Then, the number of welding layers will increase.
I did this with three-layer welding.
What will be the result when two pipes of the same size and under the same conditions are welded?
In three-pass welding, the heat input in each layer is low.
Accordingly, the welding color will be bright.
However, if the number of welding layers is high, the welding shrinkage will be high.
In two-pass welding, the heat input in each layer is high.
Accordingly, the welding color will be dark gray.
However, if the number of welding layers is low, the welding shrinkage will be low.
Just because the heat input is low in appearance does not necessarily mean that the welding distortion is small. In today's video, the shrinkage was about 1.3mm in 2 passes and about 1.6mm in 3 passes.
However, this result may vary depending on the case.
I will introduce those things later.
Thank you for watching and have a nice week.
