It has struck me that Harry was saved from Voltemort by a mother’s love 2x. First by Lily’s love for Harry, then by Narcissa’s love for Draco. Voltemort had no concept what a mother will do for their child

Voldemort was an orphan (I think this is mentioned in book #6). His mother (Merope Gaunt) died when he was young; his father basically had nothing to do with him.

also explains what Albus tells Harry in limbo. When he said that Voldemort doesn't know/understand love. Suppose you could say that he was saved by love 3x. Let's not forget Snape and his love for Lily

Agreed. Snape was incredible. I know it’s silly, but I honestly teared up when he was killed in the book, and cried when the phenomenal Alan Rickman died. No one else could ever play Snape the way he did, he was perfect for it.

Not silly. Snape deserved better than he got no doubts. I personally believe he faked his death and is living quietly somewhere on a tropical island. He was a potions master so he probably had antivenom on him.

Note: Harry didn't need to hold in the pain from the cruciatus curse. In the book, it says that Harry braced himself for it, but the pain did not come. My thinking is that the Elder Wand wouldn't torture its master.
@Saruska323

I have also read a theory that since Harry was supposed to be dead, Voldemort didn't genuinely mean to hurt him, therefore the curse wouldn't be effective ('you have to mean it potter!"

My understanding was always that the Cruciatus curse failed because Harry sacrificing himself against Voldemort caused all of Voldemort's power to weaken. Essentially, Voldemort had no chance what so ever of winning at that point. (Harry even points out to Voldemort that none of his spells are working all that well at the beginning of their final duel.)

@@AustynSN Because Harry had intended to die to protect those he cared about the same way his mother had done for him and the reason why Harry had protection up until the graveyard scene . Before that Voldemort couldn't touch him or harm him. In sacrificing himself willingly to protect those he cared about he created a shield. None of voldemorts curses were working on anyone etc. He had done for them as his mother had done for him. Not sure if that can explain why Harry seemed to be immune to Voldemort as well though. More likely because he had the allegience of the Elder Wand.

Is it some poor people who hate them or is there some Rich people who feels threatened and so they need constantly be in vigil and threath every one with suspicion. Being loving parent is natural. And love is also not that straight foward some give kind loveas Molly so they children be happy. Some give tough love, to keep them diciplined and stong so they can survive and thrive.

Actually, I believe that It is true that Narcissa did not support the dork lord or his Deatheaters, even with her husband Lucius being a high ranking member, it was her sister Bellatrix who protected Narcissa and did not encourage her to become a deatheater. Bellatrix took responsibility for you youngest sister, after Andromeda was disowned for marrying muggleborn Ted Tonks. ... But Narcissa somehow knew that Voldemort didn't care about blood purity. He only cares about power. So by adopting a Pureblood ideology, Voldemort acquired an reacher army he could manipulate tonso his bidding. She knew that Voldemort was unhappy with Lucius' self benefitting activities in his absence and wanted to kill him. But by inviting the Dark Lord into her home, Lucius was spared but demoted in status behind Bellatrix. She bided he time waiting for a chance to save her family from the Dark Lord. Harry Potter was her chance.
@kyleethekelt
@kyleethekelt Жыл бұрын
Precisely. Narcissa didn't switch from the Dark to the Light; the Malfoys were on their own side and no one else's. This would be evidenced by Lucius' uncanny ability to worm out of trouble following both wars. Such people are dangerous and never to be trusted, as their behaviour in any given situation can never be predicted. Others of this ilk would include Peter Pettigrew and Mundungus Fletcher.

Narcissa was the most successful of the three Black sisters. Bellatrix...dead. Andromeda lost her husband, daughter and son in law. Only her grandson remains. Narcissa kept her whole family alive and by her actions had Harry Potter keep them all out of Azkaban. She was the smartest Black.

Once Draco was at risk, Narcissa definitely wasn't on anyone's side but her own. Snape wasn't anyone's favorite person, so going to him to save Draco really shows her willingness to use any means necessary to save Draco. She's definitely opportunistic after that point. I mean...THAT was her plan...have Snape protect Draco. Once he was gone, however, I don't think she had a solution beyond looking for Draco during the invasion of Hogwarts. Unlike the movie, Slytherin students were allowed to escape....and Draco did not. It seemed they were on a self imposed mission...but did Narcissa know that? It's possible she thought Draco flipped sides by staying, was captured, or was hiding...she wouldn't have changed her BIG LIE in any event. The lie to Voldemort assured access to Hogwarts, and access to Draco. And that was the end of Narcissa's goal. Escape, subterfuge, enlisting aid....was all up in the air. Narcissa had an interesting character arc...from her snobbish, hateful interaction with Harry in the Robe maker's shop...to whispering in Harry's ear asking if Draco was alive.

I have one question though: How did Narcissa ensure that Voldemort did not read her mind? Could she block it, like Snape did? Or did Voldemort in his arrogance underestimated her this much that he didn't even bother trying?

@tamarasmith9060

Yes, I feel that because her love for her child & husband were always her #1 priority then Voldemort felt no shift in her loyalty since he never had her loyalty. So then he felt no need to probe her mind deeply again, as he was certain he had her husband & son where he wanted them & she wouldn't betray him since that would hurt them. Also probing her mind again would be more time consuming & not visible to the other death eaters. It was quicker to simply cast the cruciatus & let all there see his power. So, in the end Voldemort lost because he had no understanding of real love or its power. Harry was protected multiple times by different circumstances going his way because of all those who cared about him & believed in doing the right thing even if it seemed suicidal. But twice a mother's love was the most powerful thing between him & Voldemort. Lily & Narcissa (& also Mrs Weasley when defending Ginny against Bellatrix) were strong examples of the power of love.
@Leto85

@@tamarasmith9060 'Twice the mother's love.' I love that sentense. Perfect. And of course. Voldemort simply didn't stand a chance to this invisible force called love that his nihilistic mind couldn't even fathom, yet alone expect to defeat him. Thank you for explaining this in depth. :)

@@dominicp9296 Voldemort was born when his father was under the influence of a love potion because Voldemort's mother was desperate for Voldemort's father's love which she didn't get from him. This means that Voldemort was not born out of love. This is indeed from at least my understanding the reason why Voldemort had no feelings. He was as empty as could be. Doomed not to be happy and never to become happy because all of his goals were channeled into the polar opposite of what love is: he wanted world domination. Men who want power will never have enough power, thus they will never feel fulfilled, not even when they think they are. So, no matter if Voldemort did or did not defeat Harry that day, he would have lost either way. Can you recall the title of that video you've mentioned? I'd love to see it for myself. :)

I feel like it's more probable that voldemort just didn't read her mind. He probably didn't think she would lie and was almost certain that harry was dead already. Plus he knew he would verify that by using the cruciatus curse on Harry's body. Voldemort doesn't understand love so he probably didn't think to consider the possibility of her lying to him in order to be able to get to Draco. Plus he knew she had no love for harry and blamed him for the disgrace and torture her husband underwent.

It seems like Narcisa was patiently waiting for a moment to take it back at Voldemort for all the humiliation he put her family through. She had a redeeming moment when she was able to successfully lie to the dark lord. But she didn't care for anyone else but Lucious and Draco. But protecting Harry as said in the video, was the only way she thought, Voldemort could be defeated. And I completely agree, Narcisa already didn't have any loyalty to the dark lord since he humiliated Lucious for losing the mission in the Department of Mysteries.

There is such a LOUD irony with that part you mentioned about treating Lucious as less than human, when the man and his whole family enjoyed the benefits of doing that back in the day with enthralled humans, and then again with championing the blood purity concept. Doesn't feel good when you're on the bottom of the totem pole that you uplift. Just as irrelevant and expendable to the champion of your beliefs. How fitting

I wondered whether she was a Death Eater or not, but in that case I think it's also possible that she also picked up a few tricks on occlumancy from Bellatrix when she was teaching Draco. Remember how Snape tried to read Draco's mind, but Snape said his aunt had been training him to prevent it?

I love this video, but I want to make a point that the Malfoy's couldn't have participated in the battle of Hogwarts even if they'd wanted to. Lucius lost his wand early in the book when Voldemort took it to try to kill Harry, Dobby took Draco's and Bellatrix's wands, when he came to rescue Harry and his crew, and Narcissa gave Draco her wand when he went back to Hogwart's.

I agree completely, but with one minor correction. Harry didn't hold in the pain from Voldemort's Cruciatus curse. There wasn't any. Harry was lifted off the ground and dropped a few times, but, much to his surprise, for he was truly expecting it, there was never any pain. Maybe this was Lily's protection. Maybe this was the Elder Wand refusing to do any real damage to its true master. Maybe it was just that Voldemort wasn't expecting it to work so it didn't -- he thought Harry was dead -- but regardless, Harry never felt any pain.

I disagree with most of the video, I bileave Narcisa disliked Voldemort because he himself wasn't pure Blood and only played along because he was powerful, her family (before marriage) and the Malfoys had always bow to power it was and is their way to mantain their status, She did in fact loved her family over all, which is why she betrayed Voldemort, who also had always wanted to belong to high society and Narcisa was on the top, having all those people bowing to him solidified (in his mind) his dominance.
