I've seen a lot of people talking about "the craftsmanship" and how "it looks like it would be stronger" but if you want to talk about craftsmanship and strength we should talk about how he just stacked tacks on tacks without cleaning them in between. More than likely The metal did not get hot enough for the weld to stick properly and there Will be plenty of slag inclusions that will open up when that thing is under any form of stress.

Here is why no welder talks about it or uses it: 1. too difficult to cut with simple machinery, so you need too much time for a joint 2.structural integrity, the reason both ends are cut to 45° if you want to reach 90° is that the forces are equally distributed throughout your workpiece 3. welding stress, since you weld on one side more than the other, the stress introduced due to the heat will deform your workpiece in an asymetrical way, which is what you dont want

Good welds don't have to be pretty, although that's a plus. My brother and dad were both good welders. I saw their work,and it put to the test. Their welds didn't look horrible, or messy, but they weren't pretty, either. I worked with them, and with another guy who made the most beautiful-looking clean welds that I've ever seen. They wouldn't hold $#!†. He made something for me, and one of the welds popped off when I tried to bend the piece a little to make an adjustment. Grinding the weld smooth is a good practice. The build up on the surface doesn't add any strength, anyways.

E nak you could just get two seperate pieces of metal create the curve in one end and weld them together. Personally if you use a plasma cutter its alot easier not as clean though there is some slag left. A torch is about the worst way because it heats up the metal and changes its tensile strength. Another way would be to get a machine and just simply bend the tube which can be done even with something round. There is one secret that welders wont tell you how to create a 45° without damaging the material in any way shape or form but I'm not giving that one up easy lol. Go to google you cab find it there.

This old tony has a really good video too on how to do the same thing, just easier. It’s in his welding cart series. Cool idea what this video did, I don’t personally see a practical use though. It takes too long. Mostly because I’m impatient lol. Also, bend radius and K factor, remember to take that in to account if you ever do what’s in the video. The guy in this video clearly knows his geometry and metal bending, or he got lucky lol.
@bonelesswhiskey28653 жыл бұрын
Side note- Im glad i bought a Wire welder, more often then not i see people with stick welders trying to get their arc to start, i didnt want that trouble, that, and im not a fan of having to buy packs of rods. A reel of 0.36 is all i need, they arent that expensive either. Another plus, i havent gotten my wire stuck to random metal like ive seen happen with stick welders. All in all, great video, and to anyone wanting a welder, definitely do your homework on what you want to be welding, your budget for a welder, and other variables. I will say my lil Lincoln Electric FC90 is a great starter wire welder. Lincoln Electric also has starter welding kits, comes with: Chipping hammer, paint marker, magnet capable of making 90 degree angles, gloves, fire resistant sleeves, and of course, a helmet! I highly recommend it because you can plug it into standard house power, no need for big ol plugs. Have a great day, and happy holidays!
