I have a much greater appreciation for this title in the series, today. It’s only been 7 years but so many important subjects are being discussed here between Skull Face and Zero. Subjects relevant to even our social and political atmosphere in America. And in hindsight, Kojima did an excellent job tying everything together. Notice Zero mentioned both Genetics (MGS1) and Information Control (MGS2). And it’s all based on his obsession to honor the Boss; her will (MGS3). To add onto that, it’s ironic when you realize that both of these guys are completely convinced they are the leading authority on what the Boss wanted for the world. But just end up perverting it and becoming control freaks. Meanwhile, Big Boss still doesn’t even fully understand what she wanted. He doesn’t even come to a revelation on the matter until his death knell in MGS4. More than anything, he just loved her and misses her. And I think that last gasp for “Jack” by Zero here, really testifies to who Big Boss was in this whole story: the real legacy of the Boss. The rightful interpreter of her will.

Same here, I can't get enough of it. The series always had its share of plot holes and contradictions but in V's case I think Kojima out right said that he didn't care if it meant he told the story he wanted. The 1984 reference to double speak, Snakes shrapnel in his head and Mantis create a narrative that just doesn't add up no matter how hard you try. The "Truth" is that we will never REALLY know who these characters are. A lot of the Fans who played 3 and PW sadly walked away unsatisfied since they understandably grew to love these characters as they interacted with them in 3 and PW but given enough time, I think people will come around. Ultimately V's cast of characters motivations and allegiances are constantly in question. Many of the facts given to us are shaky at best. Characters that lie have plenty of reasons to since the alternative is death, torture and imprisonment. "Honest" characters like Ocelot are a well-known sadist who is ALWAYS backing someone else. Cutscenes like the one where Ocelot tortures Quiet happen abruptly with Snake watching in the background are presented in such a way that I imagine most players just went along with it. Everything is alright in Outer Heaven, Ocelot has it all under control ;).

I also believed that the nameless SAS operative who once had the lapel pin is the reason why The Boss and Zero looked after Big Boss.

Well put. The game is full to the brim with reflections on the world, geopolitics, polity, and philosophy, and also about the more interesting themes from the previous games. It was indeed a worthy set off to the saga, an homage, a missing link (especially after MGS4’s milkwarm fanservice ending).

here is what really confuses me about this tape. at the beginning, Zero and Skull face are talking like it's a normal thing for SF to send Zero a gift, the moment the poison starts affecting Zero, he starts saying how did you find me!! and gets to the conclusion that Paz talked. like wtf, why didn't he question that the moment he received the gift??
@veronchung35806 жыл бұрын
I think Zero was assured by Skull Face it would be a sentimental gift for him. Zero was also confident enough in his security to assume that they checked it thoroughly before giving it to him, but the toxin Skull Face put on the pin was too nicely hidden, and only when Zero pricked himself with the pin that the toxin entered his blood and began to mess with his brain. He was so caught up in the sentimentality of receiving the pin that he didn't question it too much. This fits with Skull Face's assassination methods back when he was working as a spy and assassin, by killing people who are behind closed doors.

Can someone explain what's going on here? From what I understand, Skull Face sent Zero a gift, and a pin that was set to prick Zero's finger, infecting him with a deadly parasite. But what are the other gifts? Something to do with the Boss?
@Altair19046 жыл бұрын
It belonged to the Sorrow. Make no mistake, the inspiration of a united world belonged to The Sorrow and The Boss was influenced by him but she did not fully understand that either. We can go as far as to say that The Sorrow was the true big boss
@supremeworld874 жыл бұрын
@@Altair1904 the sorrow didn't die until 1962. This was the pin belonging to a close SAS comrade of Zero and The Boss, confirmed in the script to be Jock Lewes, one of the real world founders of the SAS.

How did Skull Face plan to have Zero prick his finger on a pin?

My guess is, since the pendant was a fake. He may have made it where you have to push a lot harder than usual for the needle to pop out.

was zero got infected with vocal cord parasite? the one with english strain?
@lalas1984 жыл бұрын
Nah, it was probably just another engineered parasite that causes paralysis to the brain's nerves. In another truth tape (the one where he visits a hospitalized Big Boss in Cyprus), he talks to a doctor and says that he got injected with something that caused problems "up here" (meaning his head).

@CGonzales0339 жыл бұрын
Cesar Flores I was pretty sure that according to MGS 3 the Boss killed the Sorrow in 1962 in the same spot where Naked Snake fell to after she threw him off the bridge down to the river when Snake was rescuing Sokolov during the events of Operation Virtuous mission which was in 1964.
@Tomtaw27148 жыл бұрын
+CGonzales033 he didn't die when snake was doing his snake eater mission, he died before that, when the boss and the sorrow where working together while on the war, she killed him because she had to, the sorrow had quitted and turned against the cobras

Tomi Rodriguez I didn't say that. I said that Sorrow died in 1962. before operation Snake Eater. it's a bit of an easter egg, but when the Boss throws snake off that bridge and you are curing yourself, if you move the camera, you can see his body at the spot where he died.

The most amazing thing that within this discussion I believe one can see the real vision of Kojima. A world where everyone is covered by a technological veil which changes the way people communicate making solidarity much easier through emotional communications through a decentralized network. I think we could get there and Kojima is a very forward looking man. Ghis world would truly be a possible Anarchist society but with peace and prosperity ensured among people
