I read an interesting scientific study about how memory can be tied to a specific space. In it, they gave people things to remember and had some walk a certain distance, while others walked that same distance but through one or more doors. Turned out the more doors you went through, the more likely you were to forget. That's why sometimes if you go back to the physical location where you had the thought it will come back to you more quickly. So interesting!

What a beautiful almanac. Not sure if it's pronounced the same all over the US, but in the mountain west it's root-uh-bag-uh.

I ask for that almanac every Christmas now since you showed it a few years back - even in the US I love it! I love anything about the moon so it’s such a treasure for me with that alone!

It's not just your area that's plagued by roadworks - it's the same here too, there are temporary traffic lights to contend with in every journey. And a huge project installing fibre optic broadband hasn't helped 🤷🏼♀️

Hi Ali, Did you know the Almanac has a podcast to accompany it? Its called And the Season Turns and it comes out on the 1st of every month. It gives more of an abridged version of what is written in the book. I listened it it the last couple of years. In 2022 they played a folk song of the month and last year was a found sound - a minute of nature at that time of year which I really enjoyed. One of them was recorded in the outskirts of the city I lived in and I had no idea we had a forest! I know you will be talking about the book tomorrow but I adored Wintering! I also recommend Enchantment by the same author.

The road in our town near the royal mail building with work being done keeps causing issues for our son going to and from college. Not happy they started in September just when kids were going back. 🙄

I bought The Almanac as part of my friend's Xmas pressie last year and also bought one for myself and I loved it. I've done the same for this Xmas. Do you read it all at once or throughout the year? I tried reading it on the 1st of month but this year I going to just read it straight off. Thanks for introducing me to The Gardening Almanac Ali. 😊

Oh Ali! I've just had the best few hours. I've been winding up my advent minis from Ellie at Craft House Magic using the back of the kitchen chairs, whilst listening to your Spotify This Little Wonderful Life compilation, which I love. Thank you. So glad you had a good works Christmas lunch, it sounds delicious. xx 😊

We called them “turnips” as children, but they are actually rutabagas ( pronounced Root a bag a)❤ 🇨🇦 Also, I just wanted to say that I enjoy these shorter blogs at Christmastime because I have so much to do that I don’t have the time to sit and watch several hour-hour and a half of my favourite bloggers, but I can sit in 3 or 4 ten to twenty minute ones. Happy Christmas to you and all your family including your Mom, Mia, and the Chickens. I too would like to hear your Mom read Auld Lange Syne

I made it once for my son and he requested it again... can't remember the name, the guy in the video, nothing 😢. Please, save me❤
