I forgot to mention when putting your key fob in sleep mode, you can simply wake it up by clicking any button on the key fob. You’ll need your key fob to be awake to start the car.
@717dash_cam3 жыл бұрын
Actually, you shouldn't need to even re-enable the proxy sensor to start the car. Foot on the brake, hold it up to the start button, the car will 'strum' and you can press the button as normal. The fob has an RFID tag inside, which is how you would start the car with a dead fob battery. At least that's how it worked on my 16 Legacy 2.5 Limited and 19 Forester. The process for disabling proxy is different though, so it could have changed; Therefore I will be trying this on my 22 Legacy XT Limited.

1. Hold down the "Lock" button on the key fob and simultaneously press the PIN entry button located on the beside the back license plate on the trunk door until the car emits a beep sound. This action activates the PIN setup mode. 2. Press the "Unlock" button on the key fob. You now have 30 seconds to complete the PIN setup process. 3. To set the first digit of your PIN, press the PIN entry button the desired number of times, then stop. The car will emit a beep to confirm that the number has been registered. Repeat this step for each subsequent digit of your PIN, clicking the PIN entry button the appropriate number of times for each digit. 4. Once you have entered all five digits of your PIN, the car will start beeping continuously. This indicates that the PIN has been successfully set. 5. To unlock the car using the PIN, simply use the PIN entry button by entering the digits of your PIN using the same procedure you used during setup.

I go surfing several times a week and cannot of course get water on the key fob. With older cars I'd simply put my old style keys in the rocket box but last week I purchased a 2024 Outback Limited and I can't do that so I actually was putting it under a rock 40 feet from the car. So I hope to become skilled at this task. Is it required that I deactivate the fob prior to locking the car? And I thought Subaru had a feature preventing you from licking the fob inside?

This one function has sold me on the Outback. I live in Australia and this vehicle is perfect for me when I go to the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking. Being able to deactivate and leave the key fob in the car, and use a pin code to get back in, will save my worry of my keys getting lost, or getting wet when doing those activities. 👍 Another MASSIVE plus for me, which I think you should talk about if you haven't already done so, is how the seats can fold down flat right through from the front passenger seat, to the rear of the car. Every other car I have folded the seats down in have always had the front seat fold down on top of the rear seat when folded down. The Outback seat can be moved forward enough that once the head rests are taken out, the front seat can be folded down flush with the rear folded seat, making an almost perfectly flat tray from front to back. It makes this vehicle perfect for doing an overnight camp in as well. And being able to deactivate the key fob also means I can lock myself in the car if camping over night inside the car without the worry of someone opening the car while I am in it.

This video was great bc I do a lotta stuff where I don't want that fob around. Alex calls attention to the beep that you get when you're setting up the code in your garage. But under "normal" conditions I rarely hear the beep in a parking lot. And the normal timing of a pause between entering the 5 numbers, like Alex does, works EVERY Time. PRO TIP: if you don't put the fob in sleep mode (by mistake/thought you did but you didn't) and you return and start entering the PIN the beeper will beep continuously on each press of the button if you can hear it. SOLUTION: Try the hatch first. Then enter the PIN if it doesn't release. For what it's worth.

If you have the My Subaru app on your phone, you can unlock the car with that as well; with only a 4 digit pin. That's what I use with my '16 Forester. My '22 Outback doesn't arrive until mid January.
@alexpmo3 жыл бұрын
Yep, you can also use the my Subaru app to unlock

Did it take very long from beginning to end. Did you order the vehicle. Some dealerships here don't have any vehicles. They say to pick what you like but it's not an order. Plus a deposit. If they get a vehicle with what we like they will call us.

Have you done a video on programming the height of the back gate on a 2022 outback?
@alexpmo3 жыл бұрын
I haven't yet. I plan on doing that for a future video. If you want a quick way to do this, you can open the tail gate, manually move it to your desired height, and then click and hold the close button on the inside of the hatch until you hear a beep. Once it beeps, it's programmed to open at the new height that you set.

Hi Alex. I have a 22 Outback Premium and it came with the usual two key fobs. Do you think it's a good idea to put my spare key fob in sleep mode to extend its battery life while it sits in my dresser drawer? Also, do you think it's good to switch out the two key fobs occasionally to balance their battery life over time? Thanks, and by the way, I have been happy with the 2.5 engine around home in Eastern Massachusetts and driving to the mountains of New Hampshire for hiking occasionally. Good luck with your 23!

This is a summary if anyone need it 1. unlock the car 2. click and hold the lock button on the key + trunk button 3. car start beeping, click unlock on key 4. enter 5 digit pin, after each digit the car will beep once 5. after entering the pin, the car will start beeping again 6. enter the pin again (wait for car to conform with a beep after each digit) 7. If you hear the car unlocks, this mean you were successful Putting the key into sleep mode: 1. click and hold the lock button on the key 2. click the unlock twice 3. release the lock button

Leaving keys in the car while hiking or doing anything else is just asking for trouble. Thieves break windows, and now they have the key and can take the car. Your name and perhaps address is on something in the car, whether it’s the registration or something else you left in there, now they know where you live and probably have access to your house via the garage door opener or a house key on the key ring. Don’t make things easy for thieves!

@@alexpmo it is because the beep is for other things, not this feature, which almost no one will use because it is super tedious to make/use a tough pin.

I just purchased a 2022 limited outback. I even asked about this function specifically because I remembered seeing this video when I was looking up things about my 2015. He told me that the older ones have it but they were phasing it out. So I just went out there just now. Tried it. And guess what. It worked! Don't know why he said my 2022 limited did not.... Oh and your explanation on how to program the code much easier than trying to read the manual

Salesman didn't even know how to unlock the hatch!BTW, none of this is helpful when your Subaru group 25 underrated battery goes dead. Common problem with the 2019-23 Outbacks and others.Class Action settlement happened last year. Look it up, it'so on KZbin land. You'll be shocked!

I've scrolled through most of the comments but haven't found answer. I understand how you put the fob in sleep mode and then physically lock the car and close the door to lock the vehicle, but...is there a way to enable the alarm?? Thank you!

Forester 2022. Thank you, this saved me when the instruction manual for Forester 2022 had a mistake in it. In the Subaru manual for the second thing you do (step 4) it says to press unlock "until" you hear a chirp sound instead of "to stop" the chirp, sound which had me beat!
@blakelypics3693Ай бұрын
You can also use the secret button to lock the car if you were standing back there ready to leave and don't want to fumble with the fob or walk up and tap a door handle, just push the rubber button once and all the doors will lock from back there. 2017 outback.
