Thanks for sharing. I assume you didn’t have any spare standard weave to match the original carbon. It probably would have looked better than the twill, but nice job. I like the use of the quick and easy mold!

Andrew Trossman Thanks I really appreciate that🤙unfortunately after covid, for some reason it's very difficult to find different carbon weaves and it's price has raised up to the stars. That's the best technique I developed through many years of experience. It not really something new. Having a diploma in dental technology I just applied to surfcrafting an old technique used for molding dentures. Please leave a comment under the video on YoiTube🤙

OK, the result is fine, but seriously ? All this mess for so small damage ? A "pro" would never do that… Look, you've made a mold (!) you've used 2 layers of carbon and 1 layer of fiberglass BY SIDE ? And sanded, what, 98% of it all at the end ? Don't you think it was easier, faster and as strong to use a piece of tape under the mast, then laminate 2 or 3 carbon strings, and same on the other side ?

Hi Tetrakite, and thanks for reacting to my video. If you watched the whole video it's clearly explained why. When doing a repair, especially on a carbon composite it's very critical to evaluate the mechanical stress the part is exposed to. In this case we are talking about a mast, super stressed with leverage and vibration. When glassing a carbon composite it's so important to keep the fibers as close as possible to eachother to obtain a very stiff material which would resist to consistant stresses. If not pressing it properly the repair would result to weak as there would be too much resin trapped within the carbon fibers. The part could face a sudden failure representing a serious risk for the rider. That's why they use autoclaves and prepeg materials in the big industry.. To reach the necessary pressure in a normal lab, clamping is so necessary. Hope I made a clear explanation, stay wet🤙

@@TheSurfamilySchool 100% agreed. BUT the question here is : Was your method of repairing worth it ? And my idea, having seen this little chip and assuming the strength of the mast wasn't compromised, was you'd killed a flea with a bazooka. Regardless, it's up to you and your repair is nice.

@@tetrakite It's also mentioned in the video that the fiberglass is not structural, but it only helps to don't let the resin drip off. I see your point and I would have said the same if I haven't been doing this for over 20 years. Chipped, cracked, snapped carbon is a proper m....... r man and there is only one way to avoid problems. Anyway thanks for your clever question iand maybe keep on following my next videos, 🤙Mahalo

Too much in my view. Add way too much material first. Later sand into the original mast carbon and last add epoxy with finger and tell not add too much cause sanding take forever. Maybe if you have a month without wind you can do like that. And most importantly you did not tell how dangerous carbon fiber dust is for health and what mask need to wear if sand that dry with an angle grinder.

@@andreaspoke8273 Hi Andrea and thanks for reacting to my video🤙 I see your point and I've already answered to a similar comment of tetrakite if you read below. Working with carbon comoosites is not the same as working with plain fiberglass. When repairing a carbon composite it's crucial to give to the carbon the same stiffness and resistance to mechanical stress of the original part. This can be achieved pressing the saturated cloth only. That's because the carbon fibers have to be closed to eachother as much as possible with just a little resin in between. If not putting enough material and not clamping it the repaired part (which is paper thin) would result flexible, and weak, would break easily and can cause a sudden failure of the part. More material is essential to make sure that when clamping more carbon fibers will fill the missing part. Got it? Repairing carbon composites in the '' easy way'' is very very dangerous. I' m a professionist and I've been doing this for over 20 years now and I know exactly what l'm talking about. To the eyes of someone who doesn't do this job yes, it can look too much work. It would take a month to you not to me I work pretty fast. About the dust mask you should go back and read the warnings at the beginning of the video as I mentioned it. By the way have you seen the final result? Well if you can achieve that perfection in both function and aesthetics with a faster way let me know👍Thanks again for watching my video and stay tuned for the next videos to come. Stay wet🤙
