This was so much fun! Choose three or more colors and create something! So - here is the link to the little sink strainer I found. As I mentioned, I had a hard time finding it - so hope this link will help.

Thanks for this! This is a great technique, and a good initial insight into what works and what doesn't. One clarification, and a couple of suggestions for spreading the paint better: The thing that makes this work is not exactly that there are lines instead of holes, but where those lines (or holes) are. They have to be a the /edge/ of the flat bottom, so that the paint easily runs out. If you'd found a colander or sink strainer with round holes at exactly the place where the sides turn under to the flat "bottom" (as you have the strainer sitting on the canvas), that would have worked, as well. For encouraging the paint to spread farther toward the edges, there are a couple of things to try. The first only works on a somewhat resilient, "elastic" substrate, such as the stretched canvas you used in this video: Carefully lift the canvas in one hand, holding it firmly, and run a finger of the other hand along the under side, gently pressing upward, until you locate the the point from which you want the paint to spread. Press up more firmly, in that location. Use care. You don't want to stretch the canvas too much, or you can cause a depression into which the paint will puddle, once you release your finger. If this happens, you may be able to save the piece by supporting the center on something that slightly raises the surface. If the spreading point is in the very center of your canvas, you can try balancing it on something like a spray-paint can, or a partly-used roll of paper towels. If you do ever distort a stretched canvas, you can often remedy the problem--after the paint has thoroughly dried--by heavily misting the back of the canvas with water, then drying under a hot hair dryer, to shrink the canvas taut again (more or less, depending on how badly it's distorted). The other way I think of to spread the paint is to use very light centrifugal force, either by suspending the canvas on sling of crossed cords and gently spinning the canvas like a turntable. Or you could use a good-quality, easy-rotating lazy susan to support the canvas, and gently spin that. The lazy susan method has the advantage that the canvas can be secured in place with double-sided tape (such as carpet tape). In addition, with care, the canvas can be secured off-center, locating the spread-point of the paint in the center of the rotation, if your pour is off-center, or if you want to experiment with various manipulations for different effects. Thanks again for this video. Your result is spectacular!

Kathy, I wouldn't have been able to have left it alone either! The color you used around the edges was the one I would have picked also, and if you hadn't stretched the paint, I think it might have cracked as it seemed quite thick. Yeah, I did the search gig too and then I found one at a flea market for a quarter. But, then I started trying other things and the one I really like is a dollar store orange juicer. Made in plastic, So you should give that a whirl. But you are right the thinness of the paint is the key to successes

If you had a flowing base coat, like the teal in the background, on the canvas first it makes it easier to spread the design once you move the colander. Also try push pins in the corners rather than tall cups works so much better. Thanks for the great video. Beautiful pattern!!!

I love that advice too.. "If at first you don't succeed....try, try again." That quote comes from the Scottish hero, Robert the Bruce. When he was holed up in a cave, and hiding from the English he had plenty of time to think. He watched a spider rebuild his web after it had been destroyed many times. Hence the saying....... I love the previous video on card making from a napkin. Keep them coming.👍

Hi, i liked your video very informative and clear sounding. I have found if you want your pour to spread alittle further on a dry canvas add a paint all around the pour touching it. The pour will not curl over itself. I do like the flower effect. Will you let it dry before adding the border color you mentioned.
