I worked ‘em at McClellan AFB in the early 80’s. I’m a retired major air carrier aircraft maintenance technician. I worked a lot of different aircraft in civilian and military domains. The A-10 is a mechanic’s dream and the best aircraft I’ve ever worked. Period.

It needs to prove that it can successfully avoid shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles; which it has virtually never faced before. Everyone who analyzes the A-10 in the modern Ukraine battlefield with such missiles reports that they expect 100% of them to be shot down in 2-4 days. The A-10 was a fantastic aircraft that has served us extremely well for many decades.... but technology has come up with an answer for it. It would not survive or be very usable in a modern battle. The battleships, and many other weapon systems, were retired for many of the same reasons.

From a combat infantryman's perspective, when you hear A- 10 is on location. You know you got some help. You will live to fight another day. It's slower than most jets. This aircraft does what it is designed to do. And no other aircraft can outperform, form an effective job like. The A 10 can. So spend money and make it better.

I was trained and maintained the Comm/Nav, Electronic Warfare, and Weapons Release systems of the A-10. Was a Weapons Loader also. Out of my 32+ years in the Air Force the A-10 was the best plane to work. Our unit was just one of many that were constantly being thanked by Army and Marine personnel for the protection the A-10 provided for them. If retired more ground troops will lose their lives because the F-35 cannot, and has been proven not to, protect ground forces like the A-10. Semper Defendat!

Hi there. The A-10 Warthog is by far the most gangsta aircraft bar none. I was at an air show at Glenview Naval Air station in Glenview Illinois now since closed and got to see this lovely badass plane in all it's glory. It was love at first sight. Just seeing those beautiful engines on the end of the plane made my legs go weak. The gun in the nose is the most impressive piece of artillery in the world. I can't see any reason to stop using this perfect aircraft it's just too good in all it does to not have it in our arsenal. It will always be my favorite plane even though there are other sexier aircraft out there. Fly on my sweet! Stay safe out there. Take care and God bless.

As for the question of what is better, allocating funds to the F-35 or keeping the E-10, in my humble opinion, keeping a relatively cheap aircraft for ground support is better than taking it out of service and assigning the close ground support tasks to an expensive aircraft like the F-35. Keeping both aircraft in service will save financial allocations and will not burden the F-35 with other tasks. This is my opinion.

I love the A-10 because it's very easy to fly and has great fire power! I use this plane in my War Games and have done many missions with it, plus I have seen some of them in real life air shows. So I say keep them around and upgrade them for today's war times! 😮
