A Background knowledge of ( Christianity ) In Plutarch's biography of Romulus, The god and Founder of Rome, we are told he was the son of god, born of a virgin, an attempt is made To kill to kill him as a baby, he was saved, and he was raised by a poor family, he became a lowly shepherd; then as a man he becomes beloved by the people, he was hailed as King, And killed by the conniving elite, The he rises from the dead, appears to a friend to tell the good news to his people, and then he ascends to heaven to rule from on high, Just like Jesus, Plutarch also tells us about annual public ceremonies that were still being performed, which celebrated the day Romulus ascended to heaven, The sacred story told at these event went basically as follows; At the end of his life, amid Rumours he was murdered by a conspiracy of the Senate, ( Just as Jesus was murdered by A conspiracy of the Jews, in fact by the Sanhedrin, The Jewish equivalent of the Roman Senate ), The Sun went dark ( Just as it did when Jesus died ), and Romulus's body vanished ( just as Jesus's did ), The people wanted to search for him but the Senate told them not to, 'For he had risen to join the gods' ( much as the mysterious young man tells the women in Mark's Gospel 16:5--6 ), Most went away happy, hoping for good things from their new god, but some doubted ( Just as all later Gospels say of Jesus see ( Mt.28:17, Lk.24:11, Jn. 20:24--25, even Mk.16:8 implies this ), Soon after, Proculus, a close friend of Romulus, reported that he met Romulus on The road, between Rome and a nearby town and asked him, ' why have you abandoned us ?' To Which Romulus replied that he had been a god all along, but had come down to earth and become Incarnate to establish a great kingdom, and now he had to return to his home in heaven, ( almost as happens to Cleopas in Lk.24:13--32 ), Then Romulus told his friend to tell the Romans that if they are virtuous they will have all worldly power, Plutarch tells us that the annual Roman ceremony of the Romulan ascent involved a recitation of names of those who fled his vanishing in fear, and the acting out of their fear and flight in public, A scene suspiciously paralleling the original ending of Mark's Gospel ( at 16:8 ), Which now make sense of his otherwise strange ending, we can then assume what followed his story is just what followed the Romulus story Mark is emulating, An appearance of the Lord, delivering the gospel, Which is then proclaimed to the people ( the very thing Mark tells us to anticipate in Mk.14:28, and 16:7 ), In fact, Mark emphasises that ' Fear and bereavement ' kept the people silent for a long time, and only later did they proclaim Romulus God, Son of God, king, and Father, in this manner matching Mark's story, They said nothing to anyone, Yet obviously assuming that word got out, it certainly looks as if Mark is fashioning or modelling Jesus into the New Romulus, with a new superior message, to established a new, superior kingdom, To me, This Romulan tale looks a lot like a skeletal template for the passion narrative; a great man, founder of a great kingdom, despite coming from lowly origins and of suspect parentage, is actually an incarnated son of god, but dies as a result of a conspiracy of the ruling council, Then after he dies, A darkness covers the land, and his body vanishes, at which those who followed him flee in fear ( Just like the Gospel women in Mark 16:8, and the men in Mk.14:50--52 ), and like them, too, we look For his body but are told he is not here, he has risen, and even some of his own followers doubted, But Then the risen god appears to some of his selected followers to deliver his gospel, There are many differences in the two stories, But the similarities are too much to be coincidences, and the differences are likely deliberate, not to cause curiosity among those who know Romulus's story, For instance, Romulus's material Roman kingdom favouring the mighty Romans, is transformed into a spiritual kingdom, favouring those who believe and the humble, it certainly looks like the Christian passion narrative is intentional a copy of the Roman Empire's ceremony of their own founding Saviour's incarnation, with the story heavily Judaized, and with many other symbols and and motifs pulled in to transform it, and modifying the story in structure and content, to suit the Christians own moral and spiritual agenda, But the basic structure of Christianity is not original. There were, in fact, numerous pre-Christian pagan saviour gods who became incarnate and under- went sufferings or trials, even deaths and resurrections, None of them actually existed, Neither did Romulus, Yet all were place in history, and often given detailed biographies, Just like Plutarch's Story, We can understand the Christian religion and it's documents, only if we do not ignore such background knowledge as this. The earliest form of Christianity definitely known to real history, originated as a Jewish sect in the region of Syria-Palestine in the early first-century AD/CE, When Christianity began, Judaism was highly sectarian or partisan and diverse, There was no one normative set of Jewish beliefs, but countless different Jewish belief systems vying for popularity, There were at least ten competing sects, possibly more than twenty, and they differed from one another on various political theological, metaphysical, moral and other issues, contrary to common assumption, innovation and syncretism ( merging or amalgamation, even with non-Judaic theologies ), was actually typical of early first- century Judaism, even throughout Israel, At that time Christianity was just another Jewish cult, When Christianity began, many Jews had long been expecting a Messiah/Christ, a divinely chosen leader or saviour to help usher in God's supernatural kingdom, by subjugating or destroying Israel's enemies or the enemies of the Jews, and established an eternal paradise, At that time, The Romans legions were considered to be the visible demons, and the Christian sect of Judaism imagine a messianic victory over the Romans, that could only be perceived spiritually, Palestine at the time, was experiencing an eruption of messianism, There was a clamouring of Jewish sects and individuals announcing that they had found the Messiah/Christ, This is exactly When Christianity arose, it was just another messiah cult in the midst of a fad for just such cults, However, it is important to realise that; Nowhere in the Hebrew Bible ( O.T. ) is There any text stating That God would come to earth incarnated in the bodily form of a human, To the contrary, The Jewish Scriptures refutes any possibility that God can be man; see ( Numbers 23:19, 1st Samuel 15:29, Job 9:32, Job 33:12, Hosea 11:9, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 45:5, & 21, and Isaiah 46:9 ).
