my heart broke a little at "I can't think all of them are lying" it reminds me of when I was a little kid, before I got my mental illnesses diagnosed I was extremely gullible and impressionable even for my age… it's rough accepting disillusionment when you truly just want to see the good in everyone. Some people just… don't have good in them.

@eliseanderson55914 жыл бұрын
@@boogrlovr I have a few diagnoses, but I think the one that really affected me in that respect was autism/aspergers- I had a much harder time determining social cues or the kinds of subtleties and minute expressions of people that would most likely tip off others to a person's lie, so by default I always took everything other people said at face value as the truth, no matter how ludicrous. It's probably not a universal experience even among people with autism considering how differently the disorder manifests from one person to another, but just in my case, learning to mask and imitate the cruelties of my peers was the only means by which I figured out the ways I was manipulated. @@jesseminns Yes, but compared to the availability of information we have now it should be so much easier to debunk or verify information to some extent, and with such little effort. It's literally at our fingertips (Although many things obviously aren't so simple and require study to understand or life experience. Also, some things are more nuanced and are not so black and white.). Of course, with that easy access to mountains of information to sort through, including legitimate accurate info, comes misinformation (intentional or otherwise) and if we don't teach critical thinking apparently many people cannot differentiate between the two. Then of course there are unfortunately those who are willfully stupid or are profiting from taking a position publicly (for example politicians bought by oil/ energy companies denying climate change for example when they know they are full of it and they also know their paychecks depend on them pushing a false narrative as they did after tobacco company lobbyists paid them to try to silence or at least delay the findings that smoking causes cancer and that their product is a carcinogen among many other instances throughout history unfortunately where people put greed over truth and the common good/ public welfare and health). Also every single one of us (myself included obviously) can fall prey to our own confirmation biases or putting emotions before logic and holding onto some belief stubbornly because we associate it with patriotism or tribalism and/ or see it as part of our identity or a billion other reasons that make little sense but appeal to our egos.. unless we are aware of it and work diligently to make an effort to not fall into those traps and logical fallacies which will help us avoid it but we can still once in awhile fail.

So what's actually happening is very simple. There is a small number of grifters, these people are at the top, they make a majority of the content. Under them is an equally small group of followers, these people tend to be mentally ill or lack critical thinking. They assume any failures they have with the process are their own fault. What happens tho is the grifters end up grifting for so long that they delude themselves into thinking they're doing it for real and any inconsistencies in how they live isn't strange. As we see with the lady near the start, she does this for so long that she deludes herself into thinking she eats food because she "desires the taste/experience" rather than the fact she's starving.

I think it's a testimony to how vulnerable these people are because the first few days of starvation/dehydration should be immensely distressing but they are so wanting to believe that they follow the lies that it's all normal. While anorixia can definitely feel normal to sufferers, typically it takes a long time to developed and gives the sufferer a new baseline of normal plus the effects of long-term starvation. One would think that during the first week of the 21 day transition here that the sudden onset of starvation before the delrium as your organs shut down would snap someone out of it. Instead, it becomes an uncomfortable example of just how desperate belief, the power of false promises, and wanting to belong can override self perservation. Grats on getting through what you did. I haven't worked with any anorexics but I have had a couple of patients that were severely underweight/malnurished from other reasons. It's kind of amazing how unaware people in these situations can be to how close to death they are until they finally begin to get better and experience actual health.

I first heard of breatharianism in the early 1970s. I was newly divorced at rhe age of 22. I was working temporarily in a factory, lifting and oacing all day long. I decided to try breatharianism. Ar lunch hour, I sat outside and took in light from the sun. People began offering me foid, and i said tgat i was not hungry. In fact, when you go through a long time of not eating, you actually do stop feeling the hunger. I kept doing this until i weighed 85 pounds. I wanted to travel, but my doctor said he would not sign the health rekease until i started eating and gained weight. I started out by eating one dry piece of tisst oer day. Then after about a week i added an apple each day. My mother notuved and began fixing lunches for me - raw vegetables, fruits, and oeanut butter on celery. Gradually i gained enough weight to please the doctor. Years later, I read about anorexua and realuzed that i had exierienced that. I still have anorexuc episodes now and then. But i am seriously overweight now!!! Please do not make fun of overweight people ir tell them to stop eating!!! That can be enough to bring in anorexia, resulting in serious metabolic disirders that can result in heart disease. Be kind. Allow people the space and the grace to heal. Thank you.

The brain is 2% the weight of an adult body but needs 20% of your daily recommended calories. You don't notice you're dying cos your brain is dying too, shutting down. The metabolism also changes, turning off hunger as the digestive system shuts down. Lack of any protein means the body has to cannibalise anything it can, eating your own organs. Protein is needed to make so many things, like digestive and metabolic enzymes. Anorexics most often die from heart failure (the heart is muscle, canniblised) or fluid filling the lungs due to lack of surfactants. The effects of starvation have been studied very well

I went to a breatharian retreat when I was struggling with my health. It was awful and the man claiming to be the breatharian example straight up ate food in front of us while we starved and became completely dehydrated. He claimed it to be 'training for temptation of food. His name is Ray Moar He just recently released a video stating that he has begun eating again. Due to stress.. which obviously is an admission that he has SCAMMED countless people into the prana retreats. He claims in these retreats if you learn to exist on Prana alone, you will never need food again. These people pray on desperation. Its a god complex illness, an eating disorder. I do it while staying in a supine position so that my body can most easily absorb the earth's energy. I cover myself with a blanket so that the nutrients I absorbed from the sun during the day will be kept from escaping into the atmosphere. I also close my eyes to improve my meditation.

I got sick as hell from reintroduction of water and food and barely survived, i didnt intend to starve i just had went so long without barely any sleep (maybe an hour every three days) from drugs and i had only enough money for drugs so i basically became so strung out and delusuonal that i only recieved nutrition from iv water that i put my drugs in. Pretty solid scientific method even if it sounds stupid that you'd think this would work in the first place.

thats not really a good argument. itd be like saying that humans wouldnt be made of meat if you werent supposed to eat them. cannibal cultures have and do exist, and they seem to atleast be "stable" for the most part, but that doesnt make it justifiable or a good idea. id rather stick to more scientific approaches to the arguments against never eating again, like the mountains of evidence "suggesting" (more like objective fact) that if you dont eat, then at some point soon you will die because of it. this is even less convincing a concept than flat earth theory, and thats also insane. but vast time and distance is not something normally intuitive to humans, so maybe this will always be a problem to some extent...

as far as i know, hardcore buddhists have practiced insane asceticism but they still ate. there were some practitioners who did move on to eat nothing at all, but with the express purpose of DYING. They would eat some like, tree resin (?) i think and slowly wean off food. They wanted to starve themselves to effectively become living mummies. By reducing water-rich body fat, they essentially prepared themselves to be super-dry corpses which is important because moisture amps up decomp. Upon dying, their bodies wouldn’t decompose like a normal corpse and they would be considered “incorrupt”. Their well-preserved bodies are still on display and are called sokushinbutsu (at least in japan) anyways, fun facts aside, connecting this buddhism is cap!!

With the express purpose of dying and mummifying themselves is the key part. Mainstream Buddhism as all about food. It's the main community support to monks. The well known enlightenment of the Buddha occurs after he had fasted and achieved nothing, someone brings him some milk and he realizes that fasting is less profound and healthy than conscious moderation.
