Sure, this looks impressive at first-glance, but consider the circumstances: This was Secretariat's very first career turf race. His very FIRST! It was filled with great older horses who had won hundreds of other races. In fact, Tentam was the world record-holder for a mile-and-1/8, matching the same time that Secretariat ran the Belmont on dirt (still the all-time record). In short, Tentam was one of the best turf horses in history, and Secretariat beat him handily in his first ever race on turf. Secretariat was otherworldly.

It seems to me that Secretariat just teased the other horses - let them get just so close, and then "oh no you don't!" Indeed he was "other worldly". And on that note... I pray God has His majestic animals in Heaven. Could you imagine just one stroll on this magnificent horse?! I'd be honored.

There was many horses before Secretariat that were good but since him none can compare . Sure he lost a few races and still he must have had Pegasus in his blood line .

He seemed to almost toy with a great turf horse, Tentam. Such a great memory, of living during his racing days. Even seeing his final race, in person. Secretariat, simply the greatest, ever!

Great turf horse is an understatement. Tentam held the record for a mile-and-1/8 on turf. And this was Secretariat's first ever race on turf. Secretariat may be the most dominant "athlete" ever in any sport.

Agreed. Turcotte got him to the front and rode pace most of the back stretch and the final turn. Any time Tentam challenged him Trucotte had Secretariat up the pace and Tentam would fall back. Riding Secretariat was like driving a highly tuned sports car. He simply had an extra gear no other horse had when called upon.
