I was 12 years old when Secretariat won the triple crown. I just realized after listening to Lucian Lauren on this video, that even he didn't know just how great Secretariat was in 1973. I am now 62. And Secretariat is still the greatest race horse of all time. Incredible. I really doubt that I will ever see another Secretariat. 👍 Those of us who saw him run witnessed true greatness that others will never be fortunate enough to see in their lifetime. Thank you Big Red, and Thank you God.

What a horse! You know, I actually saw him win the Belmont. I wonder just how many people around the world were also watching that day. A lot, I bet. Thank you for a wonderful evening. :-)

Every time I watch his races I am awed by Secretariat--the effortless, huge stride that made him appear able to fly, the perfection of his looks, the intelligence and personality. We haven't seen his equal since and maybe never will. GO BIG RED!

Everyone knew they had seen greatness, but time was needed before it became apparent that this performance had immortalized Secretariat and raised him to the status of legend. Mitch

There will never be a horse that will win the Triple Crown, and break all three track records. Secretariat was just incredable. The one and the only...

They thought 25 years between Citation and Secretariat was long, but we've been waiting for another once since 1978 !!!

Thank you so much for sharing this! Nothing brings tears to my eyes like a walk down memory lane. I was 11 years old at the time and remember watching this with my mom---she said that Woody guy definitely had a few drinks before they aired...she said it was very noticeable during the Preakness broadcast. lol! Love the horse--it was a great time for horseracing.

cf1970. A million thanks for these incredible videos. They are not only so enjoyable, but so educational for those who truly loved Secretariat and the entire saga of his career. I love all the behind-the-scenes commentary; you don't see that hands on approach anymore, today it's all flash and glamour. Well done and it is appreciated!

Although I was almost 8 years old when Secretariat won the Triple Crown, I don't remember watching any of the races, and only vaguely remember watching Seattle Slew and Affirmed when they raced. This series of videos allowed me to see - in its entirety - what I missed seeing as a child. Thanks for sharing! Although there will almost certainly not be another Secretariat in my lifetime, I keep hoping that I'll at least have a chance to see another horse capture the Triple Crown.

Have to chuckle over Lauren's comment that Secretariat was one of the greatest horses that he'd ever trained... I recall Bill Nack shaking his head in disbelief -- on paper at least -- in his book over that remark.

Thank you for sharing your Secretariat videos. I remember when he won the triple crown. I've been watching your videos as I read Secretariat, The Making of a Champion by Bill Nack. They are a good supplement to the book.

A race horse doesn't get any better than that. When Chic Anderson said that his Belmont Stakes time may be a record that stands forever...he got that right...because it will stand forever and so will Secretariat. I have to say that the paddock at Belmont Park looked strange without his bronze statue in there, but it hadn't been made yet, but you could see where it would later be placed because it looked empty.
