SECRETS Aura Preferred Guest Room, w/access to Dreams Cozumel and Sunscape Sabor Resort & Spa.

We went in December of 22 and loved it,.... for the most part. We also had the upgraded room, we had the pool view and could see the water in the background. The food was alright, we found a litttle taco shack outside the property and that was our lunch goto. The grounds were well kept, we spent our days on the beach and in the water, It was awesome! The only thing I absolutely hated was that they pressured us to do a tour "it's only 90 a minute tour". The tour was okay but at the end they kept bringing in other sales people and managers trying to get us to buy into a timeshare or vacation club sort of thing. They would not let us review the contract prior to purchasing, after 2 hours I fed up, I got up and stormed out.

Ah, yes - the “vacation ownership” tour! We did it once in order to scuba dive for free one year. My wife and I started our phone timers when it started so we could collect our free vouchers at exactly 90 minutes 😁😊

We just got back and I am disappointed we were in building 8 preferred package although the employees are great the food was lacking, the beach was so rocky it deterred us from snorkeling as much as we would have and the building needs updated. In building 8 there is a maintenance that slams doors all day and you can hear a large motor on an hour and off a 2 hours, the food was below par and I got food sick on day five, never going back there I wish we had headed the reviews on the net but we took a chance. There are way better places on the island for the price

What places would you recommend for the money on the island? We've stayed at The Westin Cozumel which was nice, but their all-inclusive option was pricier.

Was it hard to get beach and pool loungers? I know at some resorts people get up at 4&5am to put their stuff out. 😵‍💫

We did get up a little early to get a good spot, and a small group of guests (5 or 6 people) who were not staying in the preferred section tried to take spots in the preferred section of the beach but somehow were caught and asked to move by the staff at one point. The preferred pool area didn't seem to have any issues with this. I like not having to wear a plastic bracelet like some resorts have guests do. I think for the most part it's done on the honor system and most people comply. The regular pool area also has plenty of loungers, and the times we've stayed in that section we've never gotten up early for beach seating. Some of it depends on how busy the resort is as well and can vary from day to day as guests leave & more arrive.

How was the overall experience? I’ve been reading some negative reviews on those hotels. We are looking to book one of them but also saw food might not be great. Just interested on y’all’s thoughts on the hotel experience and food.

We have been staying at this hotel since 2009 when it was under a different name/management. Under Secrets ownership, the resort has grown. This was the fifth time we've stayed at this location. We really love the beach and the close proximity to scuba diving and snorkeling sites. The resort's beach itself is really good for snorkeling when compared to other resort beaches on Cozumel as well as many of the resorts on the mainland Riviera Maya district. The food at Secrets resorts are all pretty similar. Even the restaurant names are similar if not the same. The Secrets resort we stayed at in Dominican Republic had the same food & restaurants. The French restaurant is our favorite with a really good chicken cordon bleu. Keep in mind, some of the restaurants (including the French restaurant) require men to wear pants to eat inside. There is seating outside where men can wear dressy shorts. The best food we've ever had at an all-inclusive resort in the area was at El Dorado Royale by Karisma on the mainland Riviera Maya. We have also stayed at the Westin Cozumel which is really nice, and they also have a great beach for snorkeling and swimming!

Thanks for watching! Secrets Aura is adults-only, 18 years or older. But the connecting properties are both family and kid friendly. Dreams is newer than Sunscape, and a bit higher end. All three properties are connected along the beach. The only thing is, if you stay on the kid/family friendly side you can’t eat at Secrets Aura - but all of the restaurants are good at all 3 resorts. Anyone staying at Secrets can go to all three properties.
