I used to try to figure songs out playing the melody first. But I'd be stuck when it came to figuring out the chords. This helped.

dont forget to be realistic - you will need to do some work whichever system you follow for learning piano I have spent months studying teaching yourself piano and found an awesome resource at Denelle Piano Lesson (check it out on google)

You could probably use this same technique for identifying the first note in a song -- absolute pitch -- as we might identify certain pitches as the first note in certain songs.

Great video, Steve. By the way, I always use "Maria" from West Side Story or "The Simpsons" for a tritone.

Steve, loved this lesson and subscribed. In the beginning of this vid you said the next thing you'd teach would be-how to figure out the bass line. Where can I find that? Thanks, Jessica

Thanks Jessica. The rest of that lesson is inside the member's area at www.learningmusicisfun.com for my paid students. I have some more free goodies over there though, so drop by and check it out. Thanks! "Piano Man" Steve

Hi Steve, i am a subscriber to your website www.learningmusicisfun.com/dashboard, and just wondering where this and, in particular, the next in this series could be found? Thankyou Andrew Denniston, Sydney

Hi Andrew.....this and the other videos in the series can be found in the "Performance Specialties" module. They will be the farthest ones down in that module. Thanks!
