Now 67 living on 10 Rai organic farm in Chanthaburi. Cannot keep up with the maintenance. Looking for 5 Rai downsize seems more balanced. Considering building 10 units for rental to smooth out the income stream .

Farming wherever you are in the world is a very hard job, everything is literally a moment away from failure, be it a crop or a herd affected by weather or disease. I have a lot of respect for toon and leigh doing what they have and plowing on through when it would be easier to just give up, but they have come out of the other side and i hope it continues to go well as it isn't through lack of trying on their part that's for sure! Leigh just needs to pull his finger out when it comes to making more videos, maybe toon can crack the whip so he gets his arse in gear!

Cheers Stewart, yes when Toon & I look back at some of our early photos & videos we realize how far things have progressed. We're both pleased with the transformation, including the recently developed canal & fodder area. Incredibly the largest area at the back of the farm is still yet to develop. Now we don't let the herd out there unless we have an emergency, there's an opportunity to create something amazing. Not sure yet, forest, food forest, date palms, with swales, we just don't know.

Good advice, do something you like. And dont overstretch. For me, a few poultry and a veg garden. Get yourself a pump up air gun, shoot the bloody things, the catfish will love them. Or make some traps. Nice vlog, really enjoyed it, when is the mud fishing season in the ditch?
@TLFarm
@TLFarm Жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, great to hear that. Snakehead time in the canal is usually mid to late rainy season. Round about new year for draining it & getting muddied up to the eyeballs. After the recently finished changes, the deepest part of the canal will naturally begin to refill even towards the end of the dry seasons. Good job because it isn't looking good for Thailand as far as rainfall goes due to El Niño!

Another down to earth and honest video from our favourite blog team. Although we work on a scale that's only a fraction the size of yours, we love what we do and have been inspired by Toon and yourself and have followed your advice in many areas. We've now sorted our algae problems out and our large and small ponds are now teeming with fish once more. I came to Thailand to fish and ride my motorbike. I ended up married, buying land and building a house, digging a pond and planting fruit trees and veggies everywhere. It's hard work at times but doesnt feel like a job. It's our passion. And at the end of the day, I can whip out my rod and do a bit of angling on my own pond! Much of this wouldn't have been possible in the UK.Thailand for me has been where some of my dreams have come true. Can't thank you and Toon enough for showing us the way. 😊

@@TLFarm Thanks for the info, love when you mess around in that ditch, so will look out for it at the end of rainy season. Interesting about your Mulberries, I love them, but maybe plant a bit of an orchard, when should you plant trees, yesterday. I learn a lot from your site, Bio-Char, composting, no chemicals, fish has been the biggest surprise, but you do it very positively. Anyway, great site, many thanks.

Back in the 60s and 70s you could find a farmhand or family rather easily to help on the farms. You'd let them live on your land on the back forty. I guess those days are gone. My wife's family was very poor there in Thailand and that's how they survived.
@TLFarm
@TLFarm Жыл бұрын
That's very true. The only time we've seen that locally here was a guy who's got 300 rai. He used to have 3 fellas from Laos paying them next to nothing. Now he just gets a team in on the farm every now & again for a few days. I think all the monocropping is partly to blame. Prepare, plant, spray then harvest. There's not enough work to get people full-time jobs farming like that unless maybe it's on a large scale.
