We love your National Park tour so much. You guys are doing such a great job with the format and bringing back good memories for us. We visited all 51 Parks back in 2020-2021 during the Pandemic and it was a great foundation for our world travel. Keep up the great content and safe travels, John and Bev

Wow, thanks so much! Sounds like quite the adventure for you two back in 2020-2021. Did you somewhat evenly split the parks over the two years? Maybe we should have thought of that... 😂 -Howard

@@NewstateNomads We did an “interior” loop the first year and then a perimeter loop of the US the 2nd year. Extra miles, but the weather was pretty good most of the time. We like good weather all the time 🤣

The trees form that J shape due to a type of slow mass wasting called Creep. The slopes are slowly moving down hill and the trees are always growing up so they create that J shape trying to always grow up.
@NewstateNomads11 ай бұрын
OK! Much more scientific explanation and a slower process than we thought! It makes sense as you mentioned since the trees always want to grow "up" and the hill is slowly sliding down. We've never seen so many trees like that, though! Thanks for the explanation, Jessica. 👍 -Howard

The impact from the fire was dramatic, and we didn't even get to some other sections (which apparently have extreme damage that is being restored). Sad to see. - Howard

Hi you two! Lassen…it is a BEAUTIFUL National Park. We visited many, many years ago, but now for us, it is a great choice to visit…the cost of fuel is so prohibitive, but the park is here in California where we live. Makes sense to visit close to home! Your terrific videography and narration, plus your lovely weather, made for a memorable visit. REGARDING THE TREES: My family was told many, many years ago, is that when trees sprout from seed on a hillside OR a tree is knocked-over but not killed, it will bend and continue to grow upward. Why?…trees reach for the sunlight above, especially evident in densely forested areas, where all the trees are “fighting” for the most light from the sun. Thank you again always getting me excited to hit the road again in our Lucy! (Just wish the diesel wasn’t so dang expensive!). Love to you Both, Virginia 🩷
@NewstateNomads11 ай бұрын
Thanks, Virginia! Lucy would feel right at home in this park. Another person commented about the hillside slowly sliding which in turn causes the tree to curve more and more back up towards the sky. Between all the reasons, it still amazes me that a plant can continue to adjust like that! As always, thanks for watching and glad you're along for the journey. 👍 -Howard

By the way the Mountain Hemlocks are bent like that by the heavy/deep snows at Lassen that bend over the young trees and they grow up toward the Sun. I remember the Rainbow trout in Emerald Lake. I have only heard about the Cascade frog in recent years. They have been gone since the 70s. At one time I heard the trout were gone because the lake froze solid one winter killing them. I also heard they were poisoned by the Park Service with Rotenone because they generally were unnatural, but they were a major traffic hazard with people stopping along the road there to see the giant trout. Who knows what the next explanation will be?
@scottalexander393511 ай бұрын
I've read that avalanches can cause the bent trees.
@NewstateNomads11 ай бұрын
Thanks, Scott, that's a new one for us but makes a lot of sense! We have seen the "flagpole" trees at other places where wind blowing in a singular direction causes the trees to only grow branches on one side. Nature is incredible. 👍 -Howard

@@NewstateNomads thanks I started watching some older videos and saw that! How was the quality of the build, many hiccups? Much down time? These last few years it seems quality across the board has been way down so I’m hesitant to pull the trigger just yet!
@NewstateNomads11 ай бұрын
@bshaut definitely understand, and I don't think any RV is absolutely perfect. All major systems worked, no serious issues. There were minor cosmetics, but nothing that would require any down time. I always remember that you are buying a vehicle with a house built on top that experiences an earthquake every time you drive it. Help me to keep a frame of mind when issues DO pop up. 🤣 -Howard
