Being born in '85 I inherited all my MOTU figures from friends/older cousins as they aged out of action figures, so the NA characters hold a special place in my heart as the first He-Man figures I could actually go to a toy store and buy new. I loved Optikk, it was a great first choice to dip into the New Adventures characters. Since I didn't collect any New Adventures figures these really were "new" to me. I never understood the complaints about the Trap Jaw leg re-use. I never had any issues with that. To be honest, I loved the Trap Jaw legs, even on the vintage figure. I loved that vintage Man-E-Faces and Roboto also shared the same legs.

Optikk is a great figure that blends in well with the other MOTUC characters. I don't understand the "blinking" method of communication since he doesn't have any eyelids but it is a funny thought. I just assumed he communicated with sign language or that he spoke from his computerized armor like a droid.

I only got around to buying 3 classic figures before financial changes put the brakes on those types of purchases. After Skeletor and Trap Jaw, I had my eyes on a bunch of the classic baddies, as well as that killer Eternian guard set, but ultimately Optikk "caught my eye" (bu-dump-psh) and even though I was totally unfamiliar with him, I thought he was just such a fantastic 'archtype' in a line of characters that are so wonderfully archtypical, I just had to have him next, irrespective of said unfamiliarity. The gold, The eyeball thing (so 80s. Remember mad-balls?) such a fantastic work of art. To me, he just blends in perfectly as an early-series character.

Great video! Thank you! Optikk was one of only three NA figures I had, back in the day (the other two were He-Man and Slushhead from a 2-Pack). Mine had the green iris; I didn't know there was an orange version until I got the MOTUC figure. It was a nice surprise to see Nick "Phraggle" Bondra's rendering of Optikk at the 06:53 Mark. He does some amazing artwork of Star Wars and MOTU characters. Definitely worth looking up if you haven't seen them before. The MOTU ones are quite a way down his gallery, though; he hasn't done any in a while.

One of the sad parts of losing MattyCollector was the lost hope of getting any more NA figures or even an update on the NA power sword or Skeletor staff. @wayneepoo4 жыл бұрын
Scott has explained this before. That year Mattel had some kind of thing going on with Stan Lee, and they had a budget to make some kind of toy celebrating Stan, and Scott decided to make a Classics figure of him. Some fans thought this took away a slot from a Classics character, but he's said this was a completely separate budget and it would have gone to making some other Stan Lee toy thing if he hadn't been made into a Classics figure.
@Rocket13774 жыл бұрын
MOTU comics haven't always been created by DC. Several other publishers have held the licence over the years, including Marvel, under the STAR comics branding. So technically, as a former Marvel editor-in-chief, Stan Lee does have a very tenuous connection to MOTU.
