I hate being the "WELL I THINK" guy, but what I did was I got an LED lamp, now, right off the bat, this thing looks like a solar flare, you might want a dimmer one, you may not, if it's too bright, there is a fix. With a rubber band and small sheet of paper, you can dim it down studio style. Hope this helps! I only just noticed your comment was in past tense, but, oh well.

@@lonecolamarine Yeah I think Ill buy those clip on LED lamps from ikea. The ones that have a bendable "leg". Seems like a great thing for painting minis. Its either that or buy strap LED's and glue them to an U shaped frame that can be put on the table, so I get 3 sources of lighting.

I find it easier to paint the eyes first when there is only the basecoat applied , since i'm more likely to mess up painting the eye later and making a splotch of black or white on the skin , rather than messing up the skin and painting up the eye with skin tones . Just my personal preference :) Gotta be careful with the wash if you use it , that's all . Also , the Derpy Space Marine with the atrocious paintjob has " a name " , it's usually called " Clarence " XD

The most common mistake when painting female faces - is allowing sharp dark shadows and lines in it. Especially around the nose and in the recess of the cheeks, people tend to make deep dark shadows because they think they need them to make the features pop. However while this makes male faces look more angular and brutal, the same applied to female ones, and this is NOT what our monkey brain associates with female beauty. It can even make the face look old. Remember to be EXTREMELY accurate with any shadows on a female face. It needs to be soft and round, fith features really smooth. You would do well to use the lightest of glazes to shade the cheeks, or even go the other way around and instead add some pink blush on the cheekbones to accentuate that detail without shading the cheek recesses. The same goes for the nose. Instead of brown shadows like on a male face, you should make them much lighter or even pinkish. That's my best recommendation

Warnings on the box mostly refer to stuff like looking at bright sources of light, or possibility of fire if bright light goes through one of the lenses. Your technique is great but it just highlights why painting the whites of the eyes and the pupils isn't something that should be bothered with at this scale. If you saw a person at the same distance you see the miniature at, you'd never see the whites of their eyes, their eye-socket would just be a dark area on the face. When eyes on miniatures of this scale are painted it looks unnatural because I suppose the brain recognizes that a human doesn't look like that from a distance. Keeping with the steps you did, but forgetting the eyes and just adding a couple of targeted washes into the eye sockets and you have a truly grimdark look to your faces.
@Zumikito4 жыл бұрын
sure, that is an option for you, why not - ater all painting 1055 marines with pupils and everything would be bothersome. If you are aiming for more detail, I would still push it to that level however. That is what I like :)
