Nice way to add the presence of the room, I often add a very short delay followed by pre-delayed room reverb to add the 3D presence to the sound.

One of the drawbacks to the original DX7 is that it is monophonic. So, creating a stereo image using a second mic to capture room ambiance is a clever solution.

why aren't we informed about the final result of this recording? I would like to know what is total outcome of all your recording efforts, since I personally owned V50, DX21 and SY77 and used them for studio recordings. I am aware of advantages of PCM drum set of V50, even with its internal DSP it could be adjusted to sound great, and if combined with different sound source such as Kawai K4 or Roland E16, that could improve the soundscape unbelievably. Different tone generators always create fuller production picture, so to say, because of placing harmonics into different areas of total sound spectrum. FM synthesizers of early generation produced significant amounts of digital noise, so it could multiply easily when choosing specific sounds on your tracks if we are not aware of it. V50 had rather big capacity of avoiding this, although it is just four operator FM synth, owing to dual mode ability that helps a lot in creating full, fatty, slightly detuned sounds, grateful for brassy or pad lines of your arrangement.
